If you go to the AKC website Liver/Tan is not even an option under the colors. I know that when I registered Diesel 2 years ago liver/tan wasn't an option then. Just make sure that you aren't paying an arm and leg for chocolates. I wouldn't pay more than 6 or 700 tops for one. I have seen a few choclolates that were simply adorable. From my understanding (i am no expert lol) Choclates shouldn't be bred because the color is a fault. That being said if you find a Chocolate that tugs at your heart by all means scoop them up and take them home. lol |
To answer your questions, a chocolate yorkie is nothing more than a yorkie with a color abnormality. Doesn't mean they aren't really Yorkies, doesn't mean they are sickly. You are correct--pups should not be placed until they are older. 7-8 weeks is too young, even if they are healthy, even if they are weaned, is still TOO YOUNG! Because of all the factors you've mentioned, I would be very cautious about this 'breeder.' The things you have stated are not exactly aspects that ethical, respected breeders flaunt or stive for or practice.:) |
I love to see all the pics of all colors:D everyones babies are so cute:D I dont know a thing about colors:rolleyes: mine are tan/black and now molly looks like she is will be silver:) heck give me a purple yorkie and im happy;) |
I have to disagree here... If everyone keeps breeding off color yorkies then the standard Yorkie as we know it won't be around. Biewers are different. There is a standard for them. Soon you will see them registered by AKC. |
there are some beautiful yorkies owned by YT members on here that are white, parti or chocolate, they in no way 'ruin' the yorkie breed. There will be many people on this site that will tell you they would love to own one. to say breeding them and owning one spoils the breed makes you sound narrow minded. It always seems to be the same as soon as someone mentions parti or chocolate yorkies someone always leaps in and tries to spoil the thread by spilling out the same old stuff about 'shouldn't be bred' 'spoiling breed' etc if you feel you are talking to a brick wall, please continue to do so i'm sure it will be far more interested than members on here who are just here to gain info and help and share pics of all our beautiful babies in ALL their different shapes sizes and colours. |
You have your opinion and I and others have our own. We will have to agree to disagree because I am not willing participate in a heated argument. I have been around the board long enough to know that it serves no purpose and just makes you look silly. |

There are a lot of varying and quite strong opinions on this and it comes up now and them. You are new and so not aware but fortunately for the most part our members are able to discuss it without being accusing and disrespectful. I'm not sure if that is how you are used to getting your point across but it probably wont work here.;) |
Try to change your thinking and think of the different colors as the wave of the future in which the Yorkie standard will become enriched with COLOR! |

I know!!! Just trying to make ya smile :D |
choc I think I was the one disrespected by being called narrow-minded. But breeding "odd" colored yorkies is what it is and the Yorkie will never be "enriched" with color, unless its steel blue and shaded tan. If I came off as rude or hostile, sorry.I didnt know that !!!!! was being rude. The AKC standard is what breeders are supposed to strive for. Or so I thought before I looked at YT. I least the person buying the Choc is not paying 5 arms and 10 legs. |
chocolate To the original poster ...if you like the chocolate yorkie, go for it! now 6-7 weeks old for new homes , it's too young , I would be concern right there. the price of $600 I think is great....make sure the puppy looks happy and healthy and if they can give you some sort of health warranty to at least until it gets checked by a vet. I myself stick to the AKC standard but respect other breeders no matter what their beliefs are or breeding program they have . :) Good Luck |
