Revolution Question If you use revolution....Does your baby ever bite at his butt and itch excessively?? I put it on Diggy today at 2 pm and he is itching and biting at right above his tail.....he goes all 4's up on the floor and barks and growls in a very playful way not in pain or anything... He also is walking around th yard bucking which is a new trick we started today. Maaybe a learned behavior as Bella does it afetr she pees or poo's but he never di it before and he is just walking around doing it no pooing or peeing just bucking!!! Anyone have ideas on either of these things he is doing and why???? |
I use it on all 3 of my girls and have had no reaction. Hopefully someone else can help |
uuugggggg thanks for fast response and trying to help Patti, I dont get it I have used it before once and he didnt react.....He had rabies shot friday and was due for revolution that day but i wanted for this reason...if he reacts I would know which it is....Revolution or rabies...He odes not act to be in pain just a bit itchy. Now he is sleeping very sound and not itching. I absolutely hate this...i seriously freak myself right out!!!! |
I don't know the answer, but I'm bumpin it up. |
Paddington uses revolution. Sometimes he bits his tail, but I never thought about it being a reaction from the revolution! He doesn't seem itchy otherwise though. Sorry it's not much help :( -O |
does he do it the day you put it on? |
Like all of the flea meds, revolution does have chemicals, so it wouldn't be odd that your baby might be acting that way after application. They are also processed through the liver, and revolution is supposed to be one of the safer ones for the liver. I hope he stops itching soon! |
hmmm.... I put it on him about two weeks ago, and since I wasn't thinking about it, I don't remember if that is the same day I noticed him biting his tail.... I didn't notice any reaction at all with his first dose; this last one was his second. sorry -O |

I use Revolution on my yorkies and my German Shephard cross. My yorkies do fine but my German Shephard cross goes running crazy when she gets it. It's never hurt her and she's always stopped after a short while, but she's the only one that reacts that way. I suppose that it could be a reaction to it. I never thought about that, I always thought that she was just mad at us for putting something on her. |

you know, Bear DID act crazy, with the zoomies etc. when I gave it to him, but I thought it was just because he was still hyper from seeing the other dogs at the vet. I also do remember him "chasing his tail" which is hilarious because he has no tail to chase! Maybe that was the day I noticed him biting, too.... IDK; I'll let you know in a couple weeks when he gets his next dose, I guess! I wish he was due for a doe of it now so that we could see. -O |
yeah it would be nice to have someone holding my hand through this...I will spend tonight staring at him and prolly not sleep I always do that when I think something is wrong. |
I dont use Revolution, but I do use Frontline Plus and whenever I put it on Reeses, he goes psycho. He runs around and flips around on the bed in the covers and when you try to get him settled down he will be quivering like he is cold. But as soon as you lay down with him and take a town and wrap around him he calms down and is fine. I always do it right before we go to bed so he wont want to have his lil spell all day because once we go to bed he is fine from then on. Now I put it on him and put a towel over his neck where I put the stuff and then about 30 minutes later after it has had time to kinda dry a lil bit we go to bed. He doesnt have his spells when I do this. You could try that...just put it on him at bedtime and lay a towel over it and lay down on bed with him for about 30 min and then go to bed. Just a thought. Lol. Goodluck!! |
Don't you guys ever wonder why those things say if it comes in contact with your skin, to make sure and wash it off...If it's bad for us, what does it do to them? I know we need to use flea preventative if they go outside, but I have completely stopped the flea treatments...I just can't put them through that. I put garlic and nutritional yeast in my maltese's food and just garlic in my yorkie's food, and so far no fleas. Also, we spray them down with a natural spray to keep mosquitoes and fleas and ticks away when they go outside... |
I am totally going over this with my vet...Im scared crapless now Diggy os itching like a mad man like every 20 minutes! What do you use for heart worm then? I went with revolution so he also has heartworm prvntn but this isnt worth it, my vet is going to have to help me here. She diagnosed 2 heartworms cases friday when I was in there for rabies shot. I cannot wait til winter so I dont have to worry about either! I guess thats one good thing about Michigan....winter means NO BUGS! |
Help Me Okay I was up ALL NIGHT with Diggy. I think its definately the revolution he is reacting to. I call the vet and they see very few reaction to Revolution vs Frontline so she didnt know what to tell me besides give hinm 1/2 tspn of childrens benedry. There are 3 vets at my vet office and Dr. Rob the owner who sees Bella 90% of the time is coming in at 2:00. What would you do, hold off on the benedryl til Dr Rob sees him or give it to him and if he stops reacting not take him in? Hubby is home with him right now Im at work. I hate this I get so freaked out over my babies. please tell me what you would do...Im trying to function and make decisions on 2 hours sleep and its not going so well.....:( |

