Just got busted... ... for having Alphy in my apartment. I got home and found a note welcoming my new pet and a new amendment to my lease reflecting the new $35 a month charge for my pet. Nothing about Abby. Hmmm... guess I'll have to fess up .... eventually... LOL |
they charge you a monthly rate for a pet? How silly is that??? But she is worth every penny .... |
Dont cha just hate when they find out...lol:D |
that is steep for a monthly fee...do they charge an extra deposit?? |

They want a $500 deposit. I already have a deposit from when I had my Max, so I'm not sure if it will be grandfathered or if I'll have to pay the difference. I think I only pd $250 or 300 before. Once I do that I'll pony up for Abby, which will require more of a deposit and i think they monthly will be like $50 or $70 then for both pets. :( Things we we do for the love of a pet. LOL My weight limit though is 65lbs and I think Abby may be over. :( Not really sure what prompted it. I've had Abby for 2 years and Alphy for over a year. I'm guessing it's because of the new people downstairs. They have some box/pit looking mix. Our apartments back a greenbelt and they only let the dog out the back deck and it poops there. Alphy likes to sit in the window sill and watch the dog sits out there. The dog likes to sit and look up at Alphy which makes Alphy bark. :( Guess I should move the stool so Alphy can't get to the window. LOL |
Wow, I'd just be glad they allow pets! :D Too bad about the extra money out the window, though... |
Wow those are some steep prices for pets!! Here in Ga its usually a 200 or 250 deposit but definetly no monthly addition to the rent..!! And people here complain about that!!! Wow need to let them know its not as bad as you think!!! |
Sorry ya got busted. We are in the same situation you were in. They know about Tilly but not JJ. We pay $20 a month extra for Tilly and we are trying to avoid paying another $20 for JJ. Our deposit was just a months rent upfront. They know how to hurt the piggybank. |
well...atleast you didnt get a eviction notice like I did...LOL:cool: |
A STEEP price for pet rent??? Really???? I've looked at apartments where they want a pet deposit (equal to one month's rent) and then an extra $100 per pet every month! Where we live at now, we just had to pay an initial deposit. We paid the deposit, but it was for a cat that we no longer have. We aren't sure if small dogs are allowed, and our landlord lives in the apartment right above us  I know he's heard Paddington barking, and he's had to have seen the Kennel and pee pad etc because he was just in there fixing the AC (Paddington stays at my parents' during the day) He hasn't said anything, but Paddington is starting to bark more and more, and I'm just waiting for the day he knocks on our door and tells us to beat it! -O |
lol, hence why I am so glad I live in a house. At least they allow pets! It could be worse! |
 $35 a month!!! Wow! My deposit was $300 and my monthly is only $10. I thought that was bad, but now I"m reconsidering  Guess I've got it lucky. |
here in Burbank... Here in Burbank, Ca ...at least in the apartment complex we are staying...yes..they allow pets 40 lbs and under and you are allowed to keep a maximum of two pets at a time...we paid $500.00 for pet deposit and $50.00 each pet. We have two so we are paying an additional of $100.00 on top of our monthly apartment rent every month!!! That is really ridiculous and that is why I am praying that we could afford to get our own place soon.:( |
OMG. i guess i can count my lucky stars, i have my own place. i can understand the deposit, but not the monthly fee- when my son lived in fl. he had to pay a deposit and there was a weight limit. :thumbdown |
Well, at least you got by for a while without them finding out. But alas, rules are rules, what choice do you have? :( Pay up or move out, I suppose. |
thats why we bought this house BEFORE the landlord found out about our 2nd yorkie lol he knew about #1 but didnt like it, i think 2 would have set him off lol although he didnt charge me extra for dixie cuz she was small :) too bad you got busted but at least like someone else said you didnt get an eviction notice :) |
I find it even more interesting how you just came home to a new lease on your door! What a crappy "Welcome Home" note! I'm sure he's worth every penny though! |

I'm sorry you have to pay more money! That sucks. But like the others said, I'm sure your baby is worth every penny! :) |

That's what I was thinking! Here in the city, $25 a pet per month is NOTHING. Sorry you got slapped with a fee, but at least you didn't get evicted or anything. |
Yup, rent for puppies is nuts! My friend pays $7000 a month for rent in the city plus $300 for her baby yorkie! Makes me happy I live in a house! |
Just look at this way it could have been worse. At least you get to stay in your house with your babies. |
Yeah I have no problem paying it, they gouge me so much on the rent and I'm not too keen on the people, we seem to get new ones like every 3 months, so I had no issue with trying to 'get away with it' as loong as I could. The place has really gone down hill, I've been there for over 3 years and they keep jacking my rent. I would move but it's cheaper to stay and pay the rent them come up with first/last/deposit to move. I was just surprised with the new lease on the door, how do they know I wasn't dog sitting for someone? |
I never knew they charged a monthy rate, I thought it was just a one time bill, who knows? |

oh gosh but don't they know that Alphy is NOT a dog? He's your baby so they should NOT charge you anything :p |
