If a breeder does not for any reason have the AKC papers to give along with the buyer, then there should be a reciept or contract stating how much was paid for the puppy AND there should be a statement on that paperwork for the buyer to take home with the puppy stating that AKC ( or Canadian Kennel Club in Canada) registration papers will be provided.
On my contract when selling a puppy, I also list the registration numbers and registered names of sire and dam and litter registration number of the puppy. Here in Canada we are required to tattoo or microchip any dog or puppy before it leaves our premises and the tattoo number is also listed on the contract so the buyer knows exactly which puppy they are getting.
Anybody buying a puppy sold as registered wtih AKC or Canadian Kennel Club registered papers should expect to get a receipt or contract with this information on it before you fork over your money.
Without this info, you have no recourse and AKC and Canadian Kennel Club cannot help you, it becomes a he said/she said with nothing in writing to verify even where you got the dog.
That 's why this is one more reason buying through the Internet unless you know the breeder very well is a bad idea, as you don't have the one on one contact with the breeder to be sure everything is in place. |
