grooming chin hair...? Paddington's chin hair gets matted from drinking water throughout the day. It seems painful for him when I brush it, but I hate for it to be matted all day long. Is there anything I can do to keep it from matting? He doesn't mat anywhere else, just under his chin! Thanks -O |
Coby's not "too" bad at letting me comb his chin, but I'm waiting for someone with a real trick for that dilemma to reply!! |
Can't wait to hear from the experts. I'm having the same problem with Mindy. |
no one has any good solutions? :( -O |
Keep it trimmed can you keep that hait short?:aimeeyork |
I call them "chin bangs" and I keep Otis's pretty short. Good luck. |
Keep it short I just keep Koda's very short:thumbup: |
I trim Lola's as close to her chin as possible. Not really because it would get in the way, I just think it looks nicer. |
this thread is too funny because I was just pondering what to do with Lexie's chin hair as well!! Every time she gets a drink of water her fur gets all wet-and of course she has to run and give me a huge WET kiss!!! haha!! |
I've seen water bottles for dogs like the ones for hamsters with the metal rolling balls...They lick at it and the water comes out a little at a time. I haven't tried it, but I've thought about it. I just don't want them to lose the ability to know how to drink out of a bowl in case one day that was all that is available. |
I'd either keep it short, or wash it with some detangler and then comb it through. |
My suggestion would be to put lots of conditioner on that area. (not the leave in kind. I don't mind the water on the face hair, but when they eat, they get a bit messy. I'm generally washing that area each evening during teeth brushing time. |
anyone have pics from where they cut the chin hair short???????? |

I'd also like to see pictures of the short chin hair. I am taking him to the groomer on Friday, and maybe I'll have them cut it short. I'll also try the conditioner! Thanks for the tips! -O |
Yes you can cut the chin hairs Well I do anyway! Hey my husband has that same problem.. |
yes. I have seen them too. Haven't used one yet though. |
If they are young enough, you can train them to just get used to brushing their beards. I have done it as soon as it started growing in....they totally let me brush them, and yes, I use a lot of conditioner on it after I wash them. Some things you just have to do for their own goods. If you do it enough, they get used to it. Brush them everyday, and afterwards, always give them a treat so they know that's coming! Just hold their little snouts and DO IT! |
I have that same problem with Deiter. The beard also gets in the way when we play fetch, sometimes I grab that when I try and get the ball from him. Then I fell really bad. My boyfriends gets in the way also. That when he drinks not fetch....lol |
