I had my daily dose of Depression! 2 Attachment(s) On my way to work today I stopped at PetsPlus to see if they have the raw frozen food that Kalina loves so much. I've never been there before, I thought it was a PetCo or PetSmart type place. THEY SELL PUPPIES!!! I saw a little Yorkie that was on a mat and the holes in the mat (see Cavalier picture) were big enough that he couldn't walk without his feet getting stuck with each step. He looked healthy, his pic is attached, but it was so pathetic. He was trying to play with me thru the glass. They also had this little Cavalier, and he was just adorable. I noticed that he was born the same time as Kalina, who will be 5 months tomorrow. So, here's my Kalina with about a zillion toys and heaven only knows how many admirers vying for her attention, who went from her breeder's loving arms to my welcoming arms, and this little guy who has spent 5 months in a cage!! OMG, heartbreaking. He looked at me with those big eyes and I just couldn't handle it. I had to leave. Of course I never would buy even a can of food from that place. The Yorkie came from a puppymill from Amish country in PA and the Cavalier came from a puppymill from Amish country in OHIO. He has been reduced for quick sale to $899! I wonder what happens to him if no one buys him??? The Yorkie was $3,000. Here are their pics. |
Ugh....now I am crying. Why oh why does there have to be puppymills?!!:( I know why but I wish that these poors dogs knew what it is SUPPOSE to be like...not live this sort of life! The Cavalier looks so sad OK,now I am crying again.... |
This is sooo sad and so cruel. I dont see how people live their lives doing this to dogs. that puppy has probably never been truely played with or loved and its soo sad. |
It's sad to see pet stores selling puppies like this! |
We went to the beach a month or so ago. I saw a pet shop and we went in. There were 8-10 windows full of puppies. I was so shocked. I am 37 yrs old and I have never seen puppies in a pet shop before. I was amazed that they had no shame. The other customers in the store didnt seem to have any bad feelings about the puppies, they were just oooh and ahhh. I really want to do more to get out the word about pet stores and puppymills. I dont think the general public understands the problem. |
So So sad:( I wish they could shut down evry puppy mill there is:( but we all know thats never going to happen:mad: sorry you had to start your day like this:( I have never been to a store that sells puppys, I stay far away from them, knowing how my heart would break and i would want to take them all home with me. Hugs to you and may your day get brighter:) |

Ok, that is SAD. Soooo sad. Just looking at their pictures made me want to burst out in tears  That little Yorkie is soooooooo CUTE. I absolutely LOVE it's little face. He/she has the exact same type of face that I'd pick :( MAN! Soo cute  And the other little sweetie (the Cavalier) just looks sooo sad and depressed :( God, that poor little thing. This is just so, so awful. And $3,000 for the Yorkie - SHEESH. P.S. - How did you find out which Puppymills they came from? |

He looks so sad and depressed. Poor baby. :( :( |
I try SO hard not to read posts such as this one because it just breaks my heart and I find that I can't get the pictures out of my head. I find myself wandering back to it over and over again and the tears just begin to fall even harder. BUT....... I have often spoken out regarding the puppy mills and I try to educate those that I know who might consider buying from a pet store, or an unreputable breeder online. I beg them, please...DO YOUR HOMEWORK! It's a huge conundrum on how we can shut these puppy mills down, because everyone wants to save that poor puppy that is sitting all alone, in that cage, in the store, or stacked outside. But the only way I can see that happening is if you cut it off at the source. Just don't buy it. Walk away from that Pet store that is trying to beckon you in with your sympathy. You have to remember that if you buy that puppy ....many, MANY more will suffer. If the money stops coming in to these places ...they will have no alternative but to stop selling. It makes me just want to gather up my furbabies and just luv em up soooo much! :ghug: |
oh just reading that makes me sooooooo sad! There is a local pet store here that sells puppies, and I found out that they get their puppies from local reputable breeders (which makes me happy at least) and all there puppies area always $1399. no more, not usually less. Still a bit pricey but not $3,000. Anyways when I go in there occassionally the pups all look soooo happy! The employees let them out all day long in shifts, small ones together, medium ones and large ones.... they are in a room that is sectioned off from the rest of the store so they dont have a million faces staring at them all day long! And their bedding is always clean and the room smells like clean dogs. I mean it smells like dog... but not like 3 day old pee & poop. I wish there were more pet stores like that out there! :( |
:2omg:  :unlove: :crying: :thumbdown |
That is so sad! And it makes me ever more sad cause i used to have a Cavalier and he looks like him so much! :( |
This is so sad...:( |

So sad! Before I got Lola (from a breeder), I wanted a dog for over a year and visited a couple Pet stores (before I knew) and always left feeling SO sorry for all of the dogs and very down. My boyfriend told me I was no longer allowed to visit them b/c it would leave me depressed for days afterward. I decided I would never support a place like that! Argh...it makes me angry. |
The same thing happened to me. I went into a shop thinking it was a pet supply store and it was not. They sold dogs and all of the dogs were all in one kennel and they had 8 other kennels open. This made me sick and oh so sad. I contacted our Humane Society and they contacted the Health department. I just do not get how people can treat animals like that. |
This should be reported to your local Human Ass'n. - they CANNOT house these pups in situations where they could break their legs. If his leg pops through those holes, that is TERRIBLY dangerous and would be neglect. He could snap it 2 in an instant. PLEASE report this. |

How do we educate the world about pet store puppies!?? It's an overwhelming job. I too once bought 2 puppies from a pet store - I was 23 and didn't know any better. I did get lucky, they were from champion bloodlines, but it still confuses me how any breeder with champion bloodline puppies would sell to a pet store! |
