That sounds exactly like how Dixie was acting! I hate to bring up bad memories for you, but did they ever find out what went wrong? I think it may help me get to the bottom of what happened in Dixie's case.

I think that it is the vet tech who administers the gas (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) and I'm really suspecting that she gave her too much and may have given my Bailey too much as well. I'm requesting that she be let go and I'm going to file an official complaint against her, but I need to get my ducks in a row first so to speak.

It's okay. I never did find out what went wrong with my girl, but suspect too much drugs. I didn't get the necropsy, as we were already in debt with her surgery bills. I should have!

I am just very very thankful that you knew Dixie wasn't right and did something about it. We waited too long to get Starr to the ER vet, and she was DOA. At least we were holding her and talking to her, telling her we loved her, when she went:love:

Dixie is one lucky girl and I hope that if the vet tech is guilty that she never works with animals again!

I suspect that it was the dosage of drugs given in Dixie's case as well. I have learned that you need to use a vet you trust (which I did) but its also important to know and trust the vet tech who seems to be just as important in making sure that the surgery goes smoothly. In the past, I have questioned the vet extensively, but I have never asked anything about the vet tech.

This is a very informative thread and I am happy to hear that Dixie is ok....I am contemplating getting my lil one spayed next month (she will be 8 mths old) and I now have a list of things to ask my vet before I even schedule the surgery.

Thank you guys for posting all this important information! I love how everyone on this site is so quick to share their story so that others can be aware in case it happens to their baby. I am happy that everything is going better with Dixie now. :)

When i picked Pixie up from her breeder last weekend she said to me..'you do realise she will be too small to breed from'? so i said...'yes of course...we will be getting her spayed'.. my breeder was NOT happy when i said that and proceeded to tell me the risks of putting such a tiny dog under an anaesthetic and told me her friend had lost a dog while having teeth pulled. I don't think pixie will be much over 3lbs as an adult so i'm not going to take the risk..i'm just too scared of losing her...she will only be put under anaesthesia if absolutley necessary. I wanted to get her spayed because my last yorkie, Heidi, developed mammary cancer later in life and i was told that if she had been spayed when she was younger she would have been less at risk.

Now I'm afraid to have Penny spayed. I'm going to find a vet that will keep her overnight.

I'VE SEEN TOO MANY DOGS DIE AS VETS WENT HOME TO COME BACK THE NEXT MORN TO DEAD DOG.... When Mic was so ill last winter I told my vet to take him home with her if she though she needed to.. He was on IV's and spent 5 days in the hospital... As to the anistesiea... I've seen dogs go under to come out with brain damage... I've seen dogs go under who's ears stood perfectly before hand to have them fall... I've been breeding my dogs for over 20 yrs now and I have just found someone whom I think I can trust a little... It's so scary.. You just don't know how the yorkshire or any tinny dog will react to anisetics..
