Decissions, Decissions Hi everyone! Jack and I recently made the decission not to get the dog from Puppy Paradise. Now we are facing harder ones trying to decide where to get a dog from. We had several e-mails, names of breeders, etc from Yorkie Talk. We were supposed to go to 3 places tonight to look at dogs, but we only made it to S&V Quality Canines and then it was to late. I fell in love again with a cute female yorkie, that should only be about 3 1/2 to 4lbs. I dont know if I want to continue looking or should I just get her. We have been looking and wrote and called a lot of people. Everything that we have found or have been seeing is around the same price and if we get anything out of town we have to pay for shipping. So she is in the running. I have read some good things about them so far does anybody have some feedback on this place. Both, negative and positive feedback is welcome. All I have read has been good... He is not a pet store.. .He is very knowledgable. Were looking for 4 lbs tops and he showed us a few at the same age different weights. There very well kept and it didnt even smeel like there was a pup in there. asked eachother a ton of questions. Also for some reason it took like 25 -30 min to get to the south end of Brooklyn. yea thats true i dont need others to get pumped |
Jack- did you read that link? there are some referrals on there and other YT members that you can contact that have gotten from them! That should make you feel good! |

How old is the puppy, and when will you be able to get her? Can't wait to hear. I've been thinking about you guys. Names...pictures...all that fun. |
She is 14 weeks old and she is ready to go as soon as we pay. I am just worried about her size. Ivan told me that the father, who lives with him is 2 1/2lbs and the mother is 3 1/2 lbs, who lives with his cousin. She is so cute and I would love nothing more to get her this week, but I am very nervous about the size situation. Just because I wanted a yorkie that will stay 3-4lbs for so long and now I am nervouse that she will be bigger and we are scared from the experience with the dog from puppy paradise. |
I know this isn't a real popular opinion here, but I have to say it so others reading these messages looking for a pup will see it too. Anyone selling pups that they did not breed is a "dealer", "pet store" or "broker". Until people quit buying from these types of places, no matter how clean or nice they seem to be puppymills and large commercial breeders will continue. There are quality breeders in every state in the country. Of course I will add the usual JMO to please anyone who doesn't think this maybe a fact. |
I would be worried about getting a healthy yorkie more than worrying about their size. Have you even seen a 3-4 pound yorkie in person? When I went to see my breeder most of her adult yorkies were around 6 pounds and they were very very tiny. My gosh, smaller than a lot of human babies when born. I would look for breeders that belong to YTCA and who follow their code of ethics. Good luck finding your baby :) |

I reccomend Quality Canines.. I was told Mocha would be about 7 lbs, however, she is aroud 6.5 now and I don't care if she's 15 lbs.. I love her and she's been great and Ivan was great!! I have seen Yorkies who were very small (like 3 lbs) and they looked so unhealthy.. If I were you, i would get a dog that will be healthy!! how come breeders breed pups that small? are they doing this by accident? also im not saying that its healthy but ive spoke and wrote to alot and 99.9% of them have this size pup. So breeders are breeding small pups that are all indanger of health risks? |
Some "breeders" do breed smaller dogs to try to get smaller puppies but they are not always doing what right or safe for their dogs. There are also times when reputable breeders do have smaller puppies in their litter when breeding dogs of proper size. Many times breeders will say their puppies will end up smaller as that is what some people want to hear, but no one can guarantee what size a pup will grow up to be. Its just nature. |

They don't care about the fact that they could lose the mother or that she will have to have a c-section. I don't know what your price range is but, why don't you try to get a puppy from a YTCA breeder? |

Will it make a big difference if the dog is 4.5 or 5lbs.?...most of the time you can't even tell the difference..Maximus' mom was 5.5 lbs. and his daday was 3...so the breeder figured probably 4.5 to 5 lbs...the porker is now almost 4.5 lbs..and he still has about 2 motnhs to grow..and I saw both parents..so you never know..I love him regardless..and I actually feel better that he isn't so frail, and most people don't even realize he is that heavy..lol..I had someone ask me if he was a "teacup" which I had to explain was no such thing but she thought he was only about 3lbs...lol..he is just long which I think adds to his weight..but at the vet I saw a 6 lb. mom and a 3.5 dad and the son was bigger then both of them..lol..so you never know..size isn't a guarantee unless you buy a older dog..I would assume |
I don't want to sound sarcastic or anything but why is such a small size soooo important to you? I would be worried about the health of such a small dog. When I was researching breeders in my area my main concern was getting the puppy from a reputable breeder that had references and was recommended by the YTCA. The breeder told me Brutus might be about 6 or 7 lbs but to tell you the truth I wouldn't care if he went into the Guinness book of World Records for being the biggest Yorkie as long as he's happy and healthy! :) |
I wouldn't worry about size either. Health is the most important. I got a 3 yr. old puppy that's only 2.2oz. She is not healthy at all and will probably land up costing a lot of money. I still wouldn't give her up for all the money in the world. Please worry about health first. It breaks your heart when their sick. |

puppy I know it is time consuming driving all over the place to find a puppy. It will be a 15 yr companion, hopefully, so taking time is the best thing to do. As for Size...double the 12 week weight and I would not buy under 12 weeks since size is so important to you. Ask to speak to the vet is good advice you have been given..the way the breeder reacts to this requests will be helpful. I would ask the breeder in person for this information. The story about the cousin being the owner may be true, but you need to meet the actual breeder and see the parents, where they were raised..you will not regret doing these things..best of luck. |
:mad: Okay- I know all of you on here think I am just worried about the size, BUT you are wrong and I cant stand the fact that you are bashing me about it when plenty of people have small dogs. I am worried about her health and that is why I went someplace that I heard fellow Yorkie talkers went to as well as not going through with my other purchase. However, I have wanted a smaller yorkie for a few years now and I have a dog already that 8 or 9lbs, so I wanted something smaller. If I REALLY wasn't worried about the dogs health than I would get one that will be 2lbs. Another this is that if I wanted a bigger dog than I would not spend as much as I am planning on to get a small one. I am worried I am paying the price for a small one and getting a big one. So for everyone on yorkie talk that thinks I just want the dog for its size and dont care if it is healthy your wrong. :mad: I also feel that you are wrong for judging me that way. |
I don't think anyone is bashing you..but more then anything they are saying you never know in regards to size..and I am sure you will love the dog no matter what....and when dealing with a smaller pup..because you want a 4lb. dog it is important that you see BOTH the mother and father (although no gaurantee)..and also understand that a smaller pup CAN sometimes cost more in vet bills because they are so fragile...I thank God Maximus is 4.5 now and he will probably be 5.5 lbs fully grown....in my avatar he is 4lbs..and he is still tiny..so anyways..good luck and no one is trying to make you feel bad..but size did sound like an issue when you said no more then 4lbs...so I guess that is what we were working with |
