Wirey Coats Does Anyone Wth A Wirey Coat Yorkie Have Pictures Of Them As A Pup? Sophie Doesnt Seem To Be Growing Much Hair On Her Belly But She Is Growing It On Her Head And Legs. We Saw Another Yorkie At The Pet Store While We Were Shopping For A Little Sweater And It Looked Nothing Like Ours. It Was A Cute Little Fur Ball. Our Is A Little Cutie Minus The Fur. |

Well I just talked to the breeder and asked why her body hair (Sophie's) is not growing. She said that blue/gold yorkies always have bad coats. Has anyone ever heard this before? This is the first I've heard of this. Does this mean she will never grow hair? She also told me to give the puppy seameal? Thant helps the coat she said. |
She was born with a blue and gold coat? yes, that's bad. From what I know, it is some type of genetic defect. There's not much you can do about it, maybe the seameal will help. I'm just wondering.. Why would a breeder sell a defective pup, without making sure the buyer knew exactly what they were getting? Doesnt sound very reputable to me. |
Hict The breeder was out of East Hartford, CT and she never mentioned there being a problem with the coat until i emailed her about Sophie. She said she has been using solid gold seameal on the remaining male and he has a beautiful coat. So we will try it. Do you have a blue and gold as well and if so can you send some pictures. I hope the health of the puppy will not be affected by the coat. This was a purchase my 10 year old made with her own money and has cared for the puppy(with our help) I never heard that about blue/gold yorkies before. |

blue and gold are standard colors for a yorkie lol. doesnt mean they have bad coats. You wont know what color they truely are too much older. Blue born yorkies are totally different they are born and look blue and that is a mutation like chocolate and blonde. I heard they do not grow hair that well and their skin is very painful to them. I think im in the right direction but may be a little wrong. so your babies hair has never been cut? she was born like this? hopefully someone will let us know |
would you happen to know if your puppy was born blue? |
me and nat did some looking up and there is a pup at the very bottom of this page and it has little hair like yours. she is saying its rare but im sure something is causing it. http://bjpuppies.com/puppyhaven.htm |
http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ight=blue+born look at this thread and read yorkierose's posts. Looks like her dog had a pup like this and she says they are blue born and sometimes the saddle (back of the yorkie) doesnt grown |
My yorkies hair is just like that also. She is a year and 3 months and still no hair. How old is sophie? What is solid gold seameal? |

im going to find yorkierose for this thread. |
I think the breeder is wrong telling you that all blue and gold yorkies have bad hair. How long have you had this puppy and how old is she? She almost looks like she is shaved down on her body. Did you see her parents? Could just be a case of poor breeding and poor genetics. Look at the dogs in the show ring. They are blue and gold and have beautiful coats. |
Sophie Is 4 Months. Do You Have Any Pictures You Could Share? More Impotantly Is Your Little Pup Healthy? |
yeah im pretty sure the pups are blue born after researching it and from yorkierose's info. she says that the parts on yorkies that are tan like the head and feet the hair grows but usually the saddle part (which is blue for them) falls out or never grows. the breeder either doesnt know they are blue born or just failed to tell you this to make money off of the pups. Most of the time blue borns are sold for less. |
Black and Tan yorkies I have a black and gold named Maggie. Her hair was thin when she was yonger but has thickened up now as an adult. I breed yorkies, all the puppies I have ever had have been black and gold and later turn into their true colors. Some of them are black and gold now and some of them are blue and I have had a few turn blonde. I have not noticed a differnece in the coat vs. color. I'm new on this and if I can figure it out I'll send some pics of Maggie as a pup and now. Her coat is wirey but is full. Your little girl is sooooo cute though! I think she has a very sweet face! |

Blue Born yorkies are different. they come out a different color when born like a blue grey color. while most yorkie babies are back and gold when born. blue borns have very little hair while the head and leg hair might grow out the back of the yorkie(saddle (like a horse) doesnt grow!! I guess its hard to explain! |

I know a lady who has a yorkie that looks like yours. She is like 2 yrs old and has really really short hair, it like doesn't grow! I think she was born blue. My London had really short hair when she was little, like i thought it would never grow and it felt wirey but now it is very long but still feels diff. than my other 2 yorkies. Her head hair is really silky tho, and she was born chocolate.. idk if that has something to do with it |
I think your dog is a normal colored yorkie but I think you need to take her to the vet. I think she might have a skin condition that needs to be treated. Good luck. |
I just was a post on yorkies with a rare disease where the hair doesnt grow. they are born bald. The dogs hair in the picture looks alot like yours. It was posted today. |

Oh my gosh sue!! I have the exact kind og dog you do and I have been worried sick about her. She is 5 months. I will post some pictures for you to see her. I was very uneducated when I bought my dog. Don't get me worng she is seriously one of the best dogs I have ever had BUT...she has hardly any hair. They have done every test possible to see if something was wrong with her and everything came out normal. I really really really wish her hair would grow. |
2 Attachment(s) Here are the pictures. Have you heard or know of anything to help there hair to grow? or does anyone know? |
There's not much you can do to make their hair grow. It's just genetically that way. Being wirey makes it break off fast so it never will get long, plus their hair grows very slowly. My yorkie, Lacy, has a coarser silky coat. I wouldn't say she's wirey at all but her coat is coarser than it should be. Her hair grows very slow but it is growing... I have been giving her Fish oil/vit. E which seems to help somewhat and she's on a raw diet which has helped as well. Those combined have made her hair a little silker and definitely shinier. |
If the pup were born blue, usually its fatal early on and if they do live, its usually very painful and they still only have a short life. So, hopefully that isnt the case with your puppy. I would definately have her skin checked out by a vet as well as a blood panel. Hormone levels could also be off. Good luck |
