I haven't been on YT in the longest time, but had to come on and update everyone!!

First, and foremost, let me say that little Miss Madeline is the fastest Yorkie I have EVER seen!!! Everyone that spotted her said the same thing. She was there... then she was gone!!!

Hubby left the kids on the deck while he went down the driveway to grab the Saturday morning paper. In the 2 minutes that it took, that little hussy Maddie somehow broke through the barricade (7 years here and none of my 5 have ever done it!) and took off down the street!

I heard her bark, and looked out the window. Like V said... all I could see was this hairy little heiney haulin' butt over the hill!!!

We chased her down from 9:30 until about 1... we had cars and were still always just one step behind her. We kept getting reports from all over the place and I started to think that there was another lost Yorkie in the neighborhood.

At 1 we stopped and made up flyers with her picture on it. A couple of hours and about 400 flyers later we started getting calls. By the time we could get to one location, I'd get a call from someone else a couple of streets away!!!

After a couple of hours of that cat and mouse game we finally got her less than a block away from my house!! Throughout the day she had been spotted about a mile away from my house in about 4 different directions!

Yep... she's a fast one, that Maddie is! I hear it took 24 hours to find her last August when she pulled this stunt. It took us about 12 this year... I told Megan and Teri that next year they're in for a good 6 hour dog hunt!!

She's on lockdown, now! The dog door is shut and she's only allowed supervised tethered visits to the dog run and the deck is OFF LIMITS!!!

Here she is the night before the Great Escape watching TV in the sliding glass door...

Thank god she is home safe and sound. These buggers can run like lightening. Jeeze just makes your heart stop.

And here are some shots of her getting all of the burrs cut out of her fur! Her little legs were so covered in them I can't imagine how she was able to run! We could have made another dog with all the fur I had to cut out of her. She was so exhausted that she ate and fell asleep on Megans lap while I trimmed away.

All that $$$ her Mommy had spent at the beauty shop... down the drain~

Needless to say she slept all day Sunday, too. Good thing Dublin and The Widget were there to keep an eye on her!

Oh Sherry L - I'm so glad to see you post - I know you must have lost what's left of your mind when that happened & gone crazy trying to catch her - (nice mental image I'm having by the way) - did you need the paramedics after all that running ??? :p :p

I'm so glad it had a HAPPY ending - I even wrote Megan and said I KNEW Maddie would be found - I really did know it too

they ARE Fast little turds aren't they ?? Her being in a new house probably freaked her out and that's why she ran like that - she's had an eventful year that's for sure.......

I know you're taking very good care of her and while that sucked bigtime - it ended well - and know EVERYONE knows Maddie is a Jackrabbit & can't be trusted LOL

ps...Megan doesn't look like a happy camper with her hair clippings - I bet you all were just exhausted

Oh my goodness - the title of this thread brought back some horrible, AWFUL memories :cry: :cry: :cry: I am SO GLAD to hear that there was a happy ending here!

Wow, that's a lot of hair ... I wonder how she was able to walk with so much junk around her little chicken legs. :p I'm just so glad you got her back safely and unharmed!! Meg, you better have some sort of global GPS system installed on her super fast little booty!! :D

Oh my goodness your version is like DEJAVU'.. so much like last year at my house! Unreal. She is a HUSSY! LOL

We had the same thing.. sightings,,oh we saw her but couldn't catch her, she was here. oh she's over there. She is a traveler, that's for sure. And lightning fast.

OH Sherry Lynn I know exactly how you felt.

i am so very happy you found her.

I got it figured out. Look at all that lovin' and pampering she gets when she returns. Shoot, I'd run off too!

What an emotional roller coaster! I am soooo glad you found her.

When my mom passed away, we were out of town at her funeral. My SIL was watching our pups at my house and she called saying that she couldn't find Mylan. She looked everywhere. She had her kids out knocking on doors and she was driving the car around for about 2 hours.

When she called back, she was in tears. She could hardly talked. We were preparing ourselves to hear some really bad news according to all the crying she was doing.

But they were tears of joy. She found Mylan locked up in a closet! That little toot! So now when we miss one, we look in closets first, and that's where we usually find them. :p

These pictures are excellent. Dublin and Widget have a close eye on her in both pics and poor Megan in the last pic. her face is priceless :rolleyes: maddie is a little stinker

So happy she is back safe and sound. I'll bet Maddie isn't the only one that is exhausted. Rest well:)

The little freak is back home with us now. :rolleyes: :p The rest of our vacation pretty much sucked because the weather was so nasty. My friend came down for 1 night. She had been in Europe for the last 3 1/2 weeks, and she came back with a broken arm. She fell down some steps while she was in Paris. :rolleyes: So the one day that the water was PERFECT, I didn't go in because she couldn't go in and I felt bad. haha. But that's OK. I love the beach, but I missed my little stinker.

Sherry Lynn sent her home with a new carry bag and some new clothes and hair bows. So cute! Thanks SL! Sherry Lynn, my mom, and I have it all worked out. the first time Maddie ran off it was for 24 hours, this time it was 12, next year it'll be 6, and the year after that it'll be 3. then she'll be done forever. haha.

Megan - you are SO cute ! I hope she learned her lesson but I doubt it too LOL -

I'm sorry about your vacation - the good thing about being your age is you have YEARS and YEARS to make up for it and the OTHER good thing is - you found the little freak :D :D I know how awful it would be if things didn't work out for all of you - including Sherry Lynn

Maddie is sure making lots of memories for people isn't she ? not to mention - keeping them in shape from all that running

I just wanted to pop in and say thanks for all of the prayers and good thoughts. Last year when we first got Maddie and she ran away an hour after we got her I was sure we'd never see her again. Then, once we brought her home to NJ she settled in fine and has NEVER even made an attempt to run away again. Surprise, surprise!

Sherry Lynn, great pictures! I'm so sorry she put you through that. Once she came back she found out how good things are at your house. If she runs away from here, I'll probably find her sitting on your porch, hoping you'll adopt her!

I'm re-reading this a couple of years later and I can still remember how scary that whole ordeal was...

And in all this time we haven't had an escapes since! Sweet little Maddie.
