Since Sam lives in my house and under my rules... I do not allow for children under the age 18 to get anything pierced or tatoo'd.... I dont care how much he sits up and begs... this is a firm NO! You are not going to get your ears pierced, Mister! He may hate me but I think when he is older, he will thank me. Not that he will ever have children of his own but he may have nieces or nephews that may look to him for advice. |

I do have these magnetic stud earrings that my mom actually bought for London, or me, can't remember actually but i have my ears pierced so i think it was for her..anyway they were really cheap and she thought they were cute. Well i have put them on London and she doesn't even notice they are on her. She doesn't scratch at her ear..nothing. They look cute too but i always take them off after like a minute cause i dont want her to lose them. I think she feels them but they don't hurt at all. |
I don't think it's particularly cruel, although I think their ears are much thinner than ours. It might hurt therm. I know I've pierced my own ears with a sterilized needle and a piece of ice. I do think it could be ripped out if your dog was playing with other dogs and that's why it's not a good idea in my mind. I also think it's too over the top as far as accessorizing a dog but, again, that's just my opinion. I took my daughter and my 2 granddaughters to have their ears pierced as soon as possible, so my opinion is certainly based on society's rules, and maybe not so valid. Lara2913 - I'd love to see pictures of your dog(s) with long tails. They must be beautiful! I think it's very interesting that tail docking and ear clipping are illegal in the UK. Is it considered unhealthy? Maybe it really is! This is a great thread! |
Otis has never asked to have his ears pierced! I personally would not do it. My shih poo loves to grab Otis's ears and pull! I am a huge fan of the full Yorkie tail. I'd love to see breed standard bring the tails back. I think the europeans have the right idea. I love to see tails waggin and the longer the tail, the better! |
I agree...I know it's the standard here in the US, but so many other countries have made it to where the yorkies keep their tail, and I think it's beautiful!! |

She did fabulous! Got my daughters ears pierced today! It went quite well. No real crying until after the second one was done and those tears lasted all of about 20 seconds and then it was on to giggling and babbling per usual. I was completely thrilled because I was expecting much more of a fuss from a 5 month old! *whew* http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...rightafter.jpg http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...er/Alldone.jpg Now the dog....I'll wait on the dog. |

Its illegal in the UK because its considered a cruel and unnecessary procedure, here is an interesting link about tail docking in the UK which discusses both sides of the argument. http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/informat...s/taildocking/ |

I cant believe this thread ~ i guess like they say only in America! I think having a dogs ears pierced is absolutley stupid, it would serve no purpose at all, and it would cause pain to the dog, wether its 10 seconds or 20 minutes of pain you are still causing pain to your dog. I dont think tail docking or ear clipping is neccasary either, its just all about appearance and i know sure as anything that my babies, with their full tails and full non pierced ears are the most beautiful yorkies on the planet. never in a million years would i have my dogs ears pierced it would be an accident waiting to happen. i had my ears pierced at 10 months of age and i have no problem with children having their ears pierced, but animals are animals not toys |

Really? Earrings on a dog? I think that is ridiculous, but I guess everyone is entitled to an opinion. What happens though when your dog is at a park or playing somewhere with another dog and the earring gets ripped out? I just would not do this, I find it sort of useless and cruel... Sure tail docking, etc is the same, but here is the thing once the tail is docked it is not going to have the potential to cause future injury...An earing can rip the ear pretty easily. |
2 Attachment(s) Here's London with her magnetic earrings. They are a little big cause my mom bought them but something a little smaller would be nice. She doesn't even mess with them. |
aww london is such a sweetie! and magnetic earrings are a much better idea aslong as they dont irritate your baby. I still personally see no point to it at all, but each to their own right! :) |
I just don't get all the fuss or the necessity for earrings on a dog. London is always beautiful :D She doens't need the earrings to make her look adorable. |

Thanks for the article. It's very interesting. I had to laugh at the nonsense we humans surround ourselves with - tail docking, for example, as a controversy. (I don't think your point is nonsense at all, by the way - just the concept that we argue about the most amazing things). There doesn't seem to be any real with reason for doing it. I thought breed standard was universal. I guess not! I had an Irish Setter who would point when my daughter was a baby and she would pull herself up to a standing position on his back and tail. He was a sweet, sweet boy, the breed is considered working dogs and their tails are magnificent. Yorkie K9trainer - your children are beautiful! I think if I wanted an earring in my dog's ears, there are little stick-on fake jewels. If you buy really small ones, I can't see that it would hurt the dog even if they did eat it. God only knows what Max finds in the grass during the summer that I don't see him eating - he's so close to the ground he sneaks things in his mouth. |
Thanks guys! (And I only have one child...just my little girl.) And here's "Ava", the girl I got in from Hungary. She stayed too small for me to compete w/ in conformation as planned (3 lbs at 19 months), but as you can see she still has her tail. http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r...r/DCP_2746.jpg |
