Honestly I think the main ingredient is lots of patience. I do all of the same things to get their attention but mostly I take a ton of pictures. The picture in my avatar of all four pups at ten weeks old took half the day to get. I was determined to get the perfect shot and knew it could take all day. I had to take many breaks and 200 shots to get the one good photo. I wanted a photo of all four pups before they went to their new homes and I think it paid off. Good luck in your photography. |

Also - if you have a view finder - you know where you don't have to 'eyeball' the camera - try that too - I'll hold my camera down near my waist (lined up) and talk to them and just keep snapping - (with NO flash) and they fall for that trick every time cause I don't have a camera to my face:D |

really loud thats one of the sounds that work for me do you babies know Stay well? i usally just sit them there and say stay then quickly make a sound you have to be quick with the camera |
All in a row 1 Attachment(s) I use one special treat for pictures and the word 'picture' is something they love to hear! |
I use treats, wanna go bye bye, wanna go outside, daddy's home, make strange sounds, call their names - whatever it takes. Sometimes it works well, sometimes not so well. I usually take several photos for every "good" one I get!!!!! |
Penny loves to have her picture taken. She's just a ham. Piper on the other hand always puts his head down when I'm trying to get a picture. |

and tpaxton23 - this is a VERY QUICK fix of the eyes - I'm in the middle of printing and doing cards but wanted to show you in case you go try it yourself - I did all 3 except for the little black and white one on the left - you can see what I meant better by me showing it to you - if you have the tools I pm'd you about you can do this in most programs - and if not - 'gimp' (it's free) will have the same tools as photoshop I put the pics side by side - see the difference ? :) :) |
Oh Jenn....we've all been thru these photo fustrations...if only you can say sit, and say cheese lol. Here's what I do since I use Zoe a lot to model clothes... BRIBE BRIBE BRIBE BRIBE....with favorite treats and tons of praise. use something squeaky like a fav toy to get their attention, hold it right above or to the side of your camera depending on where you want them to look and adjust as needed. I've taught Zoe the wait command so that helps her understand to sit still. When they're in the pose you want, snap as many as you can using different lighting and while you are snapping away, prasie like crazy (good girl, good boy, wait etc). You can also put a treat to their nose, then pull away to the camera and they will look at the treat. With the toy though, if they look away, continue to squeak. You will find some days that they will be very uncooperative, ie, too distracted, too tired, too lazy etc. If they are slightly hungry, they will be more motivated to work for treats. Also, eliminate distractions too if you can, I close the bedroom window to the room since she gets distracted by things like voices or birds chirping. I've also noticed that depending on time of day, I get better shots and cooperation. For Zoe, that is first thing in the morning when she is full of energy. If I try after a long walk or an afternoon at a dog park, all she would want to do is slump down and go to sleep. Hope my tips help. You will find that it takes tons and tons of photos to find that 1 great photo. |
4 Attachment(s) I always have to take like 1000 pictures to get one good one! My trick is to get them tired out. It's soo much harder to take pictures with more than one though!! Make sure they're tired. And, to get them to look, I always use a whistle that I got out of a 25 cent machine. LOL They love it! (But sometimes Jack runs to me instead of just looking ) For the pics with the hats, I played with them for about an hour before we took it. I made them sit next to eachother and took about 50 pictures. LOL Then, I got the cutest candid, it looks like Rosie is kissing her brother... she's actually sniffing him. Rosie is seriously SO PHOTOGENIC. She lets me take millions if pictures of her in strange outfits doing weird things. :D And, she really doesn't care. But, Jack... I have to take like thousands for one good pic. I've included some of my best pictures of Rosie. For the one where she's got her eyes closed-- its a candid! She was sitting there, and I called her name, she looked back and blinked... and I got the pic :D For the one of her in the Christmas box, lets just say that one took about an hour to get. LOL And, a LOT of preparation. :D |
