You're so right. And if one does their homework, they will find that pups from a show/breeder are considerably less. I like you screen my new families and have a waiting list since I only breed 1 or 2 litters a year. I do abhor it when the first thing I hear out of an inquiring person "How much are your dogs". My first responsibility is my dogs, 2nd is to educate potential new families. I too tell them to be selective with their breeder, yes breeder. And as you said before you aren't only obtaining a new pup you are obtaining a relationship with your breeder. The deal isn't finished when they walk out the door with their new pup, as a reputable breeder you are available to them 7x24. I offer free grooming for the pups for the rest of their lives....good way for me to keep on eye on them. |
Sorry I'm so cranky this morning, but that post really got on my nerves seeing that I'm hand rearing a 2 oz. puppy and feeding every hour during the day and every 2 hours at night. So yeah I'm a little cranky on this isssue. |
I believe for a planned c-section and not a emergency.. Also they are a small clinic .. I'm sure If I went to another one it would be greater.. It also helps that my aunt know him:D |

I feel sorry for anyone who gets upset when someone desires to pay what they can afford for a Yorkie. How can you get offended by someone asking for what they think is a fair price? For a pet quality dog from a show breeder who was champion sired i payed 300$. For a show quality dog from that same litter it would have cost me anywhere from 3000$ and up. Look at the difference in cost. This is what bugs me about this issue. If we are talking about a pet why charge so much? there is no equality and fairness in charging someone the same price for a pet and as a show dog. Yet somehow this system is creating a breed of healthy dogs that the poor cannot afford unless the forgo a house payment or two. Then people want to be hipocritical and sometimes say if you cant afford one dont buy one. Then when poor people or working class people end up buying from a pet store after their prices drop and the dog has been sitting there for months, you also want to gripe. If I ever breed I will make sure i tell people why i charge what i charge for the pup. when it comes to a life i think they have a right to know and it will also give them peace of mind when paying whatever price. I also wont turn down a poor family or working class family that can offer the same love and support because they don't have 2000.00 to throw away, but in all other circumstances could afford food and basic care for the pup. I mean 2000$ is like 1520lbs of dog food to me |
To each his own... I too paid over $1000 for Meka and I would do it again. If you want something, regardless of price - its your right to splurge. I mean, celebrities/people who can afford it will pay anywhere from $5k for a pair of socks to $10k for a Hermes tie... which seems crazy... Or what about the new Louis Vioutton - a purse, just a purse for over $40k... Its America honey, times have changed and $$$ makes the world go round... |

JUST MY OPINION!!!! I understand why some people are mad that they pay alot for a dog... Because at the end some dogs doesn't look like a good 'repersentation' of the standard... And it is like why are they breeding two standard dogs and creating more then they pay all of the bills and whatnot and say how much work they put in the dogs and blah blah blah but why are you breeding those dogs?! They look good but there coat isn't the best their topline and face is.... And I see lots of breeders pay alot for a litter but come on... you shouldn't have to because you shouldn't have bred the dogs..... And I think some breeders use YT to get sells by making friends then selling them that way... Not all breeders but some.. I'm not talking about show breeders because your dogs look like the breed with maybe a fault or two but most breeders has many faults and then say they are breeding because of this or that aren't out to make money. Your not really doing anything great because your only making more pet quality dogss.... Again My opinion and this in not towards anyone.. JMO ETA: and some breeders use AKC to show that their dogs are purebred and just b/c they are pure doesn't mean they will look like good examples of the breed and is another reason why they are charging high prices... I know AKC has a high standard but still you can have 'ugly' quality and still be with AKC |

For me that is a very smart question. At that point i can see if this is really the breed for me and figure out is another less popular breed will make me happy. I mean really, not asking the price is like taking a spin in a Lamborghini and hoping that it doesn't cost over 25,000$. Then when you find that indeed its way more than you thought u find that you have wasted your time and the sales person's time... in the case of a yorkie its like a waste of getting ur hopes up. |
Hello all I have been reading threw this thread and I do see both sides to this. I bought my not full blooded yorkie for two hundred and the lady said she "might be pregnant" and I am sure that some of you read my "help" thread a few weeks back. I would just like to say that I had a pretty smooth delivery compared to lots of breeders on here and I can see where all the money is in these dogs and all of the time, love worry, swet and tears, breeding dogs is not cheap by any means although some may be cheaper than others. I do have to say also I can see wanting to charge more for your pups so that you feel your babies are going to better homes, if some one pays $1000 for a pup there not just going to send it to the shelter next month. I also understand not wanting to spend that much of our hard earned money on a pup. It is such a toss up! I only spent 200 dollars on my baby and to me she is worth many more times that, But thats not saying that if I fell in love with a pup that was triple the price I would probally save, save, save! |

I rather a breeder sale me a Yorkie for 500, knowing that i still have 1500 of disposable income to spend if the dog needs medical attention. |

I live pay check to pay check myself. I'm middle class and make NO MONEY on a litter of puppies but I can't afford to place one for $300 either. I show my dogs and love my dogs dearly so I am VERY selective to where they go. If you can't afford my price then you can't afford a puppy for the rest of it's life either because you'll pay more than my asking price over the course of a yorkie's life. Now if you want a retired show dog from me then I might be able to place one for that price :) It takes everything I've got to make sure my dogs are healthy first then I will consider the home. Like Mary said it's a relationship you build with a potential new home for your puppy. Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
