Has Anyone Heard Of BARKBUSTERS? My hubby and I went to the store today and saw this van with a ton of colorful graphics promoting Barkbusters (an Austrailian based in home dog training system). The van was so "memorable" that I came home and looked it up. The do have trainers in my area, so I wondered if anyone had ever heard of them before??? www.barkbusters.com We're going to enroll Coby in puppy kindergarten, and I was going to start getting recommendations. Their video sounds like it's somewhat in the vein of Cesar Milan type philosophy. They don't list their prices, but the training comes with a LIFETIME GUARANTEE. The web site also has a quiz on rating your dog A-F. My older one is great but because he is getting more snarly, he got a C. And because Coby is still an over-excited puppy, he got a C also. I don't wanna have "average" dogs - lol |
I have never heard of them, but I took the quiz. Susanah got a D. :( It was better than I expected. I was expecting an F- or worse. I guess she could use some puppy kindergarten too. |

There was an unruly yorkie in the promotional video. |
I emailed them when I first got Scruffles and if I recall, they quoted me a price of $500 or $600. |

Izzy scored a 50 which is a B but in my book more like a B-....hahahaha.....we just finished up Clicker training for puppies and now end of month going for Clicker II and then on to tricks and fun. My only challenge is with the potty training - and barking...but we'll work on that. I can't comment on the price....since I have nothing to compare it to but our first 6 week training session was $150 and then all others are 4 weeks at $95. If that helps..... |
Both my girls got "C" and Harley got a "D". But I noticed that some of the things that they make a dog down for are things that we love about our Yorkies. We love that they ask us to play, bring us a toy. We allow our babies on the furniture. All I know is that we have trained our dogs, so I guess I get a C and D!! |

I have an Australian friend with a boxer. She was having the worst time with her dog and called Bark Busters for a private consult. In two hours, the guy had the dog totally under control. They had to keep up with the things he taught them. She said that dog was going to a shelter if this didn't work. She swears by them. Says it was worth every penny. |
Cody got a score of 48 which is a B Dogs in this category are typically wonderful family dogs with a few rough edges. This dog could easily move to the "A" grade with some training. |
Barkbusters Hi, We enrolled our Lily in Barkbusters. Wonderful, wonderful. The $500 is for the lifetime of the dog. Highly recommend. Is anyone going to the yorkie specialty in Denver? Sharon |

Coby's problems aren't that drastic. Maybe they could spend an hour and only charge me half price! ;) |
I started a thread in the "training" section for this same questions a few months ago. That might give you more answers. I would be careful about using Bark Busters because it is a franchise. You would have no idea how the trainer in your area actually is and if they even stay totally true to Bark Busters. The reason I was looking into it for Ellie is because the reps in this area come very highly recommended by Ellie's vet office. A couple of the vets in there have used them. I decided not to go with them for now because they are so expensive and because I won't stop letting Ellie on the furniture. I would not hesitate if I had a big, out-of-control dog. Anyway, here are some of the answers I got when I called them. Do you have to keep dog off furniture? Yes, for five weeks and then you can invite them up when YOU want them there. How much is it? It would have been $495 for us because Ellie is 6 and they figure they would have to come back less than if she was a puppy. Do you use any shock collars? No, nothing of the sort. |

You could try separating the words Bark Busters. That is how I wrote it. |
I hired Barkbuster a few months ago, and she was great. My problem was that I bought a small male yorkie who was extremely fearful. He would freak out if me or anyone else went near him. He seemed to be afraid of hands, if he saw your hands coming near him he would cringe and begin to cry. I wanted a behavorist to look at the situation and give me an idea how to approach him to make him feel safe. I hired her for an hour and in that hour she was able to assess his behavor and tell me what I needed to do. It was well worth it. I started to see a difference immediately. |

We decided to use Bark Busters after our vet recommended them to us and, so far, have been really happy with the training. We have only had 2 sessions and we are taking it slowly (at the recommendation of the trainer) since our puppy is only 5 months old. I look at it as teaching our puppy to have good manners and I have really seen a difference in the past month. The trainer in our area is great so I echo what others have said about the effectiveness of the training being dependent on the trainer in your area. I really like that the sessions are unlimited for the life of the dog. Our trainer said he can even come back when we have kids to help the dog acclimate to having a little one around! Also, if you relocate to another city, the contract is good with any of their trainers. Most big cities have a BB trainer in the area. Feel free to PM me for more specific information or with any questions. |
