Need help! Pet World needs to be reported. I saw the most disturbing thing. I have been seaching for a new food for Dior and Diesel because of their allergies. After much research I decided on Natural Balance and only 2 stores in my area sells the brand, Petco and Pet World. I decided to go to Pet World since it was closer. From the minute I stepped in there I got a weary feeling. It was Dark and Smelly. I immediately said to myself and my friend " I hope they do not sell puppies in here". As soon as I turned the corner to the food section, guess what I saw. You guessed it! Puppies for freaking Sale! If that wasn't bad enough all of these dogs were on sale because they had been there since April. They had this "Yorkie" that looked mixed with 20 different breeds. I asked the lady working there if these are purebreds. She said yes and asked me if i wanted to play with them. I blurted out "Hell No". These dogs were severly matted, Dirty and eating their feces. They had a freaking grooming facility 5 steps away from the Kennel. They were all barking and crying and I felt so helpless. How do I go about getting this business reported? Better yet SHUT DOWN. |
that is so very sad |
Report it to your nearest humane society. Also, check with your city/town's animal control officer and local laws regarding animal neglect. You may also want to report them to the Better Business Bureau. Good luck and keep us posted. |
I am going to look into it NOW. |
There's some good information at http://www.millbusters.com/forums/index.php These stores NEED TO BE REPORTED - if no one speaks - then no one will hear it. |
We have one in our area that I keep meaning to stop at. Guess I won't be now. I don't like going into pet stores that sell puppies. Makes me so sad. |
I called and they are sending animal control . Hopefully something is done. |

I told her that i would like to be informed. So i will give them a day and visit again tommorow. |
Good for you for calling! We had 2 Pet World stores here, Both have been shut down. :D |
In Fredericksburg by chance? |
This is in Hampton Va. Mercury Blvd. |
They must be pretty much the same. Several years ago I had called animal control on the one in Fredericksburg. I think they were fined and I never did business with them again. I wanted to take all of those pups home.:( |
Go to the website hua.org where you may get more information. This is a group in Auburn, Nebraska, of all places, but they work to eliminate puppy mills. You can email them or call them and get more ideas. They are great. They have taken so many animals from all over, and they will help you figure out what else to do if you need help. Good luck! |
That makes me sick to my stomache hearing things like this and it really makes me mad too. Those poor dogs have been in cages since April? They cant even take them out and grrom them for cripes sake? I would not spend another dollar in there and do some follow up too to make sure this isnt swept under the rug as usual. Good job for reporting them. |
That was my first time visiting that store. I didn't purchase anything from there after i saw the condition of the store and realized that they sold pets. I had nightmares last night. I had to do something about it today. Hopefully i hear something soon. |
a Pet Land just opened up here last month. and so far it looks decent. this is the only place that i know of that sells puppies. they used to sell them at mall pet stores but don't anymore. so i wanted to check it out. i thought the puppies look very sad in their little cubes. especially the bigger breeds. but it looked as though theya had a vet in the store that was there all the time and i also think that the store really ddidn't deal with the puppies cause when i asked the sales lady that stalked me most of the time that i was there:rolleyes: she said she had to ask one of the people in the back with the puppies.... and their yorkies did not look pure breed either. |

Sorry to change the subject, kinda. I have found that the pet store at the corner of Warwick and Oyster Point is really great. Can't remember the name of it right now, but they have a great selection of pet food, to include natural balance. They do sell animals, but just fish and rodents and crickets (we need crickets for my daughter's bearded dragon). Good luck. |

A little Update Animal control called me a few minutes ago and said they didn't see anything of much concern. I asked her if she saw the Bichon and the silky that was severly matted she said no. She also said she didn't see any poop. I told they had probably eaten it already. She said that they had numerous calls about that place and will keep an eye on them. I honestly think all the questions i had asked the employee yesterday prompted them to clean up a bit. I will continue to check in and make sure they are well taken care of. I also noticed when i leaving the store yesterday they were bring pups from the back to front and switching. I will mention that next time. I wish i could do more. I feel so helpless.:( |
Do you have one of thsoe "What's bugging you"? news groups? Or call your local paper and TV news investigators. Raising awareness usually helps. At the very least the pups might get a good bath and grooming.:) |
Re: Conditions of puppies Thanks for letting me know. I'm going to report them to the Humane Society asap.:aimeeyork |

Oh my gosh! How sad!! Poor puppies! I guess you are going to Petco from now on LOL. I got to care a lot and get my food. Have you tried there yet? |
Yea i have but i did a search and they don't sell Natural Balance. They are currently on FROMMS, which i purchase at a dog boutique in Norfolk. |
