Barkbusters
 
Hi,

We enrolled our Lily in Barkbusters. Wonderful, wonderful. The $500 is for the lifetime of the dog.

Highly recommend.

Is anyone going to the yorkie specialty in Denver?

Coby's problems aren't that drastic. Maybe they could spend an hour and only charge me half price! ;)

I started a thread in the "training" section for this same questions a few months ago. That might give you more answers. I would be careful about using Bark Busters because it is a franchise. You would have no idea how the trainer in your area actually is and if they even stay totally true to Bark Busters. The reason I was looking into it for Ellie is because the reps in this area come very highly recommended by Ellie's vet office. A couple of the vets in there have used them. I decided not to go with them for now because they are so expensive and because I won't stop letting Ellie on the furniture. I would not hesitate if I had a big, out-of-control dog. Anyway, here are some of the answers I got when I called them.

Do you have to keep dog off furniture? Yes, for five weeks and then you can invite them up when YOU want them there.

How much is it? It would have been $495 for us because Ellie is 6 and they figure they would have to come back less than if she was a puppy.

Do you use any shock collars? No, nothing of the sort.

Thanks. I did a YT search on Barkbusters but didn't run across your thread. I'll look again to see if I can find that one too.

You could try separating the words Bark Busters. That is how I wrote it.

I hired Barkbuster a few months ago, and she was great. My problem was that I bought a small male yorkie who was extremely fearful. He would freak out if me or anyone else went near him. He seemed to be afraid of hands, if he saw your hands coming near him he would cringe and begin to cry. I wanted a behavorist to look at the situation and give me an idea how to approach him to make him feel safe. I hired her for an hour and in that hour she was able to assess his behavor and tell me what I needed to do. It was well worth it. I started to see a difference immediately.

That's terrific!! I hope he's doing great by now. Thanks for the info.

We decided to use Bark Busters after our vet recommended them to us and, so far, have been really happy with the training. We have only had 2 sessions and we are taking it slowly (at the recommendation of the trainer) since our puppy is only 5 months old. I look at it as teaching our puppy to have good manners and I have really seen a difference in the past month. The trainer in our area is great so I echo what others have said about the effectiveness of the training being dependent on the trainer in your area. I really like that the sessions are unlimited for the life of the dog. Our trainer said he can even come back when we have kids to help the dog acclimate to having a little one around! Also, if you relocate to another city, the contract is good with any of their trainers. Most big cities have a BB trainer in the area.
