Eye color question..... In a few threads I've read where the eye color you see in your Yorkie's pictures tells what kind of coat it will/should have. Can someone explain what the colors mean? I've taken several pictures of Jo but I haven't noticed any color in his eyes yet and he's 7 months old. Does their age have anything to do with it? Or...have I totally misunderstood the whole thing? |
You probably have a good camera that corrects that stuff. Red eyes are supposed to be cottony Green eyes are supposed to be silky Blue eyes are puppy's eyes. Stewie's eyes come out green every time and he has a silky coat. |
I've never heard that before. Angel's eyes come out green sometimes, but prince's are always yellowish brown. Weird. |
2 Attachment(s) Thanks...so far Jo's eyes look black or very dark blue in all of his pictures. Does this change as they get older? Do you use the flash on your camera? I never use the flash on mine. The second picture is at 4 months (check out those eyebrows!) and the first one is from a couple days ago, he'll be 7 months next week. |
I use a flash sometimes. You can also see it if you shine a flashlight toward your dog in a dark room. |
The eye color we mean is not the color you see when you look at your dog; like humans have brown or blue eyes and you see that when you look at their faces. The flash that you see when the dog is in a low-light situation and a light is shined in their eyes and you can see the back of the eye-I call it eye flash. That is the color we are discussing. Usually cannot judge til the puppy is older but it is true and NOT a wives' tale..I know! It cost me a bundle to find out what I should have asked my mentor! I took 3 dogs and their pics to the vet and demanded eye exams cause their flashes were different in each dog. They got a clean bill of health, I got a cleaned-out wallet and my mentor got a chance to educate me even further.. |
1 Attachment(s) I too have been wondering this...any ideas from this pic? (on coat..because as a puppy it is kind of cottony in certain areas and silkier in others) |
Thanks whispersmom2...I'll take some using the flash and see how his eyes look. I knew it wasn't the outward eye color but the one only seen in different light but I didn't know if I needed the camera flash to see it. What if they glow amber? I've seen a couple on YT that do that. |
Wow! Is that true? TJ's eyes ALWAYS come out green, and he has the silkiest coat I have ever felt. That is amazing! |
Magic always has green eyes and her coat is starting to get that silky look, where Sailor always has green eyes but we have yet to see her silky coat yet!!! Maybe she just isn't old enough yet... |
It is not valid when puppies are very young. Most, including me, do not use the color for judging the coat til the puppy is past 6 months. That is one of the reasons show owners keep their sow potetial til past that age. Puppy coats usually are softer that the adult coat if the adult is silk. Cottony, or wooly, is about the same in puppies in adults, in my experience.. |
Bert is 10 weeks and he has blue eyes, but I guess he's too young to tell now. |
3 Attachment(s) Roxy's eyes always reflect green in pictures, and I'm pretty sure she is not a silky coat, so I really don't know how much truth there is to that. |
Pebbles eyes come out red! I guess she is cottony even though I think she is more silky. I have no idea! |
If these pics are Roxie, her eye flash in these pics is gold (or a warm color) Silky coated adults have a cool color eye flash-blue, green, turq... I was showing my dogs' pics to the woman I mentor today, and I used their pics to demonstrate what fact.. |
