need advice Hi. It has been a while since I have posted. I have some questions about getting another yorkie. I currently have a male that is just over 1 year old. Both myself and husband are out of the house for 8 hours a day and we would like him to have a playmate/companion. I have done some research and spoken with some breeders. The general feedback I am getting is to get another male dog. I am told that males will play better. If I were to get a female he would try and hump her and could infect her or piss her off (he is neuetered). I strictly want a playmate and not to breed. Does this seem accurate? Does anyone have experience getting another one of the same sex? I also hear that these dogs are best when you have more than one. Is it less work? Any advice and pointers are much appreciated as I am a little nervous about getting another dog. Also breeders in my area are asking 1200-1500 for a puppy. Does this seem high? Any questions I should ask a breeder? Thanks! |
I have 2 male dogs. Mojo, my yorkie, is also a little over 1 year, Byron, our rescued chihuahua mix e about 2-3 yrs old. They get along fine, but there is one thing i was alerted at the begining, they will be disputing the territory and "marking" everything as their own, meaning that they would be "lifting" their little legs everywhere. I have not seen that happen and they've been together for over 6 months now and they are the best of friends. Now Byron is leaving me :( and i will definetly buy a female yorkie, so i am also hoping that they will get along good. It would be good to pay attention on how he interacts with male and female...that will help you make ur choice. |
I cannot comment on two yorkies. I have a Yorkie male and a Maltese female. That was also my concern. I was told so long a they are both neutured and spayed they should be fine. Chester has never tried to hum her at all and thank goodness too. She will be getting spayed in January to avoid any issues. Chester was neutured too. Having too is deffinetly easier. They look out for each other and can not be seporated. only problem is .. it is hard to carry them both at the same time. :) Other then that.. it is a lot better with two. I was also told that males are better with children and like to play alot. Chester sure can play there is nothing stoping him once he gets started. There are some others on the forum that have two yorkies I'm sure they can give you more advise. ;) |
actually that price is pretty common....... i had trouble finding anything below 800 ...... when i found toby for 600 i jumped on it... AND he gave me 100 off coz toby is gunna be a BIG boy ( about 7-8 lbs full grown)... sooooooo......... i got a good deal and only paid 500, but hes not papered, he is strictly PET QUALITY, if that is all you are looking for, usually breeders lower their prices when they know you just want a pet, from what i understand..... then again ive only had toby 2 days...... :) |
i have 2 males a silky and a yorkie kaykos 7 months brownies 2 years and they love each other SO MUCH that i even wanna get another dog for me cause there always together they dont want me anymore lol:( i really dont think that the sex of the dog really matters i paid $758 for brownie he has papers i was actually gonna pay 1200 for a teacup but i didnt bring enough money with me so i started looking at the cheaper toy yorkies and i found brownie he was in a cage with a whole bunch of white puppies he was sound asleep its deff a little harder with 2 it takes time remember youll have to go through potty training if you get a young puppy i have brownie potty trained when he was 2 months good luck let us know what you decide :) |
oh orinskye How much does your guy weight since you said he was a BIG BOY |
we weighed him in at 3.2 lbs today........ and hes twelve weeks old........lol........ he was chubby when i got him, I SWEAR  |
Thanks for the input! I am just nervous that they won't get along. My yorkie right now is so spolied! |
2 yorkies Hi. I have two adorable yorkies (aren't they all?). They are six years old, both females and littermates. They get along great, follow me or my husband all around, and do everything together. One weighs 8 lbs., and my other one is 18 lbs! I think that's a record for yorkies! My big one, Chewy, had valley fever and was very sick. So, we had to force feed her (baby food thru a syringe). We should've stopped when she started gaining her weight back, but we didn't because we were so worried about her. Now, we put her on a diet. That darn valley fever cost us a lot of heartaches. But now she's on the mend. Anyway, I think they get along great and two are definitely better than one. I am gone for long hours every day, and my husband is too. So, we don't feel as bad when we know they'll be together. They still pay a lot of attention to us. :) |
