I think all yorkies are gorgeous regardless of their weight or size. |
I have 2, 5.5 lbs and 16 lbs.... my sweetest, most loving one is the big boy Tootie.... he definitely my snuggler! I love my babies, both, no matter what their size, I sometimes even wish that Hopey was a little bigger because her small size sometimes scares me because she thinks she is a doberman! d |
Sugar is "large" by yorkie standards, she's 12 pounds, but she's still tiny to me since my cat is bigger than her. |

You guys should see her when she is wet :p Her head looks like a golf ball (seriously) and her stomach looks way too big for her body, lol - it's hilarious! As for Stedman, I actually think that he is way too skinny and would LOVE for him to get up to 5 lbs - although I honestly don't think it is ever going to happen for me :( But as long as he puts on a little weight and "fills out" in his stomach a little more - that will be good enough for me :) One needs to gain, and one needs to lose - SIGH, I can't ever win  lol. Bottom line though, is that weigh, size, color, blah blah blah does NOT matter. When we get our babies we are NEVER *guaranteed* of any of these things, and THEY love us for who WE are....so why can't we just love them for who THEY are! |
It is because Bikini is my first dog ever... I am not use to dogs has I haven`t been around a lot. I know that if you compare with a Husky, Bikini is small ;) But it has been a wonderful experience to have her around. She has a great personnality and already respond to some of my commands! I was just amazed on how 1 pound made a difference! |
Yes a pound can make a big difference depending on the frame. So with some yorkies a pound difference won't look like much at all while in others it will look like a huge difference. It just all depends on the frame and build of the yorkie. But 5 pounds is still tiny!! I have two males yorkies. The one is 3.5 pounds and the other is 5.5 pounds. So a two pound difference and it does look like a huge difference. But Scamp at 5.5 pounds is still very tiny. I prefer them to be in the 5 pound range, because when they are tiny you have to be extra careful with them and you worry about it all the time as they can get hurt so easily. |
I have to agree. I like them in the 5-7 pound range, because they're not as fragile, and seem to have less of a chance at getting sick. |
My Jax is a big yorkie about 8-9 pounds and he is the best dog ever. We also call him Moose. Jolie is 5 pounds and so tiny to us . No matter what, they have such big hearts and we love them so. |
In my opinion, I think that your "concern" is sort of common among new yorkie owners. But I think that you'll find as Bikini grows gradually, you won't really even notice her getting bigger until you compare pictures. Coby is much bigger than when he came home, but because I pick him up, smooch, and hug him every single day, he still "feels" just as tiny to me. You don't really notice the growth. It's just numbers, but I think many people think it's going to make a difference before they actually have a growing yorkie. I think you'll find that what you're wondering right now will fade away as Bikini grows up and is healthy and happy. |
My female is about 4.5 lbs. and male is 5 lb. My mom's yorkie is about 1 lbs. big big difference when you see them together. My mom says "there's just a whole lot more of him to love". He's just a teddy bear. Yorkies...big or small...we love em' all!!! |

when people at petco/petsmart ask what breed he is and if he is purebreed. Of COURSE he is a yorkie, just as much as my 3 pound remy! Your baby is only 4 months old, i can assure you she will grow more...:aimeeyork |
lol, it does make a difference! I can tell a HUGE difference between my four and they're not that far from each other. Lilli is 3.5lbs, Yodi is 3.9lbs, Bouncer is 4.5lbs, and Lotte is 6lbs. When they're all standing next to each other, Lotte looks HUGE! But she's not huge at all! haha She's the skinniest little thing ever, but compared to everyone else she's big! Even the difference between Yodi and Lilli is amazing. Just .4lbs difference, but it's obvious as day Yodi is bigger than Lilli. haha And none of them are overweight so it's not like anyone looks bigger b/c they're fatter. It amazes me haha |
I know it seems to bug some people that new Yorkie owner want a certain size Yorkie and that we all have the conception they are really small. I loved the breed because they are tiny. When I see a 15 pounds dog, to me it is big. But it is a question of taste. Just like I prefer a certain type of guy but it doesn`t mean I won't appreciate another type. I think toy poodle are somewhat cute but Giant poodles are ugly to me. This is my taste. But my sister in law has a Giant poodle and she loves her to death.... that is ok because it is what SHE wanted! We have to admit some dogs are ugly. I`ve seen some types of dogs that was so ugly that it made them cute ;) People have different taste, that is all. You can't judge people because they prefer one thing over another. I prefered Yorkie`s over all the other dog breeds. But all of my friends that I was nuts to get a Yorkie. They think it`s a small stupid dog. But now I prove them all wrong and slowly everybody falls in love with Bikini ;) They even think my boyfriend will look not manly to go for a walk with this dog... but he always says to them that he assume it ;) And my boyfriend is totally charmed by Bikini. She cuddles him all the time. So he doesn`t care what everyone thinks of him and is tiny dog :) I am lucky that my boyfriend was ok with me getting my little Yorkshire. All the guys I know want a huge dog because it is more manly ;) But I don`t judge them because they think a Yorkie is a stinky little dog.... If they prefer 125 pounds dogs and thats ok. But personnally I think huge dogs have the worst smell ever... I have two kids and they are the cutest to me. But I`ve seen ugly baby`s ;) But when it`s yours you love them no matter what! It`s a question of preference. When I bought my dog, I wanted the tiny dog because this is what I prefered... and I am allowed to have my own personal taste. But now that I have Bikini, no matter how cute or ugly she will get, I will always love her because she was the greatest addition to our family. But other people have the right to think she is not cute or that it is dumb that I put a bow on her head.... but to me I like it! Anyway, this was my thought and I think Yorki`s are the cutest ;) And by they way, I am addicted to Yorkie talk :) |

Second, you are right, everyone has their own preference on dog weight, size etc. and they have the right to choose. It truly is what is inside that package, whether it is 3 lbs or 50 lbs, that has us all gaga over these little humans in doggy bodies.:) IMHO, weight or size doesn't matter except how it relates to their health and well being. They all carry it differently. My girl feels like she weights a lot more than my boy, but she is very short and compact. My boy is less than a pound more than her, but is a lot longer in the body and more spongy :p He looks a lot bigger, I am sure, because of all his hair :) I have a Bichon that was supposed to get to be about 12 lbs as an adult. He grew to be almost 30 (was overweight for a while) Now is at 22 lbs, which is just right for his frame. I love him dearly. |
