She's not a teacup!! Hi Everyone, this is my first post. I have two beautiful Yorkie kids and love reading what you fellow Yorkie-lovers have to say. I was hoping I could get some advice... My male, Valentino, is a healthy 3 year-old, 7 pound ruff and tumble Yorkie. My female, Lolita, is a healthy 1 year-old, 3 pound sweet and petite Yorkie. But she is more than ready to play and wrestle with her brother. I love taking them both on walks and they are the best of friends. The problem is that I hate fielding questions about her being a "teacup", "pocket yorkie", "mini" or anything else of that nature. They are both from the same wonderful, repatable breeder and Lolita was expected to be at least a pound more, but it just didn't happen...as for the other females in the litter. Her parents were beautiful 5 and 6 pound Yorkies. She draws attention to her size, but I don't want to help incourage the popularity of dogs bred to be "teacups"...which isn't even a Yorkie breed, like some people think. It makes me sad to think people think it was intentional that she was "MADE" so small, I would never want to risk a puppy's healthy just so she could fit into my pocket! So I ask for your advice, what should I say when EVERYONE calls her a teacup... |
Hello and welcome to YT. I would just tell them that there is no such thing as a teacup and if they need proof they can try to find the word in the AKC standard for Yorkies. |
Just tell everyone that they're both Yorkies within standards and just compare it to people, how we have people that are only 4'10" and some are 6'5" and it doesn't matter, we're all just people, just different shapes and sizes.;) |

1 Attachment(s) Yes... My husband and I always joke....Tino takes after his Daddy, my husband is a 6'3'', 300 pound retired professional athlete, and Lola takes after her Mommy, a 5'4'', 100 pound thin gal. I don't even want to get started on the ridicule that my husband gets when he is walking our babies by himself...:p It is hard though to keep your cool when people INSIST she is something she is not and look at you like a dummy because you don't agree. |

When my Heidi was around my 6'3" hubby wouldn't even take her from the house to the car on the lead for fear of the neighbours seeing him!...men!!!!:p Welcome to YT by the way!!! |

p.s. the boys might have the size advantage in our house....but the girls are the bosses :) |
Heck I had someone ask me if my 6 lb yorke was a teacup:confused: I think when most people ask that it is an innocent question. I would just very nicely tell them there isnt such a thing |

Welcome to YT! I understand your frustration, you can't stop people from keep asking that, it's annoying, but you have to come with a phrase that you can use each time, so you don't have to think each time they ask. You guys look like a happy family! My hubby also walk my little boy, isn't that great??? we're lucky :) Post more pictures of your babies soon |
