To Shave or NOT to SHAVE???!!! if you completely shave off a yorkie to the skin, what does he/she look like? |
I have an addition to the question... For puppies, I was told not to shave her until her adult coat comes in, that it might affect the thickness of it. Is this true? Thanks! |
Personally, I wouldn't want to find out. Why would you want to shave them "to the skin?" I can understand a fairly close cut or trim for the summer or just to keep maintenance down if that's a big issue, but to the skin? Seems a little drastic to me. |

For mine, I guess I really meant a close cut, not shave to the skin. I don't like my son to get a buzz, I wouldn't want to see one on Molly either! Carla |
Just a hint: In the heat of the summer you can cut your yorkie back alittle but never shave back because that hair works to insulate them from the heat. Some groomers think less is better but it really isn't. |

well...i've never shaved mine to the skin or would never think of it....she has had a short cut but not a shave... i was lookin around for a stud for my girl...and saw a stud the peaked my interest...i've been keepin in touch with the owner and in the recent email...she said she had her boy shaved completely...she sent a pic with the emaill....HE LOOKS LIKE A CHIHUAHUA!!!!!!!!!! COMPLETELY IDENTICAL!!!!!! now i'm thinkin is that the same dog!????? |
YIKES! It might be. With our first Yorkie, we made the mistake of trying a new groomer when the established one retired. We specified a summer "trim." When I went to pick up my dog, I DID NOT RECOGNIZE HIM. He looked like, as a friend so eloquently said, "a peeled onion." I was ballistic and the poor dog ... he hid under the bed for the first three days. Took the rest of the summer before he even had a puppy cut coat! |

Poor baby...he does look like a Chihuahua, but it's definitely a Yorkie. Just tink of what your baby looks like when she's wet... Attached are a few pics of Chloe during/after a bath. |

I agree that he looks cute, but it still seems a bit drastic! I've only taken Sukoshi to the groomers twice (she's almost 11 months), and I had very little taken off each time - just a trim. I've thought about getting her cut shorter for the summer, but we just love her long hair, and it doesn't seem to bother her. We always have our A/C on if it's warm outside, so she's only subjected to the heat on her walks, and I let her go "naked" during the summer! To cut or NOT to cut is a tough question!!!! Let alone when you're considering a SHAVE!!!! |
WOW! That's cute for a chihuahua, but not a Yorkie!!!:D I can see where you'd be wondering if it's the same dog. You do have to look REALLY hard to see that's a Yorkie! |
What a riot!! See, its pics like that one that YT is all about! Making everybody smile and what not!! LOL!! I am so amused!! Poor little guy!! Wonder if he's having an identity crisis! I could NEVER shave any of my babies like that!! But maybe I could test it on Diablo...(my german shepherd!)...hehe, just kidding!! :p |
i like it !! but wouldnt do it ! lol |

This groomer I used to use cut my baby that short once and he did look like a chi...I was so upset. I even heard a young boy say " look, it's a chi" when we were out walking one day. That's why we don't go to that groomer anymore. That was way too short. He still looked cute though. You can't mess up perfection. ;) |
Oh that poor hairless little guy. :( |
I think he looks like he feels sad with all his hair gone!:( |
