Did your breeder meet your expectations? Following the interesting thread posted by a Yorkie purchaser brought up some interesting thoughts for me. I am sure if the question posted was: Did your breeder meet your expectations and complete the contract with you the buyer, a lot of the breeders would be surprised by the responses. Secondly, I would ask the breeders, to ask them selves if they did all they could for the new buyer? Did they follow-up with their buyers? Do they know what those puppies weigh at 6 months, 9 months, a year??? So, did your breeder meet your expectations? Did he/she fulfull their contract with you? Did you do what you needed to do to complete your requirements? What would you have done differently? This is a discussion; no names are needed. |
I had a great breeder She was really wonderful. I bought Kalina from a breeder in Indiana based on a recommendation from another breeder. My breeder sent me pictures of the puppy (two to choose from - each from a different litter) and I was able to see and read about the sire and dam and their pedigrees on her web site. After I chose my puppy, the breeder kept in contact with me and sent me a picture of Kalina every Friday. She answered all my questions and phone calls. I flew to Indiana to get the puppy because I didn't want her shipped and the breeder met me at the airport and was just wonderful. She had all the correct and necessary papers with her and also extra food and a tube of something for hypoglycemia. Since I got Kalina I have called or emailed the breeder whenever I needed to ask something and she has been really wonderful. I will send her puppy pictures from-time-to-time. |

My breeder was awesome at the time I got Meeka and is still awesome. Meeka is my first Yorkie and even though I did a lot of research on the breed, little things still came up that worried me right after I got Meeka. She was always available to talk when I needed her and was full of information. At the time of getting meeka, they talked me threw every thing. They gave me a ton of stuff with her, like toys that she liked, blankets that smelled like her mom and litter mates. Vet records, paper work on signs of hypo and pravo and so on. Of course food, a bed warmer, nutra-cal? (i forget the name). They have followed up, wanting pictures and so on. They are great, so when we decide that we wanted another one we new that we would go get one from them again! Diesel will be ready 8/04! :) |
yes to all of the above questions. i was am very pleased with my breeder. my babies were MORE than i expected. they have the most beautiful coats that i have ever seen on a yorkie. their temperament is wonderful. so far, no health issues. she could only quess the sizes by their parents and grand parents and she was right on target. as a matter of fact, i just got off the phone with her. she wanted sizes of my girls b/c she is making them dresses. |
The breeder I bought McKenzie from was really sweet and nice. I haven't had any problems with Kenz, so I can't really say for sure if she's reputable or not.. or how she would handle issues I did have. But, she had an immaculate house, her puppies seemed happy and well taken care of. Kenzie was freshly bathed and groomed, with a little clippy in her hair, and was super sweet. She only had a few dogs there.. the momma, a boy baby, a Biewer she plans to breed, and I think there was one other dog there that I could hear, but didn't see. (maybe another momma). She was really helpful, wrote her phone number and address all over everything, LOL so I could get ahold of her. And she was hugging and kissing Kenz so much before we brought her home. If she was a scammer or a con artist, I doubt I'll ever know unless I have issues in the future, or she was an amazing actress. :) |
I have been very pleased with all my babies breeders. Not one complaint. I also hope that is said by my babies new parents when they adopt their little one's from me! |
No, not all of them met my expectations but that has just helped me to see both sides and be a better breeder myself. |
My breeder was and is wonderful!! She called me when the litter was born and I was able to go visit them and pick out my baby!!! Her home is immaculate and she owns both parents of my Nathan...her babies are part of the family from the day they are born, all shots given and papers upon pick up and in fact I go to the same vet she has taken her dogs to for the past 8 yrs!! So my vet knows very well of the history of Nathan's parents etc.. We have become good enough friends now that I actually yorkie sat for her at her home with her 6 yorkies and Nathan for a week so she and her family could go on a much deserved vacation and she did not have to worry about her babies!!! So she will be my breeder of choice for my little girl...coming soon!!!!!! :) |
