Pissed Off My husband and I went to dinner with his parents last night. We were talking about Izzy and his mom said "yorkies are fu-fu dogs". I just about blew through the roof. I hate that stereotype! Plus, Izzy is not "fu-fu" at all...she is more of a daddy's girl/tomboy...she loves to roughhouse around and there is nothing dainty about her right now. Also, we are starting puppy kindergarten this week and his parents were like "we are glad you are starting that...it will be good for everyone" what does that mean?? She's not out of control...just a normal puppy that likes attention and bounces a lot. Anyways I just had to vent.... |

I must not read enough as I have never heard of yorkies refered to as "fu-fu dogs" :) I bet you were biting your tongue NOT to say anything NASTY to her remark :p |
all I have to say is... I LOVE MY FU FU dog.... LOL.... some people just dont understand, do they? d |
It's just amazing how many stupid comments come out of peoples mouths when talking about Yorkies - I've never heard so much nonsense....... We all have to learn to smile and not give these ignorant people any satisfaction of getting us down. We know how good we have it - and they may just be a bit jealous - |

But its like no big deal if you own a big dog...no one harasses my brother for having two chocolate labs! But if you own a small dog(gasp) well then you must be a high maintenance person who just cares about showing off your pet. |

Oh come on now, but Yorkies ARE "fu fu dogs"! :D Id wonder if someone would say that when they see my boys attack sprinklers, roll around on dead fish and others dog poop, eat bugs, play so rough with each other you'd think there were 2 300lb bears in your house!!! If I had a female Id MAKE her a fu fu dog! Man, what is the point of getting a YORKIE if you wanted a big rough dog??? Your in-laws know nothing of Yorkies! HAHA Maybe you should show them a thing or two about how 'fu fu' your baby REALLY IS!!! NOT!!! :D |
 hhhmm it was a dupe :( |
I love my fu fu babies and wouldn't want them any other way!! :p |
Awww man.....dont you love the nasty comments! UGH!!! My MIL say's crap like that too. I used to not say anything, but I cannot hold it in anymore. It just rolls out and I cant control myself. Hmmmmm I wonder why she doesnt come over very much anymore? LOL Hubby does not mind much cause she is his step-MIL....:D |
 Okay then.... I also own 2 fu-fu yorkie terriores... :D :D :D |
I think my mother in law is just jealous...really...because she has a lasso apso(sp?) and that dog is a terror(dont ever get one of those)...i mean she bit my toe...drew blood last thanksgiving... and yes i would love for izzy to be "fu-fu" maybe she will be one day if she ever stops biting and chewing EVERYTHING we own. |
Fu Fu doesn't describe my yorkie at all. More like rough-and-tumble. She isn't afraid of anyting and thinks she is a big dog. |
Did you say that you had indigestion after going out to dinner with your in-laws?:D |

this used to bother me but not anymore. i just tell myself that whoever says that is jealous because they can't/don't have a yorkie for whatever reason |
XNatalie- You are so right...A lot of people resent Yorkie owners...prob b/c the majority of dog owners dont pay $$ aka "cha-ching" for their dogs... |
Just let any comment that seems unfair blow over. It isn't worth thinking about. They really aren't "foo-foo" dogs and no amount of spoiling or dressing them can turn them into one. ;) I love the firey spirit of the Yorkies!! |
The only thing that is "foo-foo" about yorkies is their looks...am I not right?? Unless you have a really old one that just sits and looks pretty. |
I completely understand what you went through w/your in-laws MDSHELLE! My bf's mother ALWAYS says things like that about my fur baby. Everytime we come back after going to obedience classes she HAS to ask us how Tobi did, and when we tell her he was one of the most well behaved in the class she always has to say "OH, REALLY?!?" as if it's such a surprise. My yorkie is still a puppy, but he's really well behaved, and she just drives me up the wall when she insinuates that he's a terror! |
And while Im on my soapbox...who came up with this "purse dog" thing...who CAN actually carry their Yorkie in their purse w/o them jumping out??? I could never carry Izzy in my purse...she could fit in there but she would never stay in there. I just hate the phrase "ohhhh you just got that thing to be a purse dog" |

LOL - Amen to that one! :) |

I'm so sorry about all the dumb comments to you. :thumbdown My soon to be mother-in-law is a real pain in the butt, so I know how your feeling. It's hard but try to ignore her. ;) |
I have tried 3 times to comment on your MIL.....you know how they say if you don't have anything nice to say..then don't say a thing. :p That's all I wanted to say. |
Hah:) Whats funny about the whole episode last night is before I got Izzy I would never have seen myself getting mad at my MIL about something like this...what has happened to me?? Izzy is sucking me in and I cant get out! Why is it everything she does I LOVE!? (well not EVERYTHING i dont like it when she poops in the house) |
I heard one of the trainers at a PetSmart call Yorkies/Poodles and the like, foo-foo dogs. I thought, "well I know where I am NOT going to bring my boys for training". |
Argh, people need to keep their comments to themselves about our babies! |
I can totally agree with everyone. On Maggies first outing we went to the renaissance festival here in Michigan. I heard comments like that's not a real dog. to some people even jokind about needing ketchup. I have to agree some people are just ignorant. Or they have never owned a small dog and the only small dogs they have been around are like fru fru dogs or yappy, so they tend to stereo type. |
