Some People!...
 

I need to vent...I haven't been feeling well for a couple weeks (migraines and a sinus thing), but finally last night it cooled down a bit from the 95 degree weather we've been having, and I felt a little better too, so I decided to take Emma and Milli for a walk. So, we head out, and after about 10 minutes out, we see two women talking in a neighbor's front yard. As always, they say "ooooh, yorkies, can I see them," etc. And of course, Milli is already going right up to them because she can't resist the baby voice, while Emma being shy and snotty :) is trying to hang back with me (but not really, since they were on a coupler).

One lady said that she had a yorkie a few years ago, and that she really loved yorkies. I "introduced" Emma and Milli, and I expected the conversation to go in the normal direction (how old are they, are they siblings, blah blah as usual), but it took a turn. :thumbdown She commented on their size, saying that her yorkies was "much MUCH smaller", to which I answered "oh really? Well, these guys fit right in the size range-Emma, the larger one is about 6 pounds, and Milli is about 4. Yorkies are supposed to be between 4 and 7 pounds, but some stay smaller and some are larger. I love them both for their personalities!" trying to make the conversation better. But she pressed on-and had the nerve to ask me "They just seem big to me, and they're SO dark on their bodies. Are you SURE they're pure yorkies?" I answered that they were, and that I had seen their parents, and that both of them were indeed pure yorkie. I tried again to turn it to a positive/funny conversation so we could get out of there, and babbled about how they definitely act like yorkies-chasing things, wanting to be pampered, and how they are impossible to potty train, but she wouldn't let it go. She told me that maybe I should check into that, to see if they were really purebred, because she thought my breeder switched one of their parents, and told me they were purebred when in reality the daddy was not!

I couldn't believe this! I should have told her they didn't have the same parents, or told her to stay out of my business or something, but instead, I just said that we had to go, and we went home. That lady totally ruined our walk :( I didn't even want to continue on with them last night after talking to her, for fear of running into some other idiot I didn't have patience for!

I know my dogs are both pure yorkie, and I would love them both the same even if they weren't. I'm not questioning that, but WHY OH WHY do people have the nerve to tell others stuff like that, and why do they care?!? It baffles me!

Well your babies look ALL yorkie to me, some people are just so rude. I get it about Ben sometimes, If they continue to ignore me then I just walk away.

Girl you already know how people are... u just gotta ignore ignorant comments like that.

Well, obviously that woman is a total twit, because Yorkies are SUPPOSED to have dark bodies:rolleyes: What a witch to be commenting on your babies in such a negative way. If she does it again, maybe you can ask if her Yorkie ran away because she's so horrible:laugh:

Don't let ignorant people upset you. I would have been gone after the size comment.

Thanks guys, you made me feel a little better. I KNOW that her opinion means NOTHING, obviously she's less educated in the arena of yorkies than I am, but it still really hotted me off! Makes me not want to walk by there anymore!

Right-and I think I said something about it in my fumbling to get out of there-Milli's still a puppy at 8 months, and will probably change colors over the next year or so, and Emma is a cotton coat, so I think she'll stay that way.

I should have just called her a "twit" in a British accent and walked off! I would have giggled all the way home! I wish I could think of these things at the time instead of later!

Ignorance is bliss! You should have directed her to YT for some yorkie education because it's obvious that this woman knows NOTHING of the breed!

Or, you could have told her that they were actually a mixture of Yorkie and Great Dane, and then walked away. That would have left her with her mouth hanging open, trying to figure out how that could be done!

When people are acting stupid, it's good to have fun with them if you can stay composed and not let them upset you.

As the saying goes " you can't fix stupid"!

Don't let other people bother you at all! As long as you know what Emma and Milli are, that's all that counts. :)

There will always be some people that want to try to put you down, don't let it get to you at all. You were very courteous and polite, don't feel bad you didn't say anything mean to her. Next time maybe you should just tell someone like that to do some research on Yorkies on the Internet, as there are Yorkies of all sizes, shapes, and colors!

HAHAHAHAHA. i agree!! When people are ignorant and rude, i'll say something sarcastic, it makes them feel really stupid!! And it gets to them even more, when you could care less!! I just can't stand how some people always think they are right and how they don't think before they speak!! some people i swear.. ENJOY your weekend!!

I SHOULD have! That would have thrown her through a loop, in the middle of Iowa, of all places! Everything sounds so perfect, polite, and intelligent when said with a British accent. (Please take this a compliment, UK YT members, and not the other way!)

Ahh, Suzy, don't let people get you down, you know Emma and Milli are both pure yorkies. I think people like that are just jealous that you have these cute little dogs and they don't:)

Actually, I do refer many people that have questions or have yorkies to this site, but only the friendly ones. ;)

I bet if you felt better, you wouldn't have let the woman get to you. Things always bother you more when you don't feel well and patience is at a low.

I run into people like that too, and I just smile and say I have to go. I don't bother to keep listening or talking to them because they're just very uneducated about the breed, and their opinions don't matter to me anyway because I don't even know them.:)

Oh, Martha! I know both my furgirls are all yorkie-no question in my mind there!

You're right...I'm sure she was jealous, probably even more so that others are, since she had a yorkie at one time. She probably forgot what they looked like since it had been awhile. I should have told her to do some research on them if she was interested in the different sizes and colors, and left it at that!

Thank you!!! You're right-it's always worse when you're not feeling right. Usually I let stuff like that roll off my back, and give them a :rolleyes: and a :p for good measure!

I just thought of a GREAT comeback to her, too bad (or probably for the good) that I didn't use it....but I'll share it with you all! When she said that that her yorkie was much smaller and much lighter in color, I should have said, "Are you sure? Or could it be that you're just much bigger and much blinder now?" :p :p :D

You could always suggest her reading "Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies" and let her know it's full of information on the breed for misinformed people on the breed, and make sure you say it with a smile...;)

That is a good one! I will remember that for the next idiot I come across...and I even have the book ;) so I can offer to bring it right on over!

I would have thanked her for pointing out the fact my Yorkies were oversized and asked her what she would suggest I do...put them to sleep because they were a bit over the standard weight limit...

Why are you allowing a total stranger, who is obviously an idiot, have so much control over your emotions?

I didn't feel well, and the whole day was off...and it was worse that I was trying to get around it, and turn the conversation better, but she kept bringing it down.

I KNOW she's an idiot, but it still pissed me off. I would never say something like that to someone, especially someone I didn't know, and then continue to press the issue.

Anyway, I'm over it now. Just wanted to vent! I know many of you have been through the same thing.
