Does you dog sleeps with you? I feel bad for Shadow b/c he sleeps in his cage. He has always slept there since the day we got him. Now that he is almost 1 y/o I am sarting to feel bad when I cage him at night. I was wondering if you guys thought leaving his bed outside his cage and locking him in the kitchen would be less cruel??? |
Ellie always sleeps with me and always will... That doesn't mean I am right in that decision though. |
Rocky is used to sleep in his little bed which is right next to mine within reach. But sometimes he wakes me up and I out him on my bed. He is so happy there |
Remy & Martini sleep with me every night. I feel lost if they were not there. |

In our case though, they aren't housetrained so it makes no sense to let them sleep with us. I'd probably end up rolling over into a not so special surprise!! So for now, we keep them downstairs at night. Thing is, even when they are housetrained, I still dont think it's a good idea for them to be in our bed. Our bed is a HIGH one and a fall from that could really hurt. Plus, either of us rolling over onto one could be catastrophic. |

Remy & Martini have stairs to get up to our bed and the sleep on the pillows above our heads. For us it's like when on of your children are in the bed with you. you won't roll over on top of them. but to each it's own.:D |

Mine all sleep with me, which is why I wake up all stiff. LOL I think the kitchen would be a better option if you can't let him sleep in your bed. |
Winstin sleeps with us. We were a little nervous at first. However, it has went well. He likes to sleep in between our pillows so it would be hard to roll on him. I think he is like a child in bed (not sure we do not have children). I am so aware he is there that I wake up easily. Our bed sits up high and he has no desire to jump out. Just waking up to him every day is awesome. He is so full of love and cuddles. I LOVE it. |
My dogs have always slept in bed with us. It's so comfy with their little warm bodies cuddled up to you. My chihuahua likes to sleep under the covers and my yorkie sleeps ontop, either by my stomach or between my husband and me. |
Personally I think he would be happier in his crate or cage in your room instead of in the kitchen away from you. If he is used to sleeping in there I would let it go. He's happy and it helps him to see you as the top dog which keeps you boss. Once you start letting them sleep with you they start losing sight of just who is boss. (which is his den to him and feels secure) Just my thoughts, Kim |
Izzy is totally crate trained but since she has gotten older and can hold her business all night - we have been letting her sleep with us on the weekends and crate during the week when we go to work. That way she's used to both just in case she has to get boarded someday or stay at someone else's house. My husband was also worried about smooshing her but that has never been the case - she sleeps in between our pillows or curled up between us or on my stomach side or my husbands stomach side....lol. |
I waited until Kiwi was housetrained before letting her sleep with us. And we always "invite" her up on the bed and tell her where she can sleep on the bed. I think this helps avoid dominance issues. I think most dogs would prefer to be in the same room as you, even if they are in their own crate. If they can smell you and know you are next to them I think that is better than putting them in a different room. My hubby was worried about rolling on Kiwi, but it has never happened. Probably because it is like when you sleep with your spouse, you get used to having someone next to you and your brain adjusts to it and prevents you from rolling over on top of them. :D |
Mine have always slept in the bed with me, I instinctively know where in the bed they are. They are very happy and perfectly well behaved. |
Zada and Azrael are the only dogs that have ever slept with us. We have had several dogs over the past 48 years and all were well adjusted and happy and did not share our bed. Zada and Azrael are well adjusted and happy and do share our bed..........so I don't think it makes any difference in their happiness whether they sleep with us or not. I do feel that if you've slept with a dog for a long time then the dog is put out of the bed for some reason, then the dog can be very confused. |
Both of mine sleep with me. Aubrey used to sleep in his cage, but now that hes potty trained I don't mind it! Except when the two of the take up the whole Queen size bed |
Squeaky has slept with me and my husband since he was about 6 months old. Since I started having problems with my back, he has taken over my side of the bed. We joke about it - a 6 pound baby, no longer than 15 inches, taking up the other half of a queen size bed. We never rolled over on him - if anything, he would "walk over one to get to the other." It was just like having one of my children in bed with me - you sleep but you are aware of the sounds and movements your baby makes.... |
I must be the only unpredictable sleeper here. There are plenty of times I wake up and wonder how the hell I moved so much in my sleep. I think it's no stretch of the imagination that my 230 pounds would absolutely become a menace at some point....I don't think he'd get out from under that! :D |
Susanah sleeps with her butt on my shoulder and her head on my pillow. |
Well I will say that Max our 6 month old Yorkie sleeps with us but not the whole night. He begins sleeping in his bed which I place next to our bed by my side that is until my husband wakes up at 4 a.m. to go to work. From there on he sleeps with me until its my turn to go to work. He has been sleeping in our room since we got him as he is trained to use training pads. When he would not hold his business all night he would wake up still half asleep go to the pad do his business and come back. Although some nights half way through I bring him to bed with us and he sleeps on our pillows. But I guess its what makes you feel better. At first we tried to have him sleep in the kitchen but we didn't like it. He might of slept in there for the first month we had him and after that he has slept in our room.:aimeeyork |
My pit bull sleeps in the bed with me but not Slade, my Yorkie mix. With both of them in the bed they think its playtime and I never get any sleep. |
OH YES!!! They do sleep with me, they have most of the bed. I wouldn't stop it though. They are so warm and comforting. Jackie |
Bitsy sleeps in a soft crate which is placed on my bed beside my pillow. I wouldn't worry about rolling over your dog when you're sleeping. My two cats sleep with me on the bed since they were kittens and trust me, you somehow just KNOW they're there. |
Bruin and Nico sleep next to our bed at night. we leave pee pads in the master bathroom so they can get up and go at night if they choose to. Our bed is to high for them to sleep on. The only time i let them sleep with us is if one of them is not feeling too good. Other than that, they sleep on their comfy large bed on the floor. |
Vinnie is definitely a bed bug. We got him at Christmas but he didn't sleep with us until we moved into the house, 3 months ago, now I couldn't go a night without him!! |
Buddy did but now he sleeps in his own bed. He seems to protective of MY bed during the night and growls at me if I move! I have put him back on the floor again last week. I have ordered him a new cozy large donut bed that he can stretch out in. He's so good I feel guilty. He just curls up in his bed and just goes to sleep. I really feel he is more comfortable sleeping alone and so am I. |
Do you just not want him sleeping in the bed or something??? Not being rude or anything just asking hehe :D The reason I ask is because if he is doing ok in his crate at night and you just DON'T want him sleeping in the bed...then I think leaving him in the crate at night is fine :) My babies sleep in the bed with us and always have (except for when we first got them and they were teeny tiny as I was afraid we were going to roll over on them and squish them in the bed so they slept in their crate, lol) - anyway though, it's not like I think dogs sleeping in their crates at night is cruel or anything - lots of people do this with their dogs. My sister has a Bull Dog and she has always slept in her crate at night (of course she is HUGE lol). But honestly if he is ok in his crate at night, and isn't going crazy barking or anything, and you don't want him sleeping in the bed with you....then I think leaving him in there at night to sleep is perfectly fine :) |
Autumn sleeps w/us everynight. She gets in the bed wiggles her little self under the covers and puts her head on the pillow. We crack up everytime because she is just so human like.:aimeeyork |

Sophie slept in her bed for well over a year, maybe 2, but I can't remember. I did not trust her as she took a long time to potty train and be trusted, and therefore, her kennel was safer for us. However, when she finally was trustworthy, my husband felt sorry for her, and he let her sleep with us. She has ever since, and she is 6 now. Poor kitty, however, got the boot from the bed. We have bed wars if we don't close our bedroom door. Kitty out, Sophie in.:D |
