All parents need to teach their young children to be gentle and respectful around animals..unfortunatly alot don't...and that includes my own sister..she has a 2 year old and she tortured my Staffy when we were there a couple of weeks ago..and they are getting a Yorkie for their eldest daughters 14th birthday next month..don't get me started on this one!!! lol:eek:
They are going to need to teach her to be respectful around this dog..but i fear all that will happen is the 2 year old will get yelled at and pushed away from the pup..which will make her even more determined to get her hands on it..and believe me she is a VERY strong willed child! and if she won't leave the pup alone it will either get shut in the garden or it's crate...:(

Ughh, No you can't. Good parents just don't leave their children with "anyone".:rolleyes: especially to go clothes shopping. I have no family here and NO ONE that I would trust my children with so my kids go shopping with me... no matter what kind of store it is.....wow that is shocking huh?

And...? it IS a normal thing to take your children shopping with you....not that normal to take your dog clothes shopping.

If the children were "bothering" you and your dog in a CLOTHING STORE that bad, why didn't you mention this to the PARENTS? Tell them you don't appreciate the girls following you around bothering your dog.

WOW.......after reading this whole thread, Im thinking this is NOT the place for me......my 2 children are my WORLD and to get a babysitter to run to the store is absolutely ridiculous to me.....this poster said she takes her dog nearly everywhere she went except for grocery stores and restraunts.....as much as I love our new little yorkie, Im sure that there are places and people that would not appreciate me bringing him everywhere........apparently you dont have children Im guessing? Your dog is to you what our children are to us.......and if I got a sitter EVERY TIME i had to run out, Id be broke! Sitters cost money.....they dont come free! Again.......Im amazed after reading this thread!

HI all. reading this thread. I was wondering what places you can take you'r babes in? I know not grocery & restrants but like K-mart Wall mart? Or what other places? & also. If you do have them with you and you do have to go into a grocery store what do you do with the babe,? I live near a tiny town with no stores so when I go to town (big city):D I have to do all my errands when I'm there. I just got Megan 4 weeks ago & would like to have ideas. Thanks.:aimeeyork

I don't know about K-mart but Walmart and Target does not allow dogs. I've never had a problem taking Lacy anywhere else - the mall, pottery painting, Home Depot, Hobby Lobby, Joanne Fabric, Tuesday morning, Ross, TJ Max, and so many other places...just can't think of a lot of them right now. I have had to sneak her into Walmart and Target a couple times. I have a carrier that just looks like a big purse and no one has ever noticed. I don't like sneaking her in but if I have to I will. I try not to take her to places I know she isn't allowed though.

That's awesome! Hopefully they'll listen to you and realize a toy breed is not right for their home at this time

Why are you amazed at this thread? Most of the members here think of their yorkie as their child, including me. There are a lot of members on her that also have children and still think of their dog as their child as well. No I do not have children and don't plan to. I never said parents should get a sitter everytime they need to run out somewhere - someone else made the comment that they couldn't leave their children at home and I just said that they could get a sitter - obviously not all the time but if they know their child won't behave in a situation, why not? You said that some people might not appreciate you bringing your dog with you - well, you aren't ever going to get approval from everyone for anything you do. My dog is my baby and I should be able to take her anywhere I want, as long as it doesn't violate health codes. I never said I had a problem with well-behaved children either - I have a problem with the ones that are not disciplined - the ones that run around, scream, throw fits, missbehave, and their parents don't do anything about it. What about the people that don't appreciate having to be around these undisciplined kids? Not everyone likes children - I don't mind being around well-behaved kids, but it just makes me nervous and irritated when kids are running around causing chaos. You know, I have actually seen signs on some places before that said NO CHILDREN so children don't always have to be allowed in stores either. There are just too many parents letting their kids run wild - maybe they aren't causing too much harm when they're five but what's going to happen to them in 10 years?? I'm really afraid to see how a lot of these kids are going to turn out... As I've said earlier, I am very impressed when I see well-behaved children and parents that teach their kids discipline and good manners. We need more parents like these out there.

While I don't agree with this thread, I'm gonna take a chance here and cut MyFairLacy a little slack. I'm wondering if we were all best girlfriends and she would have said "they were such brats" while rolling her eyes, we would have just laughed good naturedly. Sometimes we just plain ol' vent here without the passion that is implied, but it can be taken out of that context since we don't really know each other that well.

And if she wasn't just venting, I think the good thing about forums like this is that you can share different opinions and often change each other's opinions by sharing experiences and information.

Please don't let this scare you away. Let it empower you to share opposing opinions.

I definitely agree about the opinions. I love forums because while we all have a love for yorkies here, we all have different opinions. I always hate to see someone get bashed on some threads (especially on a different forum i get on) for having a different opinion than the majority - I don't like when it turns into a knock-down-drag-out.. I definitely don't mind a debate though - and I don't mind seeing different opinions. I mean for instance, Some people feed kibble, some homecook, some feed raw - some people dress their yorkies and some don't, some people enjoy being around kids and some don't. Don't let differing opinions scare you away. I don't hate kids or anything like that - I mainly have a problem with parents not teaching their kids good manners and good behavioral skills and it can be very annoying to those that aren't really kid people to have to deal with kids missbehaving and parents not doing anything to stop it.

I actually run into a problem more with myself than Sadie. You've (the original poster) met me and know what I look like. I can't tell you how many times I go into places and have kids follow me, stare, point, laugh, etc. It doesn't bother me as long as the parents correct them (tell them it's not polite to do such) but when the parents ignore what they're doing, I get annoyed. I realize that I am different and most kids have never seen someone like me, however I believe that adults should know better and should teach their kids the proper way to behave around someone who is different. (I actually had a kid once that was so interested in me that he...yes he...kept looking under the dressing room door just to see me...I had to go find a store employee to make him stop). Please don't anyone take this wrong...I love kids...and I'm in NO WAY saying all kids are bad. I'm just saying I can kind of understand where she's coming from in that SOME parents let their kids do whatever & don't try to correct them. Most parents will correct their kids and teach them proper manners, but there are those out there that just don't. I will also add that I do think that when we take our dogs into places we have to expect a lot of attention, though.
