When I moved out i had no problems being home alone at night, and now since we just moved about a month ago into a house some strange things have happened, and one instance it happened a few times, i said, "thank you, that's enough, knock it off" and it stopped instantly. I'm not saying that proves anything but being alone there doesn't bother me, my hubby had an out of state wedding i couldn't attend our first weekend in and i wasn't bothered or nervous at all.

Yea if you tell it to stop and go away i have heard it will.

My daughter would say it was a spirit but in my opinion maybe it is your guardian angel. My granddaughter, when she was like 2, would see angels all the time. She was serious and would try to show them to us but of course we couldn't see them. I have always heard that children and animals are really sensitive to that.

Kbsqueff 07-25-2007 12:34 PM

Okay, since you guys started it, I have to say that I NEVER liked hallways (especially the looong ones:eek:)... but latelly Maggie and Hannah are constantly checking out our hallway, looking at some invisible thing up on the wall...

Then, there was one night (which btw not long time ago), around 2:00am, Maggie jumped up on her feet and started barking and growling non stop staring to the hallway... when I finally managed her to quit barking (we live in an apartment), Hannah when to the edge of the bed and stared at the hallway...

Well, I was freaking out badly that night... even hubby got the creeps!!! NO ONE slept that night!!!

That's what i said to my bf, trying to make it a positive thing. But really i do believe that and that kids can see things adults can't. This may sound stupid but when I was about 4 yrs old I saw a 'monster' trying to come in my room, i tried to wake up my mom but she wouldn't wake up. Now that i think of it maybe it was an evil spirit and only i saw it anyways.

That's creepy! I HATE long hallways too! I have a hallway in my apt. but it's small. They suck especially at night when you can't see what's on the other side:eek:

kezza 07-25-2007 01:51 PM

This reminded me of something my Stafford did a few years ago..and he hasn't done it since...I was sat on the sofa reading and he was sat at my feet when i notice that he is staring transfixed at a point in the corner of the room above the TV..he was sat like that for a couple of minutes and would NOT look away..it was so creepy..i have no idea what he was looking at as he was looking at bare wall..there was no bugs or anything.
This was when we lived up in Scotland and my neighbour had recently lost his mother and was always saying that weird stuff was going on..not sure if there was a connection or not but it makes you wonder!

But the thing that freaks me out the most is when he does it AT NIGHT while we are laying in bed  Omg, I HATE when he does that! Scares the crap out of me. lol. The end of our bed faces the hallway - and at night of course we leave our bedroom door open and the hall is pitch black. Well Stedman will walk over to the end of the bed and just stand there and STARE down the hall and bark and GROWL like he is just staring something dead in the face and it totally freaks me out!!

Oh yeah, and it's REAL FUN when he does this and my hubby is out of town for work for the night and I'm home alone! ;)

LOL I know i shouldn't laugh but thats sooo funny..why does it always happen when hubbys away!

Dina_Nichole 07-25-2007 03:50 PM

That's so freaky.... Once in a great while Snoot will do the same thing and then the girls go right along with him. It seems to always be the hallway. They all stand at the one end of the hallway and go off barking and crying. One night they freaked me out so bad that I grabbed all of them and hid under the covers in my bed until Mikey got home. :p

Doodlebug 07-25-2007 08:41 PM

Sometimes I see Daisy staring in the air at nothing too. She doesn't bark, she just stares. It gives me the creeps. There is nothing there.

this same thing happend to my coco but at 3 in da morning every day she would get up bark at this one spot then run for her life and hide behind me shaking, i got scared too by the way she was acting talked to my mom bout it and she just said that some dogs sense things that we dont so we had a lady from the church come and pray in our house for us and ever since then coco has been fine... except when we go to downtown Los Angeles at night she freaks out i think its a bunch of negative energy or something.

 Coco is smart to freak out in downtown LA at night, I freak out just in the day forget the night....lol

The only one that does this is my Duncan, but he will do it when we a driving somewhere. I use to think "oh, it's a car or that person standing there" but alot of times there is no one or cars and he goes off that scares the heck out me and sleeping beauty Buffy.

I have always been afraid of the dark so I sleep with a night light in the restroom which gives light in the hallway, and lucky for me the house I bought also has a restroom in the master bedroom w/a night lite.

Two weeks after we moved in we had the house blessed by a prist and we keep holly water in the house as back up in case it is ever needed. :)

Sophia is a very vocal girl. While I am a believer in spirits I also know that Sophia has a tendency to yell at outside noises and if she gets a snoot full of someone cooking she is all over that!

Sounds like she is trying to protect you from whatever she feels is a threat. She would do this sometimes with me (always when hubby was away). I would just walk thru the house with her, all lights on and show her that we had nothing to be afraid of.

Now, my father passed away June 5, 2003, then my mother passed on June 26, 2005 and my grandmother on Oct 26, 2005. I kept having vivid dreams of my mother coming to me with messages. It felt so real at times I would wake smelling her perfume - weird I know. So.... when Sophia would bark at the air I figured it was my mom.

i too believe in spirits and don't think the perfume is weird at ALL! this happened with me shortly after my grandma passed away. she had a very distinct perfume scent.

i have also been told children can see angels. my mom has said when i was about 2 i stood outside looking at the sky pointing them out to her and saying, "look mommy! angels!"
she didn't see them. :(

daso 07-27-2007 01:05 PM

alot of the barking is from shadows coming from near by windows and the wind blowing the trees causing the shadows on the wall to move. Next time your dog is barking at the wall the door the window check for shadows before anything else

LoveMyJake 07-27-2007 01:51 PM

Jake does something similar. He will be playing and then all of a sudden he will just stop and look at nothing. He will stare at a certain area for a minute or two. If I ask him what he's looking at, he just keeps looking back and forth from me to the same area. There's nothing there, but it's like he sees something that I don't. Or, maybe he hears something and he's just listening and it just looks like he's looking at a certain area. Eventually, he will go back to what he was doing. I don't know what it is, but my daughter and husband have seen him do it too. It's kinda weird, but he doesn't seem worried or scared, so I don't worry about it.

I notice she usually barks when she hears a noise outside, if Teddy barks or if someone rings the bell. I checked what she was looking at and there were no shadows or anything. She was like scared to go to the side of my bed so I walked back there to show her there was nothing there. Even London walked over there to sit in her princess chair  She did it on and off but hasn't done it since that day. I'd like to think of it that it was either angels she was looking at or my dead dog Charlie. :) That perfume story is freaky, I wouldn't know what to think if that happened to me. I would be so confused. Maybe she was trying to tell you she is okay.

LilLexieLu 07-27-2007 02:24 PM

You could try taking a pic of the area she's barking at. A lot of paranormal investigator types say that a spirit can manifest itself on camera. That may or may not answer the ghost question.

littlewhip 07-27-2007 04:54 PM

charlie will start sniffing all along the side of my carpet in my livingroom, then he will stop & growl, no barking just growl, and i know there is nothing there, i just sit and watch him do this,he does it at least once a day:rolleyes: it does creep me out and sometimes he will do it for at least 1/2 hour:confused:
