Anal glands smell like a stinky, strong, muscy, fishy smell. If it's not the breath or anal glands, it could be an ear infection. Those can smell terrible too. I think a trip to the vet might be a good idea. No dog should smell that bad, especially if you bathe that regularly |
In case it's ears, my Shi Tzu has chronic yeast ear infections. Smells sooooo bad. We use Dr. Ear from Native Remedies. |
I would have to agree..ear infection or anal glands..both are just as disgusting smelling...although ear infections really smell bad..its worth a check up at the vet thats for sure!! Dawn |
yah could be ear infection. |
It's most likely his anal glands. His ears are fine. Does everyones yorkie smell and need there anal glands expressed? What causes it? |

Teddy sometimes gets the smell of sour milk on his face. It doesn't really seem to be coming from his mouth (breath), but more like the hair on his face, which is strange because he doesn't drink milk. I just figured it was because he stuck his face in his water again and the hair got wet. It goes away for a while after his bath. |
You should take him to the vet. You've gotten a lot of possibilities here -- eye gunk, breath, ears, anal glands, even a urinary infection. I'll give you one more...we had a poodle that reeked. I kept sniffing every orifice of that girl trying to find out the source. Gave her numerous baths. Took her to the vet, and it turned out she had an almost non-functioning thyroid gland. One of the symptoms is a nasty odor. After a few weeks on a very inexpensive medication (which was for life), she smelled great, and she felt so much better. None of the possibilities you've been given can be cured by you. You must take your fur baby to the vet before whatever is causing this gets worse. You don't want him at risk or in pain. Let us know what the vet finds out. |
