Yorkie vs. Biewer....looking for opinions.... Trying to make a very tough decision here and I would welcome any and all opinions, observations....basically anything to help me. I'm adding to our family of two....Phoebi, my yorkie is 6 and Chandler, my maltese is 5. My original choice was and still could be another yorkie girl until I came across a beautiful baby girl Biewer. I'm looking for any and all differences between the two, besides the obvious! :) I also should mention this will be a "pet home" and this baby will be spayed so the Registry is of no interest to me. I am confident in that fact that her breeder did all the necessary testing before breeding and went above and beyond to make sure this litter was healthy and sound. That being said, she could be registered at "Walmart" for all I care....:D So.....HELP!!!! (please) |
If I had the money for a biewer thats what I would get |
It's really a personal decision. I think either would be fine. I have a standard Yorkie female and a Yorkie that has a standard father and Biewer mother (so she's half and half) and I also own a male Maltese. I would LOVE to own a full Biewer. I think they are absolutely gorgeous animals and if I could have a fourth dog (which I am FORBIDDEN to do) it would be a Biewer. If you are confident with the breeder and you can afford one, I would get the Biewer. Good luck in your decision! |
i'd say go with the biewer. you're still getting a yorkie girl, just one that's a little different. plus, you already have a regular yorkie, even if he's a boy. if it matters, more people will probably want to see her, and you'll have to answer lots of question and stuff about her(not sure this is good lol) |
What a great question. I own 8 rescue Yorkies and 1 Biewer "Little Man" and I do see a difference in the 2 personalities of my crew. My Little Man is much more of a clown and wants to just play with everyone. He will share anything and I have never heard him growl but at night when he thinks the bogey man is after man.:p I have been in a room with over 10 Biewers and they were all like this with no fighting what so ever. I was surprised to see 3 showdog males getting along so great. They seem to really enjoy people and other pets. Something I cannot always say about Yorkies - they seem to be a little more aggressive at times (geez my little 4# would go after anything it seems:rolleyes: ) I love each personality of my dogs but the Biewers just seem to be a little more mello and easy going. Hope this helps you in your decision. |
My Aunt Margaret just got a 5 month old Biewer male. She says he is such a doll! He loves to give kisses and is very calm. He's getting along well with Isabelle her Yorkie. I say go with a Biewer if you can afford it! :D |
Thanks for the replies.....I've heard that they are more "mellow" and alot more "snuggly" in general. Of course every dog is different. Anyone with any health issues? |
Yorkies Are The Best. I never had the opportunity to see a biewer. I only saw pictures in Y.T. I know they are more expensive because they are different. But personally I love regular yorkies. The colour of their hair is amazing and so special (silver and gold, tan and gold...). Black and white is common. Sorry for biewer owners, they have the same cute face than yorkies but I dont like the color. It's matter of taste.:aimeeyork :animal36 |
I'd go for the Biewer, but if I bought another dog I'd be sleeping outside.:thumbdown |
That being said, she could be registered at "Walmart" for all I care....:D You made my spit out my green tea laughing. HAHA. I think both are beautiful! You have 1 Yorkie and 1 Maltese....a Biewer would just give you the best off all 3 worlds! ANY photos???? That may help. (Ok Ok i just want to see) |
If I could afford a Biewer, you bet I'd jump at that! They are so gorgeous:D I think that a Biewer girl would be especially cool with your family, she'd make a wonderful addition in color with the white Maltese and the lovely Yorkie blue and gold. I'm so excited for you!  |

sorry about the tea on the screen! :D |
Girl - what a choice - you PO thang :( life is so hard sometimes I happen to love the classic Yorkie ...but then again if you were to get a gorgeous little Biewer with that same look in the face as our yorkies have then I say go for it - there's just something about Yorkies I just love - but I wouldn't say no to a Biewer either - then again - with the dogs you already have a Biewer would be a nice addition - BUT - a yorkie may be a better playmate for Phoebie - at the same time - she may be jealous of a yorkie so maybe a Biewer is a better choice DIDJA GET ALL THAT ??? :D :D :D :D now.... what did I just say ????? |
I dont know much about the biewer, but they sure are beautiful, but then again so are yorkies, Im kinda parcial to them:D I wish you the best in what ever you decide:D congrats:) |

