Does anyone use a console carseat? How exactly do they attach to the console? Any advise on a good one? oh and do they fit most vehicles? Thanks!! |
We had one we used for about 6 months. It attaches with straps around the back of the console. We didn't care for it though as the sides coolaped down out of shape after a while. Teddy did love to sit there though and was very happy when I made him a bigger one with more rigid sides. I bought a basket with a metal frame lined it with non collaping foam and covered it with a cute material. He absolutely lived in it literally for 20 days 10 hours or more a day on our trip from Alaska to Georgia. It help up really well and he still loves to get in it when we get in the car. I think the console seat will fit most cars if you buy the smaller one. I don't know about the larger one as we had the small one. I did not like how it sat on top of the console. The bottom of it is not flat. It has a foam part that comes down further in the back and forces it to sit further back. I think I get the reasoning but it just didn't work too well in my opinion. I love mine! I have the smaller console one. It works great and haven't had any problems with it. |

What kinds are best and I still don't understand how they attach to the console. We have a 3/4 ton 4 door truck, so I'm guessing the SUV size would fit. |
I just ordered the over size one for my Denali. I haven't got it yet should be here today or tomorrow I can't wait. What kind of vehicle do you have? I will let you know when we get it what I think? ! |

The one I have is a snoozer or lookout, something like that. The common one advertised. There are straps on the bottom of the seat that you attach to the driver's and front passenger's seats where they are attached to the floor of the car. You wrap them around the "legs" of those seats there. |
There are 2 straps at the bottom of the carseat. One on each side. They are pretty long. I don't know for sure if I did it correctly but I threaded mine through the sides of the fold down console and clipped around the metal base of the saet. We had it in our suburban which had bench seat all the way accross with a fold down console in the middle. We had the console folded down with the seat on top of that. I hope I didn't just confuse you more! LOL Kim |

I have the Snoozer small console and I love it for Izzy - now I have a Ford Focus and it has a small console but we were able to get it on and secure with no problem. I'll try to get pics this weekend and post of her in it. |

I think I have just the regular size Lookout and it fits great in my Tahoe. But no, it probably doesn't work well with all vehicles (especially cars). The longer part in the back is supposed to keep it from sliding forward. It's a little confusing trying to explain how to attach it but I think some others have said it well enough. There's also a strap at the front of it that is supposed to slip under the top of the console (if it's the kind that opens). I actually think it's quite a pain to put it in and take it out so what we do is just slide it backwards and let it sit on the backseat floorboard - but it's still attached by the side straps to the front two seats. Does that make sense? Then when we want to use it, we slide it back up and maybe tighten the straps a little and attach that front strap under the console top. Tatum truly LOVES her carseat and it's a great idea to have one. |
I don't have one, but would like to get one. Which kind do you all think is the best. |

This is the one I have. I didn't get it from this place but I just wanted to find you a good picture of it. |
Well I got mine I was not impressed but My dogs love it. So now what. I am going to look into making one a little more sturdier like nvngirl said. Linda |
3 Attachment(s) We have the Snoozer Console carseat. I love it!!!!!! And most importantly so does Annie. She is able to see out all of the windows. Even the front. I also struggled with what size to get. I ended up with the regular snoozer console for pets up to 4 lbs. The next size up would not fit my console in my Explorer. It was way to big. It comes with a strap that holds onto the console it self and then two straps that you secure to the driver and passenger seat. There is a bump on the back but that is what help it from going forward. We have very curvy mountain passes here and that carseat did not move at all what so ever!!! I ordered mine off e-bay shipping was free and I was able to customize the colors. The pics below are of Annie in her car seat. |

I see where you say that it fits up to 4 lbs, but is Annie more than 4 lbs? My Max is 5 lbs, sometimes 6 (when he's not exercising enough). That was the reason I decided not to get that particular car seat. Is Annie able to curl up and sleep in it also? Those were my main concerns. It's hard, b/c I can't find one to see in person and I don't want to waste my money. |
I've got a full car seat in the back, but my issue is how to keep him in it. He always wiggles out of his harness or the buckle. This last time I was headed to Deception Pass, next thing I know he was out and half way out the window. I lunged across the passenger and grabbed by his nubby tail with one hand and hit the automatic window upper with the other. Finally made it over to the side and then fell apart. I'm in the boycot carseat stage now. He's calm on my lap but freaks and flips in the seat until he gets out. :( |
No but I sure would like one. I wonder if it would fit in my Rondo. |

Tatum is about 5.5 lbs. and fits in ours just fine - to sit up and look around or to lay down to sleep. She lays with her head propped on the edge when she sleeps but could lay down completely curled up inside the seat if she wanted. We have the same one. |

I went out and took pictures the best I could to try and help you. Now you know that we are not to talk about a girls weight :D, but in this case:D Annie weighs 5.5lbs. She has never been one to really curl up in a ball she likes to sleep stretched out. In the one pic with her in the carseat and the measuring tape she actually has 3 inches on the end. She just has so darn much hair its hard to see that. I also put in a light colored towel so that you could see her better in it. 2 post with pics post 1 of 2 |
pic post 2 of 2 3 Attachment(s) Hope these help :p |
Does anyone use a console carseat Not sure what kind mine is but is was $50 and it has to go in the front seat, bucket seats, it straps around the seat and the head rest. I can hook Trickse to it with her harness but she will not sit still and got it wrapped around her neck, I almost had a wreck to save her, SOOO, I put her in and do not hook her up and she does stay but I just read that if you have an airbag, DO NOT put them in the front seat. |

I do have a console, where did you get yours, what brand? Thank you so much Donna |

Yes, if an airbag can kill a human baby in a car seat, I would hate to see what it would do to a yorkie. My Honda airbags don't come on in the passenger seat unless there is at least 60 lb. of weight on the seat. But most cars don't do that. Some do have a manual turn off. But I would never put a dog or child there (on the seat) with the air bags on. Mine is the Snoozer one like in post #16. I got it at JC Penney Online. But I think they were clearing them out. Not sure if they carry them anymore. They do sell them for pretty good prices on ebay or at the pet boutiques. I think some YT'rs even carry them. Try Tinkerbell's Closet. |

No problem, I don't mind helping at all :p I don't think it will squish down that much...... while it is made of foam it is made of really thick foam.... OK I am heading out to try and squish it. I checked it out. Now the base(bottom) is firm(not solid, as in hard) because all 4 sides are glued to it. I turned the carseat over and measured the bottom. It is molded for the console so it wont slip. But the bottom only measured 6 3/4 inches and them it like flute, maybe a tulip, would be a better example. Narrow at the bottom, but opens going up toward the top(sides) and the sides do have more give for the squish. So I really think you will be OK. It will just be a snug fit. |
