Microchip with GPS?
 
Does anyone know if these are available? This way if the dog is taken, you could track exactly where they are. This would cut the theivery down very quickly and help reunite people with their pets. I can't believe someone hasn't designed one yet, but I'm not seeing any around.

Wouldn't that reguire a battery or something to keep it active?....I am not sure but your right - what a goood idea if it would be an option so if our little ones went missing we could track them.

I don't know if they are available, but if they were, I would buy one! It is good to have our babies microchipped, but in the incident that somehow they ran out the door or something (or other freak accident), it is the responsibility of the person who finds them to check for the microchip. If they give him/her to SPCA or another agency, then they will check. The unknown scares me and there aren't many people I trust with my Mia! Let me know if you find a microchip with GPS though! :)

i asked my vet about this when i brought layla in to be microchipped and he said it isn't too far away from being available. :thumbup: :thumbup:

GPS has so many technological advances that they are in our cell phones even!!! Why not our pups too- I agree that it would indeed help with dognapping and lost dogs too!!!

Wow, what a great idea! GPS, would be wonderful...if they can put it into a phone and other items looks like they could come up with a way to include it into a microchip. The collar is an idea, but that can be taken off then your'e back to quare one. Maybe before long they will have a way of tracking these babies.

GPS Microchip...Wow that would be soo awesome!! Im sure once it gets invented, it would cost a lot but if you ask me...It is WAY worth EVERY penny!!! :thumbup: :thumbup: Alright inventors...get to work...im sitting here waiting on it to be invented so I can be one of the first to buy!!! :D

You know, when I first heard about the microchip, I was thinking that is what it was...a GPS device. I was disappointed when I learned it was something different. I'm not getting my furkids microchipped until something like this is available. Tags will suffice for now for me.

Wouldn't that be cool if Zeke had a GPS. I picture the cops kicking in the door and rescuing poor Zeke!Then slapping the cuffs on the dognappers!!! YEAH! Im sure the Police feel they have more important things to do, but we can dream!

Yea I researched it and their are dog collars with GPS but all I found was large ones for like hunting/sport dogs. They really need a GPS microchip..that way it couldnt be removed like a collar can be!

That would be great to get a chip with GPS...whoa, how great would that be.

I like the collars too, but people can easily discard those.....

My vet started using a new chip from Bayer (ResQ) it is suppose to be the most update chip and is readable with all scanners and you get instant registration (universal). Anyone heard of this.....I haven't researched it yet.

with all the recent thefts of yorkies i would hope that someone is working the midnight oil to make this happen.;) gps is amazing. i don't plan on getting romeo chipped unitl next spring - maybe by then it will be available!:thumbup:

The collar is a start, but unfortunately, it's way too easy for someone who wants to steal your yorkie to take it off. It's a start, though.

I think the microchip with GPS is an awesome idea. I'd certainly be willing to pay for it!

I would definitely rechip Lacy if they came out with these. I was just thinkin about this the other day. It would make finding your dog so much easier and hopefully cut down on stealing pets.

my vet was saying that you won't have to re-chip.. they will just use the one already in them.. not sure how that would work.. but he seemed to know what he was talking about :p

HaHa...you know a lot of people are actually afraid that people will eventually be microchipped and tracked by the government...which of course would be a violation of our rights. Surely that wouldn't actually happen though. But I think it's a great idea for our pets!

I know they make watches too for kids. mabe with a little tweeking ;) it would work on a dog.

We need one of these GPS microchip out. I haven't lost my dog, and do not plan to. But I was talking to the breeder that I got CoCo from, and one of the boys from CoCo's litter was stolen out of another buyer’s backyard. But honestly I can't believe that the lady had the decency to let her baby go in her back yard by himself. CoCo is always in the house and when she goes outside to go potty, I am standing there watching her. Then when she is done we go inside. But that would be good incase they are lost in the house or something you can find exactly where they are lol.

My thoughts exactly. If someone steals your dog, the first thing they're going to do is to remove any collars that may identify the dog as being yours. Now, if you're dog is just lost, then yes, it would be beneficial.

I like the GPS Microchip idea. My one question is, if you're dogs are already microchipped (as mine are) then is it possible to easily remove the current microchip in order to insert the new one?

BTW, when I got my dogs chipped, they told me that the chips they were inserting were "universal"...meaning that any wand could read them. WRONG!!! The older wands did not read my dog's chips...SO unless the vet has a new model, it'll be impossible to identify my dogs with the chips.

I was just about to say that they do sell GPS collars . IF your dog was taken or is just missing you would have to track them ASAP because someone could just remove the collar and throw it out.
If a GPS chip was ever made I would DEFFINATELY save up the money to have my dogs get it.
I have seen GPS watches for Kids also...
