Butchered, Bleeding, and bald from groomers
 

I took my little boy Diddy to the groomers this morning and I wish I wouldn't have. This was his 2nd time at this place and last time they did a wonderful job. This time it was horrible. He was there for 5 hours and when I picked him up he was shaking and scared. His face and feet are just butchered! It is completely bald and uneven between his eyes. When I got in the car I noticed blood all over my clothes. I took him back in and the guy said. "Oh it is just her nails bleeding, She was very very bad when I was cutting her nails." He just spent 5 hours with my dog and he never realized it was a male dog? Did he have to day he was bad? :mad: I feel like such a bad mommy for having Diddy go there and end up bleeding and his hair looks horrible!:(

Now I need to find a different groomer. How am I going to ever feel safe taking my baby to a groomer?

We are going to Woofstock tomorrow in Harrisburg PA and I was going to enter him in a costume contest. I guess now I can enter him in the scariest category.

I am just so upset and don't know what to do.

They sound very unprofessional! I'd def. be finding a new groomer.

i feel your pain. Layla came back from the groomers shaking and just a mess.. mentally... we dont' take her anymore and i just do ti myself. i bought a clipper from PetEdge and it takes about 15 min.. we do it every week so that it isn't such a huge job... he will probably be upset for a few days.. layla insisted that i carry her for 3 days after grooming.. make me wonder what else went on there....

For now, just help Diddy to settle down and feel safe again. Give him extra love and a treat.

Have you ever thought of grooming him yourself? Maybe your vet could at least show you how to trim nails.

Your poor little boy... I'm sorry he had such a bad experience.

If there is a supervisor or boss where you go, I would talk to them or write a letter. Letting a dog sit and bleed is totally unacceptable.:mad:

Its stories like this that make me too scared to take mine to the groomers. I just do it myself.

I was thinking about grooming him myself, I just don't know how. I am too scared to cut his nails myself, maybe I will have my vet show me and give it a shot.

but since you seem like you don't really trust any groomer, did you ever think of doing it yourself ? maybe you can buy some grooming tools and read how to do it step-by-step so you control how you do it . when i take my baby to the vet, they just take him into the back and cut his nails and it comes out perfect !

Poor Baby:( that makes me angry to hear such a thing...How the heck business allows to have so many un-professional groomers affecting the wealth of out love ones!!! I saw an episode once and I was very mad myself where the groomer had no tolerance and she was an a^^ with the puppy...:mad:

I'm sorry :( It's sad that there are so many bad groomers out there. Good Luck finding a good one - there are good ones out there - they are just hard to find. Hopefully his hair will grow back fast

Oh no. NOthing is worse than a bad haircut. I would def. find a new groomer. And I would try to get my money back from that groomer seeing how he didn't do a good job, and your baby came out bleeding. Thats why I am soo scared to take mine to the groomers, I do most of it myself. Sorry you had a bad experience!

Good luck on finding a professional groomer who cares and is not in it only for the $$$$$.

Man, it would have been difficult not to get personal and in that person's face. What a jerk!

i would ask for my money back andd find a new groomer. I would also talk to the owner.

Oh Diddy you poor baby, you. If I could jump through this pc screen I would kiss your boo-boo toes.:( Don't feel bad, mommy, you didn't know since they did a good job the first time. But, I don't think I would go back to this groomer again especially when he had that laid back attitude about oh "she" was bad with the toe clipping. Too bad - is he the only groomer there? If Diddy was wiggling around then he should have gotten help from his fellow groomers. Izzy is not the easiest either with her toes but our groomer holds her while his wife cuts her tootsies.

Just give him extra treats tonight and hugs and kisses and keep telling Diddy he is beautiful cause he is!

Really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I think he will be really reluctanct the next time if you ever take him to a groomer. Once a dog has a bad experience at a groomer its hard to recover. As everyone else has suggested, try home grooming and if you are afraid to do the nails to go the vet and have them done. If you lived closer I would recommend my groomer.

Thanks to everyone for your replies! Diddy appreciates the hugs and love from fellow Yorkies and their mommies. I am going to invest in clippers and try it myself. I don't think I could do any worse than they did.

I am going to call the owner on Monday and let him know about what happened today.

I've heard of these horror stories many times and I feel so sorry for the little dogs who have to endure hours in a cage then get tortured. Mine have never been groomed by anyone but me and I can tell you, it's very easy to do. There is a great deal of information on the web on grooming and how to. I'd go for it. ;)

What kind of clippers did you get? I order from PetEdge all the time and I was just looking at the clippers. Is there something specific I should be looking for?

My vet offers grooming services. They always do a great job. I try to schedule my doc visits on grooming days. Bella loves going..so I guess they treat her like the princess she is! So sorry about your experience! I would be devastated!:cry:

I would learn to groom yourself!!! I used to work for a groomer/AKC judge/breeder of top champions. The day I walked out was the day this groomer thought she killed a client puppy. This was the puppies first groom. It was afraid of all the noise, clippers and dryers. The groomer yanked that puppy up with a choke chain and shook it until the puppy was bleeding from the nose and passed out. The groomer thought the puppy was dead and shook it some more until the puppy regained consiousness. Needless to say, the puppy just hid in the back of the kennel and drooled. I couldnt believe that a person in the grooming/showing/judging business for over 30 years would do such a cruel thing. That person is to this day still open for business.
It is a little costly to buy the supplies up front, but in the long run, it will save you time and money and you will get to spend quality time with your Yorkie.

Not all groomers are like this, but you never know what goes on behind closed doors. Lynn

I am definitely going to learn to groom him myself. Otherwise I'll be a wreck when he needs groomed.

I'm sorry! We took Loki to a terrible groomer a couple times. I found a much better one and learned to do some stuff myself too. Now when I take them I always do their nails the day before so that they don't have to get so stressed out by that at the groomer. I'd rather they hate me than the groomer!! Then they behave for her. She cuddles them and doesn't push them too far (sometimes their hair isn't perfect, but she will NOT hold them down just to get a stray hair - that is why I have good scissors and have learned how to do little touchups) She lets me stay if I want, both to help comfort the dogs and to watch and learn. I know how to trim around pads, pluck ear hair, trim ears, use clippers, etc. because I've seen it 10 times now. We go back because she does a far better job than me :D but also because they love her.

Loki used to shake when I picked him up from the old groomer too. Now he runs up to our groomers door and waits for his hug and treat.

She calls Loki her little show dog because he is so good at getting groomed. He is way better for her than for me, and he was not always good. She knows his limits and he respects that. Sammy is a wiggle worm so I always stay to hold her. It takes two of us to groom her. I can't imagine what she would do if I just dropped her off. Anyway, I hope you find someone as wonderful as we have. Ask around - it's easy to spot the dogs in the neighborhood that go to the groomer!!

So sorry for your bad experience. Maybe you could find a groomer that would let you stay there with him?

I am a groomer and I could NEVER imagine doing this to a scared puppy let alone to any dog at all.
But your right, becareful who you let groom your dogs, you never know whats going on behind those closed doors.
