Cesar Millan So, I was wondering what you ladies (some gents) think of Cesar Millan and his teachings and if any of you have seen him live? Hubby and I have tickets to go see him this Sunday and we are excited because we will get to meet him, plus he makes a lot of sense. I can't wait to learn about Louis' psychology, hopefully I can learn to understand his quirks. I can't wait to get started to read his new book :0D |
Oh.. Lucky you.. I love him. Have a good time. |
Although I've never seen Cesar live. I love him and I love his show! He sure has a way with our furry friends :) How lucky you are to meet him in person. Enjoy! |
What stations is he on? I have never heard of him, it sure does sound like fun though!:D |
That will be fun!! I LOVE Cesar Milan!! I watch his DVD's over and over learn something new each time..plus he is HOT!! Dawn |
Honestly, I think he seems a little intense/rough with the dogs. Also I think people might generalize his ideas as being acceptable for all dogs (all sizes, all personalities). I don't know if that is the smartest to preach. |

How exciting! :D I love Cesar. I love how he get's through to dogs. Plus he has all those rescue dogs at home. :animal-pa What a guy. Have a great time...I'm jealous ! :p |
I suppose a few things he teaches are correct and work for a lot of dogs. I agree that dogs need exercise, discipline and then affection but really now, if I haven't taken my dog on an hour walk in the morning (like he says to do) I still expect her to listen. He also seems a bit rough at times. I wonder what happens behind the scenes when there is no taping going on. Noone knows for sure and you don't usually correct a bad behavior in a ten minute television segment. I have tried a few of his methods and they do not work. I didn't know he supports AB1634. I definately won't watch him now. |
Ok..I am Canadian so I dont know about your bills and such but after googling it http://www.cahealthypets.com/home.htm I dont see what the problem is with this bill? It to me would stop alot of puppy mills and byb would it not?? Show dogs and registered dogs arent affected? I guess Im missing something?? Please fill me in..cause as much as I have read I would tend to agree with this too.. Thanks, Dawn |

Interesting...I read it the same way you do...are we missing something? |
Ok..it says on the site..legitimate breeders will not be affected..would that not mean you would have to show proof that you are affilated with a kennel club?? Im confuzled lol...wouldnt it stop ALOT of people who breed their own pets or have "accidents" most puppies I see for sale in newspaper ads in my local community far outweigh the amount of pet store puppies in my community. I would like to see regular joes have to spay/neuter at LEAST..I guess I am totally missing something and this is waaaaaaaaaaaay off topic and im sorry.. Dawn Edited: Not to mention the amount of kittens that are born yearly...and probably 90% of those come from byb and not kitten mills..at least I would think.. |

I do like him though I havn't seen too much of him. I don't think I have ever seen him work with smaller dogs only big ones. I think he has a wonderful way with them though. I really like the lady on it me or the dog the best. I have tried many of her ways and they all seem to work if done the way she says. The thing I most like about Cesar is that he can tame a visious dog when others would just not bother. |
I am a huge fan of Cesar Millan and wish I had heard about him when we had our last dog. I hope to use his methods and to practice "calm assertive energy" with our new Yorkie. I highly recommend reading his book. It will help dispel some of the myths about him as well as educate you on how to be a good pack leader. |

But, if you are truely interested, do some checking...see what HSUS about....The bill is more that what is written.....you really have to read it with a find tooth comb............and do some research.... |
I understand what he does and whatnot but most of the things he says or does is common sense.. He just opens the owners eyes to what to do and what is happening.... "You have to dominate him, don't let him dominate you..." But I think alot of people don't know that that is common sense and eats up what he says because they are ignorant in what is really going on... Just my opinion... |
The Dog Whisperer is great!I do not think he is being rough with the dogs or mean.He is very calm and assertive. My friend has a lab that always had a problem with jumping on people and with a little of assertive energy we were able to stop him from jumping on everyone.I need to read his book.Dogs are tough animals people!!! |

ETA- Louislove, I didn't mean to come across too strong. I hope you enjoy the show and I'm sure you will learn a lot that you can adapt for your own needs. Be sure to tell us about it! |

Sorry if this offends anyone, but it is my true feelings. Other than that I feel he does pretty good. Just a little rough sometimes that is all. |

Like most experts, within their expertise, they have specific areas in which they excel. Cesar does probably do the best work with larger dogs. In fact, I sometimes get a kick of watching him work with Yorkies, because I think they even befuddle the Dog Whisperer at times. Yes, a lot of it is common sense (his calm assertive direction is how I successfully raised my kids!!), but there is often a void of common sense as well as the need to be reminded sometimes. My husband had a devil of a time walking Coby. I had him watch one episode of leash walking and he tried it the next day. Nothing different in the way the leash was used at all. It was my husband's empowered (and yet kind) attitude. My husband (a skeptic in most areas) was an instant believer. And I agree that his book gives you a bit more insight into the man. I will have to research the bill that's being addressed, as I'm sad to say, I am not well-educated on it. |
