My Yorkie --Biggest Mistake! :( Hi everyone, I am so upset right now. I didn't know where else I could express this and have someone actually understand. I love my puppy Butters so much, more then anything. I know most on YT can relate. My mom honestly tricked me into giving her away to relatives. :thumbdown I had to move in with my parents for a short time so I was going to find a baby sitter for my Butters until I found my own place. My mom made a deal with some relatives behind my back! to give my Butters to them while I was at work. While she was driving my dog over to their house I didnt have one single clue. She was already on her way to the relatives' house when she called me. I still can't express how upset, angry, furious I was and still am.  I called the relatives, I call them "the" relatives because they are not personally close to me at all. So I called them and I was so mad, I told them that I do not want them to have my dog, that they simply don't understand how much I love and care for Butters. They offered me $200 dollars for her, now that was like a slap in the face. She is worth wayy more then anything, she was my baby, my best friend. To make a long story short - Because I was so insulted with the offer for $200 I simply made them promise to take good care of her and gave her to them for Free!! because of the whole living situation I really had no choice, my mom wanted her out and out now. The story honestly goes just as I said it, it still upsets me that my mom would do such a thing to me. To this day she and I have not talked at all!!:( I moved out, got my own place, and I am still so broken over my dog. I desperately want her back so badly. I saw an inappropriate picture of my Butters with one of their sons on his page today. That is what prompted me to write this, because I am so upset over that and more so at myself for making the biggest mistake on Butters behalf. I am just praying to the Lord that somehow I can get her back. I wrote the relatives today and told them that I desperately want my dog back, that I would do whatever it takes pay however much to have her back with me. I know that they're not taking good care of her like they promised me they would. I started looking for another puppy but no I just simply can't go on without at least trying to get Butters back. :( :animal-pa Thanks for reading, I will keep you posted and let you know what the relatives say. -Pray for Butters and I- Thank you & God Bless. :rose40: |
Sorry that happened. That was a big harsh of your mom to get rid of the dog like that being as she knew you were looking for a new place and it was only temporary. |
If you have proof that she is yours (contract signed when you bought her from a breeder, vet records, registration papers, Microchip) then that will show that she is legally yours. A verbal agreement doesn't hold up in court because there is no proof. So unless you signed a contract giving custody of the dog to them, then she is still legally yours. You can take them to court to get her back. |
well, i am kind of a Biatch....BUT i would march right over there and take my dog back because its YOURS and your mom had no right to give it away like that! was there some reason you couldnt have it at her house with you? I would be absolutely FURIOUS at my mom if she ever even thought about doing it...let alone behind my back!...im sorry to hear about your situation...i hope it gets better for you soon |
oh that is so sad that your mom did not take the time to be honest with you. I do hope you get Butters back :( |
Oh, no. I hope you can get her back!!! My prayers are coming out to you |

And yes I agree with the rest. TRY TO GET YOUR BABY BACK!! be very persistant and if they are only after the money then offer what you can and get her back.. |
Oh my gosh I am so sorry this happened to you!!!Have you tried talking to the relatives in a reasonable way, explaining just how much this little Butters means to you? Try and appeal to their emotions, explain how heartbroken you are. If that gets you nowhere, then maybe explain the legal side of this, like Myfairlacy suggests. I know that getting another dog could not begin to replace your Butters, this is an animal you bonded with and obviously love. I really feel for you. I cannot imagine how crazed I would be if anybody took one of my girls away. |
That is so sad. How long have they had her? As MyFairLacy said- she is your dog and you have every legal right to claim her. I would get your paperwork together and tell them you are on your way to pick her up. If they have a problem with it the police can get involved. Good luck!:) |
I agree with the person above. Go to their house and take that puppy back!! You gotta get your butters back! :( Good luck! |

LOL, we were posting at the same time- your advise was better.:p |
so sad ... how much time has passed? You should get over there ASAP and demand your baby back ... explain to them that things are different now and that your mom had NO right to unilaterally decide to rehome Butters ... Let them know you appreciate that they "baby sat" for Butters but that he is really NOT theirs ... and get his leash on and leave. If they oppose, go there with the "law" and prove that he is yours ... That is such a sad story .... I hope you can resolve this in your favor .... |

sorry you are going through this... how long has it been:confused: |
I agree, you should go over there and just take her. What are they going to do, call the police? I don't think they really want to go there. Take a friend with you and show up unannounced, but at a time you know they will be home (spy if necessary!). Try to get Butters on your lap or next to you. First, try to negotiate with them. Since they didn't pay for her, I don't think you should pay them back for the dog. But you could offer to pay them for babysitting her and for food and stuff. See if you could work out an agreeable amount and payment schedule. If negotiation doesn't work, I would pull out any paperwork I had saying that she was yours, including vet records, breeder records, licensing, etc. I would then just say that you tried to work it out nicely, but since Butters was rehomed without your permission, you are going to take her back now. Hopefully Butters is on your lap or next to you at this point. Stand up and you and your friend walk out of there. Free Butters!:D |
