I have to say this...VETS are not always the best source of info about breeding type questions. They deal with illness and do a darn good job, but honestly, I think some of their answers in the areas that are not health issues leave a bit to be desired. My vet will tell you-you want to know something about YOUR dog, ask the breeder or mentor or another responsible person... |
Bert is 10 weeks and he don't even weigh a pound. |
To me, that is scary small. He can be so prone to hypoglycemia. Of course, when the mom is home all day and the baby is an only child, the symptoms can be detected and treated very early...and complications prevented.. |

Hi! My little guy weighed 1.6 at 9wks, 2.0 @ 12wks, 2.6 @ 15 wks and 2.8 @ 18wks. Does anyone have a guess how much he will weigh? The vet told me when I took him in @ 9wks. that I could expect him to weigh approx. 6-7lbs. |
Well, my guess would be about 5lbs to 5.5lbs. I heard double their weight @ 16 and it worked for me. |
Yes, he will probably be on the bigger side. But who cares...your baby is so healthy! Stomper was 3.3 pounds at 8 weeks. He is 11 pounds at 7 months old! The breeder said he would be between 7-8 pounds. Boy...they were wrong. You know what...I LOVE MY BIG BOY AND WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING ABOUT HIM!!!! More to love, right?! Enjoy your baby. :) |
Starsky weighed 2.5 lbs when we got him at 8 weeks, he is now almost 5 months and he weighs 6.6 lbs!! He really has started to slow down in growth now. He was gaining a 1lb a month. I am thinking he may get to 8 lbs tops. Dad was only 4 lbs and Mom was only 6 lbs, so he has passed them up. I got bigger than my parents too. Maybe it's the same with dogs. Everybody has a photographic memory..... some of us just don't have film |
Funny how we obsess about their size (sound familiar?) When I got Lida I really needed a pup that wouldn't get much over 5 pounds because I have lifting restrictions because of my health. Funny thing is, I didn't even ask about parents size or anything because I was so thrilled to be getting her and had decided that I would figure something out, of course I was told she shouldn't get any bigger than 6 pounds and that's close enough. Now, at 10 weeks, my little girls weighs 17 ounces and she's a bit chubby, but the vet said that was good and to let her be a little chubby because she's so small. I am with her 24/7 and my vet is less than 3 miles away, but she is really healthy, she got a gold star because she was so good and so healthy. The vet said I was doing a great job with her and keep it up. I have no idea at what her final weight will be, but now I find I don't really care, I love her, love her, love her! Ramsey is 4 lbs at 15 weeks. |
