My Gizmo is ACA. I was told that was because AKC would not reconize his dads papers. He is ACH-L from Germany. My new girl is AKC. however her mom is MEOE-FCI from Russia. Does anyone know why AKC would accept puppy papers from Russia but not Germany?
I love both the same. And if I have puppies I can register with ACA and have "Papered" pups.

Well, neither of my yorkies had papers...well not exactly. My first one had british papers, she was from the bahamas. I was told I could convert them, but didn't even try. She was spayed, looked perfect just slightly larger at 8 lbs as an adult, so saw no reason. My Abbey also does not have papers. However, she does meet standard at 4 1/2 pounds at 16 months, height and length is proportionate, ears up, she looks gorgeous, and is healthy. Great attitude, take her everywhere. Only paid $600 for her. Saw both parents (one had AKC papers but not the other), good clean home, and breeder wouldn't let her go before 12 weeks. Came with shots up to date. Had references and photos and vet reference. Parents were beautiful. I wanted a pet, wanted it to meet standards and have the yorkie personality but was also on a budget. Waited 2 years to find her. Went all over and looked at rescues, at other breeders, higher priced ones, etc. Went to dog shows. Covered most of the east coast. As soon as I saw these puppies, I was pretty sure this was the one. Abbey was the last one available, and the smallest of the 3...they were all adorable, but I fell in love with her. She met all my criteria and I have not been disappointed. She is a great, great pet. I love her dearly!
But...if I wanted to show or breed, I would only go AKC and I would be extremely particular...not only on looks, size and health but also personality. In my wanderings around the country and talking to various breeders, I have seen many that are AKC registered, that I would not want as a pet, or to show. Just because they are AKC registered really doesn't mean it will meet standard. I have 2 friends who have yorkies that are AKC registered. These can't possibly be full blooded yorkies. One only resembles a yorkie in color..weighs 18 pounds and has short hair..but she has AKC papers!
Sorry this is so long...I tend to ramble. As long as we want a pet, it really doesn't matter what papers they have, or even if they have any. But we should do our homework and research.

To answer your original question Dee, yes registration is important to me. Don't know why. but I have always assumed that if my dogs were AKC that meant a lot. I never did show them but it was just something that I hung on to thinking that the breeders were willing to go the extra mile.

But I know where this was headed to since I don't think that it had anything to do with the AKC. New breeds here in America have to start somewhere with their registrations. It's good to belong and have your dogs registered with the country of their origin but just as with people if your born here you are a citizen of this country. Just because your parents were born in Germany and you were born here, why should you have a birth certificate that says Germany? Since the Biewers, yes Biewers, are being born here, why is it not a good thing for a registry to start here. If the registry keeps well documented records of pedigrees and DNA results, and is possibly backed by a dual registry with Germany, what is so wrong? All registries in Germany accept and acknowledge each other. If we don't start to at least try to start keeping records on our own who will we be able to trust 10 years down the line? If a person feels that they would like to take the risk of registering their litters with an up and coming club registry I applaud them. They are taking a risk and putting one foot forward to promote the breed and their registry in the process. I know that I will do all I can to get this breed accepted by the American people. I hope that you all excuse us in bringing this topic here. It should have stayed in BiewerTalk, but as many of these people have been banned from there, I guess YT was the only sounding board that was available. ..

Hi Theresa,

I don't mind discussing this at all. I actually have nothing against starting a registery here in the US for the American Born Biewers. That being said, I have lots of questions of how that is really going to work. Your club has a registery, I believe. Is it open to all Biewer breeders? Do they have to be members of your club? If there are 3 or 4 clubs each with their own registry, what happens if I mate my dam with a sire that isn't registered with your registry? Will I have to register now with 2 American registeries? Are you restricted to using dams or sires that are with your registry only?

If the purpose of developing a registry is in preparation for the "studbook", there is differences in opinions about the Biewers, splitters, breeding back to Yorkies, etc. so how are all these different registeries going to unite towards
AKC acceptance?

Dual registration with Germany at this time will add credibility to American registeries. JMHO.

Dee, the registries in Germany all honor one another. That being said, with our registry will will accept anyone that will follow the paperwork we request and the DNA testing that is required. Members or non-members. But what we will only register is a dog that is an offspring of Biewer to Biewer breeding. That's what our club promotes. We think that this is the future for the Biewer in this country and the studbooks should reflect that. I can't speak for the other registeries as to how they will handle each other, I know that our objective is to eventually have a nice data base so these guys get acredited here and not involved with negativity as has been happening recently. These guys are just too nice to fade away...

Nice post Theresa. Your right Germany does accept one anothers pedigrees and we should do the same. Keep the negativity out and we will get ahead. I am asking you this and it is not to start anything it is an honest question but what do you do with the people that have bought dogs out of Germany that do have Yorkie in them ?
I do not want any bashing this is an honest question for Theresa. If there is I apoligize to you Theresa and answer me in a PM :animal36

I want to answer this publicly. We all know that many of us have Yorkies added in our pedigrees within the last few generations. We can't change that and we wouldn't have Biewers if they hadn't done this years ago. Knowing all this we are still only registering Biewers, even if they came from Germany, that have full Biewer parents. This isn't saying that if you have a Biewer with one parent that a Yorkie that it's not good, it's just that we want to start our first generation of record keeping with 1 generation already behind them of Biewer to Biewer breeding. This isn't to cause trouble or say that the others aren't good, it's just a place to start for our records. Others may have different policies and that's good, it's whatever is going to work for them, but this is the road our club choose...

Thank you Theresa. I believe that we will someday be able to put registeries together for the necessary studbook for AKC/UKC.

I hope to be able to meet you at one of the dog shows. Your dogs are beautiful.

qraven 07-29-2007 12:23 PM

Thank you Theresa. That is what I was wondering and you set it straight. One day when the time is right as Dee stated we will have to join books to get into AKC if we really want that. To be honest I see the Biewer in Germany doing just fine. Even with the many registries there. Like us they have their different opinions which I respect that.
Take care and love all your beautiful babies :animal36

Now as for the AKC regs here Dee I prefer AKC because with the other registries you really do not know what the breeding is. I am sure there are many good breeders with the others and I know APRI,ACA and I think the CKC have shows and stuff for their dogs which is good. THere is nothing wrong at all with the others just AKC is my choice for now JMO

I received AKC papers with Conner - never sent them in. I guess you can tell how important it is to me.

Let Conner have it as a pee pad ;) Papers really do not matter unless you plan to show/breed. My first Yorkie I still have her papers. Never sent them in. Wonder what AKC would think if I sent in a 25 yr old paper

scrapindee 07-29-2007 09:33 PM

I was supposed to get papers with Dayzee and never did....still makes me angry--paid for a pedigreed dog and can't prove that she is.
