Wesley has never sat still on my lap, I think it makes him nervous. Maddie, on the other hand, always crawls onto my lap for me to hold her. I think it deopends on the individual dog. |
Gracie was more hyper as a little puppy but she has always loved to snuggle up on my shoulder or on my chest. She is not a "lap" dog. Guess you would call her a shoulder chest dog? :D |
none of my babies are my lap dogs. when my husband was home,(he is currently in Iraq) my 14 month old girl (Ms. Fergie) would get in his lap and sleep. my 12 month old dog,(Brutis) will come lay beside me, as will my 11 month old girl, (Penny), but most of the time she goes and hides. my newest addition,(Georgie) he is 12 weeks old, and is so hyper- i do not try to get him to lay in my lap, i am afraid he will jump out of my lap, and i do not want him to get hurt. if i am sitting on couch- when he calms down, he will lay at my feet. if i leave the room- all of my babies follow me. |
Chewy is about the same age and he doesn't like to be in a lap either, not even when napping. I have found though, that he WILL snuggle me if I am walking or driving. He likes if I hold him against my chestwith my arm and hand underneath him. Otherwise, he's too busy playing. He has snuggled up to me a couple times and laid NEXT to me, but not in my lap :( I am slightly bummed, but I wouldn't trade this crazy guy for anything! |
I think it is definitely an individual thing. Willie is a lap dog all the way. He loves to be in a lap --- well in my lap. With my hubby though --- when he sits on the sofa, Willie wants hubby to cross his arms so Willie can lay in on his arm. Archie rarely, very rarely sits on my lap. They have beds on the floor by the sofa and this desk where the computer is -- and the bed is where he wants to be. Sometimes he will sit on the sofa right beside, but not on, me, but more often he is in his spot on a pillow on the table behind the sofa at my head. |

When she grows into a, lets say, 'mature' puppy ( a little bit older) she'll eventually come across. We didn't force our girl to sleep on our laps, she came on her own. She's not the type of dog that allows people to place her whever we want, she does it her way. When she wants to come, she'll come... don't force, let her/him be. But now, Missy loves sleeping on our pillow, while we are sleeping on it, lol. ;) |

Our yorkie hated to sit on laps when he was a puppy, he became doing it only after 10 month old. And our chihuahua was a lap dog from the first day i bring her home, she was 2.5 month and slept on me all day long, and she is the same now. But your puppy will be better with age i think. |

Sounds like Nomi! At about a year and a half she started to settle down and for the last 6 months or so she'll sit next to us on pillows. |
Peanut is 2 years. He is not a lap dog.He will sit beside you on the bed or sofa. But not on your lap. When he was younger no way.Peanut likes his space. He only comes to you on his terms. Thumper is 16months and he is my lap dog.Where I am he is there. If I dont see him I know he is close by-Under a table, chair, behind the sofa. He is my velcro baby. All 18lbs of him. |

Hi to Yorkie lovers! 2 Attachment(s) Halle is my second Yorkie. The first of November 2013 my 3 yr old chrissi was hit by a car and killed. I thought I would die! It was horrible. My daughter got busy and found Halle right away. At first I resented her a little as I was so used to Chrissi- she was my first pet ever in my 70 yrs. She was like a child to me and I still miss her a lot, Halle has stollen my heart now. I loved having Chrissi lay by my feet, or snuggle up anytime I sat or layed down. Halle will go lay by the door, or on one of her beds but hardly ever sits or lays by me when she gets tired. I am worried she won't be a lap dog. One of the things I love the most is having my dog close to me. I know no one really knows what a pet will turn out like, but I am hoping that she will be more loving. Chrissi was never in a kennel a day, but Halle has been trained to sleep in her kennel and ride in her car seat. Any thoughts that might be encouraging? By the way Halle was 5 months old yesterday. I love this site! You all have given me a lot of great advise. I am not much for writing but thought I should introduce myself. :aimeeyorkAttachment 396745 |
