Boy or Girl? Hi everyone! I was wondering how you all decided on which gender of Yorkie to adopt? I had originally wanted a little boy, but when I went to look at a little girl the other day, she was sooo precious and adorable that I've been thinking of maybe getting a female instead. I've also been looking at cute little dresses and that makes me want to get a girl too lol. For those of you who have both, what are the major differences you find between the two? Is there a certain gender that generally seems more calm/laid back or more hyper and active? |
I like boys. Boys are always less stressful than girls for me lol. I found out when i got a Yorkie that girls have a menstrual cycle, Its funny to be surrounded by dogs growing up and then not knowing that someone was cleaning up after our female dogs. Back then we were too poor to even think of spaying or neutering. My first and last choice would be a boy... plus if i owned a girl i know i would be in debt buying all kinds of harness dresses for her. |

I think personality traits doesn't have to do with the gender...it's just about the individual dog. My male was very much up under me. Lulu is very attentive to mamma too but I guess being a boy he was forever wanting to be up under me. I have enjoyed both sexes. I do love love Lulu because she is such a tomboy and I can dress her up when I want. Either way I would say to just go with your heart and pick the pup that responds best to you when you go and spend time with the litter. |
I read somewhere that girls can be more stubborn and therefore harder to train, which was part of the reason I wanted a boy. But omg there's sooo many cute stuff for girls! But you do have a point, I think I'd spend waaay too much money on little outfits and cute pink things lol. I also like how girls squat to pee instead of lifting their leg up lol. Quote:

HI & Welcome:) I have 2 of each, My way to explain might sound a little weird but, my girls are like my daughters and my boys are like my sons:) I just love them all, I started with a boy, then a girl, another boy, then a surprise little girl:D :D :D Good luck to you:) I was probably no help:rolleyes: |
I liked having a female so I went out and bought another. I have taken care of a male overnight and I didn't like how he lifted his leg and peed on my stuff. I was also pregnant at the time and just couldn't handle it. It just depends on the dog, they all have their own personalities. :) |
Jack and I have one each.....Seth and Sasha I could never tell anyone which gender to get we love them both and they BOTH have their moments good and bad  :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I read in more than a couple books that the males match better with a female humans who is in charge and a female dog to a Man. I since have seen this in my community as i started paying attention. So I chose a boy...didnt take the first one I chose...waited for another litter...h e seemed sickly after a couple visits and calls to my vet. Anyway as it got close to him comming homw , I thought i made a big mistake....I have two sons and I am a girlie girl and this could be my chance.....What was I thinking. My husband is not thrilled about the bows I have & a couple sweat shirts. I think I saved money ...I would have went crazy. My new baby and I connected immediatly and he is drwan to me over the other ones from the beginning. I hear the menstral cycle is not that big of a deal and not often and if you plan to spay them ...well there you go. My 15 wk old already humps....lovely. But i am so glad I picked a boy. |

Like I have said one of my favorite hang outs here is the picture area... I love looking at all the lovely girls in their outfits. One of these Halloweens I will dress Ryo and his brother as girls, just so i can say I had my fun lol. Kisses! |

But Yeah I noticed That I got a lot more respect than my son does. My dog will come and ask me if he can go out or whatever, but not my son. When i first got home he pee pee's on in my sons room, but not mine... SO i think its true about what you have read. Then RYoko sleeps with my son and not me lol. |
I wanted a boy first, because their more affectionate, and then I added to who my surprise is just as affectionate. Just a little more demanding. |
I currently have two of each. My boys are extremely affectionate and very co-dependent. They follow me from room to room and were so easy to train. The girls on the other hand .... They are very independent and stubborn as they come. They run around the house and could care less about where I am whereas with the boys, all I have to do is look in my lap or down at my feet. LOL |

I sat down in the floor to play with the puppies and pick out my little girl. All of the puppies took off playing except for this one male who climbed into my lap and curled up and went to sleep. I just fell in love and instantly bonded with him! |