and one day you can explain that twice removed stuff - I never did understand it |
You two are hilarious! Not only did she demote you to a COUSIN from an auntie... but a TWICE REMOVED cousin. |
Geez... I'd written up a post on this -- and then my computer or the server lost it out there in la la land... Just to let you know... I have a yorkie boy (5 years old) and a Biewer girl (15 months old) and I will never regret the decision to get a Biewer! She's definitely special! There are times when she's quite mellow... I have flown quite a bit with her and I don't hear a peep from her whether my flight is 1 hour or 5 + hours. I can hand her to almost anyone, and she will snuggle up and chill until I can get back to her. Unfortunately, Toby isn't quite as easy to do that with -- and he complains when he's in his carrier on the plane. At the same time... Lola can be hell on 4 legs... she loves to play and instigate. Then she looks at you with those eyes and wags her tail and it just makes you melt. Can't be mad at her for more then a second -- no matter what she gets into! I would like to say -- the breeder you go through is very important! And that's with any breed of dog you buy! There is a huge difference when your breeder socializes those puppies -- both with human and dog interface! I have seen these little ones from both situations, and there is a world of difference. Spend lots of time talking with the breeder and get to know them. Half the time I was on the phone talking with mine... I just sat and listened. She talked more to the dogs and puppies then she did me in a lot of our conversations. Didn't mean to write a book... but MOST people with Biewers that I've met seem to have that passion. But beware... several people that I know can't just stop at one! If I could, I'd have a dozen running around here!!! I love my Toby, and will probably always have a yorkie around... but I'll also have at least one Biewer, as well! Good luck with your decision and whatever you decide... please share pics of your new baby! |
i have 2 yorkies and 1 biewer. Both have their strong points. My biewer wants to be friends with everyone! He was a great addition to our family. He gets along with all the other dogs. He is VERY active. As far as a cuddler.. Not so much. When he wants attention he will be but for the most part he just wants you to be within sight. He hates to be alone!! My yorkies like almost everyone. They are somewhat picky about the dogs they want to be friends with. They are bigger cuddlers than my biewer. They have to be in your lap or sleeping on you. Both are equally good at giving kisses tho! whatever you decide i'm sure you will be happy. Just make sure to check out the breeder and ask all the right questions!! i would love to get another biewer within a year so i can have two of each. but i think i'll be shot if i bring another one home! |

Thanks for reposting...I've had that happen several times and it's always when it's a longer post... And I hear ya....took me awhile to get to this point but I feel the same exact way....the breeder is very important. I do feel very comfortable with the one I spoke to. I think she has done everything within her power to guarantee a healthy litter and her love for the breed is apparent. |
I have a yorkie and a maltese also :) If I had the option to get a yorkie or a biewer, I don't know what I would do!! I would probably get a yorkie, just because that is my preference, but I love biewers too...A yorkie, a maltese, and a biewer would probably all complement each other nicely though :) They would look so beautiful. I have read that biewers are more energetic than yorkies, but some of the members on here who have responded to this thread say that their biewers are pretty calm. So I guess it really depends on the dog. Wow, this is a tough decision!! Good luck, and let us know what you decide!! I'm so excited for you! |
Well, if there's 2 Yorkies, and only 1 maltese, your maltese would feel out of place:D I'd get a biewer so that you have a wide variety of dogs. |

This is a very good question! I am a standard Yorkie convert...I have 2 yorkie boys that I love with all my heart so don't get me wrong, but since taking the plunge into Biewer ownership I really do prefer the Biewer personality over the yorkie's hands down. I have 2 Biewers. The biggest difference I see is Biewers just don't come off as seeming so terrier intense. They are definitely at least compared to my yorkies more friendly and accepting of things unfamiliar to them such as people, other animals and environments in general. Where some of the yorkies are more stubborn natured my biewers seem more willing to please. It's almost as if they walk around with a smile on their face at how they just seem to enjoy being part of a family. If you have the chance to get a Biewer I don't think it's a choice you would ever regret. |
While it of course is a personal decision, I think the Biewers are a wonderful breed. They aregentler and friendlier than any other other breed I've been aquainted with. As a group they play well together and independently. I think Living Dust Mops and Toby'sMama summed it up well. |
Thank You all.....I'm finding all these opinions really helpful. If and that's a big IF because you never really know since every dog is an individual but IF a Biewer baby is similar in dispostion to the one's everyone here owns then I can't help but think that baby will fit in my home more comfortably than another yorkie pup. One last question and I should have asked earlier.....what is the size of your Biewer? I'm under the impression they tend to be on the larger size...am I wrong? |
