Too big to be yorkie? 4 Attachment(s) My Snooki is a healthy 15 pounds. On these forums it appears that most people have little under 7 pound yorkies. Does anyone have a yorkie or heard of one as big, or close to the size of mine? I love his size but some people question if he is a true yorkie. I've heard that yorkshire terriers used to be bigger dogs in the past, so I like to think Snooki is an original yorkie. I think his parents were on the bigger size and he was definately a bigger puppy than all the others when we got him. What are your thoughts? Here are some pictures of him: The first one is a rather old picture of him (when he was 3) but the others are more recent. |
My boy is 8 lbs and many people on this board have what they lovingly call TEAPOTS... Just don't listen to people, people come in all shapes and sizes and so do Yorkies! |
I do own one of the smaller sice Yorkies. She was the last girl from the Litter and we fell in LOVE with her. She is 5 months now and weighs 2.2 lb. I shure hope she gets bigger and I don't care if people tell me --- ohhh my she is sooo small  - we did not pick her because of that. She picked us :D WE love her no matter what sice !!! Your Baby looks sweet - love the pic with the baseball cap. Cute :) I would not worry about it as long as he is happy. |
Oh, I'm not worried about it! I love Snooki's size! I can hug him tight without worrying about him getting hurt! Little yorkies are cute too but I think his size is perfect! :D I was just curious if anyone else has a big yorkie like me! And thank you for the responses! :D |
Awww, look at the big guy! And he looks so LOVED, too! Yes, the yorkie "standard" is seven lbs or less.....and increasingly, people are wanting them smaller and smaller. Since that is where the $$ is, lots of breeders are deliberately trying to breed them that way....frequently to the neglect of the health and safety of the dogs. :( Yes, at 15 lbs, he *would* be considered a "moster yorkie". :D But, yes again....lots of people here do have "teapots". :D So he's not the only one, by any means! :D I doubt you'll find anyone here who would revoke his "true yorkie" status. ;) I have one that is less than four lbs, and we are alllllways having to focus on not hurting her. I bet you *are* happy to have your big guy who's tough enough to take some hard lovin'! :D |
He looks all yorkie to me!! I love the picture of him wearing the hat, how cute!! Mine are all under 7 pounds (well I do have a yorkiepoo that is 10 pounds) but I have seen several bigger ones. I admit the small ones are cute but it is very nice having a bigger one because you don't have to worry as much about them getting hurt and even the bigger ones are adorable!! |
The breed standard is 5-7 lbs, but that doesn't mean there aren't some bigger and some smaller! :) Tucker is 16 lbs. I like the big guys, they're much more sturdy and I dont have to worry about him getting hurt jumping off the couch or something. |
Hi, I am the Mom of a 16 lb yorkie, a 8 lb yorkie, a 5 lb yorkie, a 4 lb yorkie and a 3 lb yorkie. (ok, so the 3 and 4 lb'ers are only 17 1/2 weeks. ) BUT they all are Yorkies just the same. Ladybug is the TEAPOT. She is a big girl as you can see in my avatar. LOVE them all just the same tho. Sonya |
my baby is 4 lbs. at 5 months. i i think he looks just like your 15 lb, baby |
Yeah, I had your same questions when my first Yorkie passed 9 pounds in his first year, but YTers set me straight. He's a registered purebred and he's all Yorkie. He's now around 10. And I wouldn't have him any other way. We also have a 4-pounder who is much more fragile. Your pup is adorable. |
My Butch is 11 lbs and we love him just like he is. He isnt fat, just healthy and sturdy. We also have a yellow lab and Butch can pretty well keep up with him. He was one of the smaller puppies in the litter, but now is the largest. I love him just the size he is and cannot imagine having a delicate baby:aimeeyork :) |
Snooki sure looks 100% yorkie to me:thumbup: . Roxy is a little over the standard and Remi is going to be close and I am glad they are the size they are. There is far less worry about them being fragile. Your little guy is a very handsome fella.:) |
Baxter is 10.5 lbs at 6 months . Vet says he thinks he's done growing. But I would not care - There's more to love. Only problem is the pooch bag I got no longer fits him lmao - he's really not a bag dog anyway though. |
I think the bigger the yorkie the better. Ours are only 4.5 lbs. I think we would not worry about them as much if they were a little bigger. Gracie and Hallee were from different litters and were the last ones from their litter. We just had good timing on both of them before they were gone. Your baby looks great! |
He looks ALL yorkie to me and very cute !! A Yorkie isn't about weight - and really - at 15 lbs - that's still a small dog any way you cut it |
