Yea i guess.. i'm going to start calling th police tomorrow. about 2 weeks ago we had a speed thing for a day.. i.m deffinatly going to make sure i raise awareness.. and hopefully with the help of one of my neighbors (she has been down to city hall numerous times trying to get soemthing done about this) it was her son who went after the person who ran over the dog.. he is also the one who has stepped in front of speeding cars and thrown little pebbles at them.. i was just thinking about using my phone or a video camera to start taping people.. the other thing that would reduce speeding is stop signs at every small intersection.. which is pretty close to each other. |

oh it makes me so mad when people bring their dogs out w/o a leash on a busy road! I was watching my friends kid (my ex's neice) and she was like 8 years old at the time and I lived on a SUPER BUSY road! well we were walking to the store and this TINY pug came dashing across the street to 'meet' us! He got hit 1/2 way across and I ran out and picked him up and brought him to my side but it was too late, he was doi (dead on impact) and my neice was DEVASTATED!!! Crying and sooo upset and the owner (some young punk) comes running over from the other side of the street, and he kept saying 'my wife is going to kill me, just KILL ME" I was saying to him "are you an idiot??? This is a BABY!! You dont bring it outside without a leash on THIS road!!!!!" Oh I was sooooooo ANGRY and upset I was shaking!!! I called the police to call animal control and they came and took away the baby! It was a 3 month old Pug!!! Bet you that hubby got couch duty for about oooohhh a few weeks for SURE!!! Its soooooo sad!!! |

I pray the dog is going to be alright & got to the vet! Everybody is in a hurry. But speeding in neighborhoods is ridiculous. Contact the police, the city council and the media. One of my girlfriends successfully got a stop sign put up in her neighborhood with the smallest effort. Read what your city requires. The more neighbors you get behind you the better. Perhaps you could even work to get the speed limit dropped to 25 mph in your neighborhood. Also, call your city councilperson at home & make them aware of it going on - this is their job - you are not bothering them! I live on a busy neighborhood street - it lays between 2 main arteries of my city - actually both these other streets reach out into the suburbs to the east & west. The speed on my street is 30 mph which makes no sense, because the next street over is 25 mph & has plenty of stop signs, while there is only 1 stop sign on my street between the 2 main arteries. I ought to work on getting it lowered because I can't believe how fast people drive and I remember a decade ago - when I raised Bichons and knew nothing about Yorkies, I saw one of the little yorkies that a gal 2 blocks down had, laying dead on the parking in front of her house evidently killed by a car. Does your police department have those mobile units that tell drivers how fast they are going? I see people slow down when they see those units. Get the police department to put one on your street for a week or two & video tape people as was suggested earlier. Call the police & ask to speak with someone in the traffic department - that's who handles speeders. Also, I work in the media - that's a good place to turn to. Media outlets are suffering these days - they are all looking for the local story to get people reading or tuned in. Speeders are definitely that type of story because people are passionate about others not speeding in their neighborhoods. One of our local TV stations did this entire feature this spring called SOS - Stop Our Speeders - they actually asked viewers to email them with speeding problems, they mapped all the neighborhood problems in the city & gave some viewers speed guns to go out & clock the speeders with. Then they got the police involved. If you want to see/read some of the reports here are two links: http://www.kcci.com/news/13294227/detail.html http://www.kcci.com/news/13302192/detail.html Also here is video link to part of the report that includes suggestions from a police officer on what to do about speeders: http://www.kcci.com/video/13303213/index.html Good luck hon! |

My little chihuahua Years ago, my pet doggie, was in the yard, she managed to get out through the gate, and ran into the street! Poor little thing didnt even know what hit her! This huge car ran over her and of course when the neighbors yelled out my name I came running out and saw my pet in the road dead. I felt dead to the world, I should have had her on a leash, she was so tiny. But the guy that hit her didnt even stop, kept on going like he ran over a can or something! :thumbdown |
Our city did a survey on streets that get a lot of complaints in regards to speeders. Those streets now have speed bumps every few yards and nobody wants to use them now because you have to drive too slow. It's wonderful! And when new complaints come in, they do those roads also. It's an on-going thing. Maybe they'll get rid of all the speeders that want to cut through out little city to get somewhere quick. Guess they'll have to stick to the larger thoroughfares. :( :D I'll have to ask my daughter-in-law how that got the city's attention to get it done. She's a police officer for our city so maybe there's an inside scoop. |

i wish we could make the street private with speed bumps.. my mom just came back from my neighbors.. it ended up being some young punk who got scared.. the police were called.. the father went after him before anyone realized it.. i felt bad i didnt recognize the dog because it was my new neighbors new dog.. hes going to be fine.. the vet was horrible.. though its right down the street from me so its close but his first question was whose paying? so that annoyed me.. here are the numbers to the department or public safety (18002230933) its toll free and the polic non-emergency (9783731212) if anyone could call either or both of these numbers and mention the speeding problem in bradford MA especially around cedardale one boston rd and oxford ave i'd really appreciate it! |
