Yorkies don't turn blue until they are older...so a puppy that is blue has a genetic defect |
puppy As you have already concluded, your Yorkie is what breeders call..Born Blue...the saddle will never grow out. It is a genetic imperfection and the breeder should never breed the parents together again... Not all of these Yorkies grow up to have health or skin problems..but they are more prone genetically to do so..that is why a reputable breeder does not repeat breedings that produce even one of these, let alone breed for this exact type puppy. |
Brittneyshea Your Puppy Is Adorable. Here Is The Deal. The Breeder Told Me The Puppy Was A Blue/tan Puppy. When We Went To See Sophie She Was Almost 5 Weeks And Looked Like Most Of The Yorkies We Had Seen At That Age. Sophie Has Been Seen By The Vet Twice So Far And The Vet Has Not Said Anything About Her Coat At All. She Eats Well And Is Very Playful. She Is On The Tiny Side (1 1/2 Lb)and Could Not Get All The Shots In The Same Visit So We Have To Go Back Again Next Week. The Hair On Her Saddle Is Starting To Grow But Not Like A Lot Of The Picture I've Seen On This Site. She Almost Looks More Of A Chocolate Color At Times. I Will Put All The Pictures Of Her As A Baby. She Does Not Seem To Be In Any Pain! I Emailed The Breeder Last Night And She Claims This Is Normal. Would You Know By Looking At Them If They Were Blue Oe Blue/tan? |
I would try melatonin 1/4 tablet 2 times a day once in the am and once in the evening. You can buy this at the health food store. We had a blue pup and used this and his coat does not look like yours,it is fuller and longer. A well known breeder on here suggested the melatonin. |
Melatonin, that is usually used to regulate your internal clock, day/night=awake/sleep. I looked it up to see it's other uses and It looks like they are testing it to renew skin cells damaged by sun exposure and other burns. Very interesting. |

The breeder told you she was a blue/gold is that what your papers say?? if so that is what the breeder merely marked as she might have thought she would mature to a blue/gold. |
pup A red legs can grow a better coat then a BB don't you think? Suej's Yorkie looks like the growth pattern of a BB,especially in the pic looking down at her back. Is this Yorkie clipped at all...? As to pigment, I have only seen BB with black pigment, but realize others can be different... BrittanyShea..since your vet has tested her for all skin problems and she has none, I think it is the same..BB..but with lighter pigment. These are all in the eye of the breeder as to what is what, but I would not repeat any of the breedings that produced these Yorkies...nothing personal..I am sure they are lovely pets..but can have many problems..just a gamble. |
Sophie Has Never Had A Hair Cut Yet(if Thats What Clipped Means) She Has Wirey Like Hair Coming In Down Her Sides. Haven You Heard Of The Solid Gold Seameal Before And Would You Recommend Trying It. Thanks! I Was Trying To Post The Pictures Of Her When She Was Born And At 5 Weeks But They Wont Go Threw. |

I think there are many good suppliments and given correctly will not harm your pet..but it will not do much in the coat growing department either with this genetic occurance. |
Hannah Looking at Hannah again..I think the second poster..Brittney's is red legs..but suej's still has so much less coat then Hannah on her saddle..totally a guess on my part. |
3 Attachment(s) I want to thank everybody for all there advise. I hope she is not a blue born because the way it sounds they can end up sick or die young. She really looks black and brown to me but I am not an expert. Her is a close up of her coat. It looks like its kinda of growing a little or maybe wishfull thinking:) |
I am so confused! I did a search to find out about my Tobey's thin hair and came upon this thread. He is in my avatar, but it's pretty little. We didn't know what we were doing when we got him from a lady when he was just 7wks. he was very black and tan though and his coat was very think as a tiny pup. his coat has always been very soft, not wirery. but it is very thin on his legs and belly. his skin just looks kinda dry, not rough. He's almost 11 months old now. his belly fur stopped growing about 2 months ago. i also just found a bald spot on his back outer thigh area. the hair on his face and back and tail (he has a full tail) seems to grow just fine. the hair on his back is black at the ends and is growing out dark gray now. he is on good food. Artemis kibble. i give him a bath every week or two otherwise he gets stinky, but i don't know how to help his dry skin. |
