I love to see the dogs with those long, beautiful cuts at the shows, but ours has cottony hair, and she HATES to be brushed. So we don't have much choice. She snaps at me when I try to get out mats. In the winter we let her hair get a little longer, but she has never had the long hair because it just won't quit matting when we let it grow too long.:(

I think it depends on the yorkie. Just like some people look better with a certain hair length, so do some yorkies.

I think the puppy cut is cute and very practical.

Right now I'm letting Susanah's hair grow out, but will probably keep it in a medium length/longish puppy cut and keep a topknot.

I like the looks of the long coat, but there is NO WAY I'm going to spend the time it takes to maintain it on a boy dog who loves to lie in the sand during the day and his favorite activity is to attack the sprinklers when they come on if he can get to them. Plus, it's rarely cold here where we live, the summers get over 120 deg. F.
But the main reason we decided to keep Max in a "puppy" cut (it's not really exactly that, it's just very very short), is b/c of how cute he was when he was a puppy and we wanted to keep that look as much as possible.
I think any type of cut looks good on them and I think it's up to the owner how they want their dog to look and isnt' really the business of anyone else.

I like the look of the long hair too, unfortunately it's not practical for everyone. I brush my dogs at LEAST once each day, and when you have a dog with a cotton coat, the longer hair just creates MATS like you wouldn't believe, especially when she wears clothes. Rather than put Emma through the discomfort of combing out mats and having to cut out chunks of her hair occasionally to remove them, I prefer to keep her in a Puppy cut. She looks cute that way, and my husband thinks she looks like a little teddy bear-his nickname for Emma is even Honeybear!

Milli has a little longer silky coat, but I'm actually going to be giving her a long-ish puppy cut this week. I know it sounds backwards, but I plan to let her hair grow out in the spring/summer, and cut it short in the winter-simply because I pretty much keep them both in sweaters or other clothes in the winter. They need that extra layer of warmth since we're in Iowa, and I don't think it's fair to keep their hair long if it's just going to mat under their clothes.

I do like the hair on their heads to be longer so they can have ponytails and it just looks cuter around the beard part a little longer too!

I keep Sam's top longer so I can pull it back. I think he is super handsome in bows

I LOVE long hair on yorkies. Maddie has longer hair. Tucker's in a puppycut. He has gorgeous coloring and I wish we could grow his hair out. But he's such a little ball of energy he would be a walking mat.

The yorkie that I saw when I first decided I wanted a yorkie was in a puppy cut. I saw the cutest little yorkie girl in a very short cut at a mall, and I said, pointing, "I want a dog like that!"

I like the puppy coat...I think it's really cute. I keep Kalina's hair long though, although her belly is shaved. She plays like crazy outside and gets matted, wet, dirty, etc. Lately, with the puppy coat growing out, her coat has been a little bit easier to manage. As time goes by I'll decide if I want to keep it long or get it trimmed - I like both.

I wanted aurora to have long pretty hair and to have a topknot that I could put bows in. BUT her personality will not allow it. I will brush her and as soon as I am done, she is rolling on the floor messing it all up. I would try to put her hair in a topknot and she would knot her hair up horribly trying to get it out. My mom decided to cut her hair and I was all for it. I wanted a little girly dog BUT Aurora is a little tomboy and wants no part of it. She is getting better about clothes, at least, so I can compromise and say no long hair or bows.

I like both. I have one in full coat, one in a modified schnauzer cut, one if a full schnauzer cut, and one in a bell bottom cut (with her bell bottoms being dyed pink). I like playing with their hair and having fun with all of the different looks. Bouncer actually had the puppy cut earlier in the summer before he grew out some from it and we put him in a full schnauzer cut. Yes, they are known for their long flowing hair. For some people though, the hair is too much and it's much easier to manage when it's short. Now granted, it takes me not even 15 minutes to brush out all four of mine, and that's including my full coated girl. I have a hard time when clients come in wanting them cut siply because they say "I just don't have time to brush them" Excuse me? you don't have FIVE minutes out of your day AT ALL? That life must suck. lol There are some days though I wonder if I've lost my mind leaving any hair on them at all after they come in from playing outside! haha I was thinking today about the fall weather coming and once those leaves start falling......I'm doomed! haha

Shelby & Seymour both have full-coats, but there has been many times that I consider getting a "New Look" for them. It takes a lot of dedication and time to keep their hair in good shape and without my hubby...... who helps out a LOT... it would be difficult. I love to put coats, sweaters, shirts, jammies, etc. on them and I think that the shorter hair would make that easier. I really think it depends on the dog.... just like people.. some look better with long hair, some look better with short. I love seeing Shelbs & Seymour with their hair flowing and soft... especially after a comb out. :hearts6:
Some of the puppy cut pics that I have seen on YT are adorable... and I couldn't imagine them being any different. (and I also have a really hard time visualizing Seymour in a shorter cut :eek: .... although Shelby would wear it well :) )

The hair style is a preference....but regardless of it.... that little bundle of Yorkie, underneath it all, is what counts.
