I used to tip $5.00 on a $40.00 bill. The groomer was the owner.
Now I groom myself and it's all MINE!:D

When tipping, I think you have to keep in mind where you live. I live in the Bay Area where everything is very expensive. So, I would plan on tipping on the high side.

:thumbup: We have lived in a few different states, I always adjust my tipping (for anything) based on the cost of living in the area.

Grooming is a service just like a Hair stylist . Yes If you are happy with your service you show your gratitude with a tip.

I am a stylist and my pay does not include a tip. if it did it would have to be posted. AMF my tips are what put food in my families mouth.

No matter if it is a small shop or a Petsmart if I was happy I would show it with a good tip. :)

I guess i'm cheap too. i tip $5.00... but i'm living on a tight budget with a new baby, formula and diapers are very expensive.... oh well

I know a groomer who has retired and turned over the business to his son. When I started fostering Yorkies, & Bichons I had ask him about prices and tips. He said prices for grooming depends on what all you want done, and tips are usually 15 to 20% depending on the time it takes to groom. I use to have him cut nails only, but now I just do that myself, along with the grooming. He charged $5.00 for nail cut and file.

I don't really think it matters that you tip $5 or even $20 what matters is that if you like your service you show your graditude. I have had people tell me that they are really sorry but they are in hard times and will make it up to me at the next visit.. and I tell them not to worry as long as you are happy :)

Wish I got tipped for grooming all 9 of my dogs LOL....maybe I could get hubby to start tipping my way lol

lol....Yeah I am not so cheap after all...IFI did my math right, I just figured on the calculator 20% for $20 came up to $4..And I paid her $5 pet dog...So I did good...lol :D

WELL I'M GLAD I POSTED THIS AS IT HAS GIVEN ME A CLEAR PERSPECTIVE AS TO WHAT I SHOULD DO ABOUT TIPPING. TOMORROW MAX WILL BE GROOMED AND THE LADY WILL GET A TIP. I HAD ONE MORE QUESTION WHAT SHOULD I DO IF THE LADY THAT GROOMED HIM IS NOT THERE(OUT TO LUNCH OR SOMETHING). DO I GIVE THE TIP TO SOMEONE ELSE :confused: I AM ASKING THIS B/C LAST TIME THE GIRL THAT GROOMED HIM WAS NOT A THE SHOP WHEN I PICKED HIM UP. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT I SHOULD DO IN THAT CASE. :confused:

We tip 20% because she does such a good job. I would think a tip would be a standard just as you tip when you go the hairdresser for yourself. Just my opinion though.

My groomer has a locked box for each individual groomer to put their tips in behind the cashier, so I don't have that to worry about that issue. They also have envelopes to put the tip in and to write who its from. I usually tip 15-20% for a full grooming service, and $1 for my $5 nail trim. It's just like any other service be it a waiter or hair stylist, you tip more if you are really happy with it. Oh, and if you really like one particular groomer, stick with that one. Your dog will be more familiar, and so will they with how you want your grooming.

I would ask her to give her the tip. Or some nice salons will give you a small envelope to put your tip in and they give the tips to the stylists later. Perhaps you can ask for an envelope to put the money in and address it to her. That's what I would do.