Girl - I can't see that being a reaction but then again - maybe it is - TRY a warm bath on his lower half and see if you can see anything - he may have an ant on him or something that's causing him to be biting like that - When I see my girls biting on feet or something I always put them in the bath first so I can take a good look - IF there's anything biting him - it will come off in water - GOOD LUCK...poor little guy - |
Ohhhh I guess I should have mentioned...I did give him a bath....I have went through his hair like a little monkey looking for a treat! I am stumped! Think I should just go ahead and take the vet appt at 2? It's not the regular old itchies...he is barking and growling like he is having a blast but he is rubbing his back on the floor. What is the bucking?????? He bucks more than anything! Im sorry to be going on and on about this but he really is not comfortable. Heres what I have Wet nose Eating and Drinking Solid Poo Pink Gums Warm to the touch where I put the revolution but nowhere else? Skin is white and no sign of residue or bugs No sign of visual irritation Bucking back scrathing with all 4's in the air barking and growling rubbing and scooting face across the floor biting paws itching ears rubbing his body on anything he can for a scratch playing with toys DOESNT SLEEP (well 10-20 minutes at a time) Applied Revolution at 2 pm yesterday first symptom was at 6 pm and was bucking I turned on central air to 70 keeping house REALLY cool figuged would be sootheing 12pm mom starts ripping her hair out! |
I am so sorry Diggy's sick! Poor baby! Hugs and hope he's feeling better soon. :getwellso |
diggy4, I'm just seeing this now...Revolution is supposed to be easier on them than any of the other ones, and that's the advantage of using it...The fact that it already has heartworm. There are some natural products for heartworm preventative such as black walnut....But you really have to research it and give the right amounts. http://www.preciouspets.org/heartwormprevention.htm http://www.theherbsplace.com/Heartwo...on_sp_104.html They say that the healthier the dog is, the less they will want his/her blood. So a natural, healthy diet that includes a bit of garlic....Maybe just a little off of a clove of garlic in his food. And just sprinkle some nutritional yeast on his food everyday. You can buy the nutritional yeast online. I do this for my healthy maltese. But my liver compromised yorkie does not get the nutritional yeast because it's too high in purines for him. On the liver shunt group, their files section says one drop of black walnut per day, but only when the temperature outside is above 55 degrees. And a pinch of wormwood twice a week when temps are above 55 degrees. Use the following spray before you let them outside.... 1 cup of water with 4 drops of Tea Tree Oil (not recommended for cats) and 4 drops of Lavender Oil. Shake before spraying. This spray repells bugs and is non-toxic. |

Revolution 1 Attachment(s) How weird your dogs did the same thing as Jack... I used to use Heartguard Plus and someone told me Revolution was better. So stupid me, switched. The first dose he was fine but the second, forget it. He was acting hyper and chasing his stubby tail to bite it. Needless to say, I have him back on Heart Guard Plus. You know that old saying, "if it aint broke, don't fix it" I should have stuck with Heartguard. The reason why I switched to Rev. was the fleas and ticks stay off completely...which with Heartguard they can jump on and still bite. Then they die...after they bite! I didn't care for those results. But Rev. is so strong and that's why our dogs are reacting funny to it. I guess I can sacrifice a bite or 2 when you weigh out the pros and cons. |
Char, sounds just like Diggy.....You described it to a tee! How long does she go through these symptoms ??? Hubby says Diggy has tapered off and seems to be resting soundly right now. So Id say he had MAJOR symptom for 12-14 hours. Yorkieluv....I printed off the Natural Heartwrom Preventative program and plan to take to vet with me. Says 1 heartworm prevention Program last 2 months for a 50 pound dog. SO for both Diggy and Bella would you think 2 programs would be plenty for both? Says to treat if temp is above 55, well I am in Michigan so we are below 55 usually 5 months of the year! |