Jake's breeder far exceeded my expectations. She is a wonderful person who takes awesome care of her babies. Her number one priority in breeding is health. She works hard to take care of her dogs, and she loves them and spoils them. I would not hesitate to buy another dog from her. We have stayed in contact, and I'm always sending her pictures of Jake and updates. She loves hearing about him, and I love hearing about all of her dogs. Jake has a very sweet disposition and is extremely healthy. We have become good friends, I consider her like family. She's just a very nice, honest and decent, caring person!!:) |
Deiter's breeder is wonderful. She is a wonderful person. And her #1 priority is also the health of the puppies & dogs. I still talk with her and send her emails and pictures of Deiter. I have even taken him back there so she could see how well he is. I would get another yorkie from her. Maybe later this year I will get a little girl for Deiter to play with. |
No. Not at all. It is my fault because I did not know any better. I couldn't find a breeder near me, and someone suggested the website that I went to. I checked it out, and no red flags raised suggesting a scam, so I contacted the breeder about one of the puppies on his site. He said the pup was still available, then when I called that day he said that he sold that pup, but had another litter that is just about to be ready. I waited, and saw a pic of Paddington and called to reserve him. The breeder asked me no questions about my living situation or anything about whether or not I could actually care for a Yorkie. The answers I got to my questions were very minimal, and he told me that yorkies hardly ever bark excessively, and that they are good around small children (I have a 9 month nephew)I now know that Yorkies bark, and that small children and yorkies really don't mix. I was also led to believe that he was AKC certified, and that there would be papers with him. What I got was a computer printed pedigree. I went back to the website and now see that it never actually said AKC papers, but it sure does ambiguously word it to make someone naive like me think and expect that is what he meant. I have asked repeatedly for pictures of the sire and dam, but my requests have been ignored. He was suppoesed to be de-wormed and I found out from the vet the past weekend that he has round-worm, and probably wasn't de-wormed (makes me wonder if he had gotten his first round of shots as well, as was told to me..?) I was told that I'd get vet records, but what I got was a hand-written record, not an official record. After I had paid for Paddington, I started to worry because the breeder was hard to reach, and for three days before Paddington was supposed to arrive on an airplane, I did not hear from him. I had no idea what the flight plan was until the day I picked him up.I found out from the people at the counter that he did not fly from St. Louis to Cleveland, as I was told (he was so small and I was worried about him making it here without being traumatized) he had been all the way to houston!!! His flight was coming from Houston...???? I had no idea about nutri cal from the breeder- I had read about it on here (Thanks, YT!) I still even wonder if Paddington *is* pure yorkie, or if I was lied to. the older he gets, the more yorkie he looks... his hair is just so darn short! And the fact that there are no pictures of the parents makes me suspicious. I have not had contact with the breeder since I emailed him to ask for pictures of Paddingtons mommy and daddy... the response was "Glad he arrived safely, send pictures of him!" and this was about a month ago... I have heard a lot of people say that their breeders help with any questions they have with raising the puppy...not me! He pretty much ignores my questions. I have my bear now, and I love him to death; that is what matters! I will not ever get a puppy from him again, though! I will do better research. I had never bought a dog before, and had no idea what to look for.I will be better prepared next time! -O |

Now, Milli's breeder was GREAT! I still keep in touch with her, we send pictures and info back and forth. She has 6-7 dogs, 4-5 of which are yorkies. She took one of Milli's sisters back after she had been placed in home because the sister had a genetic problem, and gave the family pick of the litter on the next litter she had. Before she sold to me, we went up to visit, and she asked for a small deposit. She asked LOTS of questions about where Milli would be going home to, about Emma, and about our training practices. She made me sign something that said I would vaccinate, and that I would not use collars, and said if for ANY reason I found I could no longer care for Milli, that she could be returned to her at any time for any reason. Now, that's a great breeder! |
I have 3 dogs, so there are 3 different situations for me! Luigi's breeder.....NO. I found out many things out about her after the fact. I was one of those who did not do any homework before buying a puppy. This breeder had puppies in the paper, and I called. And went and picked Weeg up the next day. But that is my fault for not doing my homework. But Luigi is the BEST!!!!!!!!!! I am happy with him!!!!!!!!!!! Brasco....I love the ladies that took care of him. In the shelter, and his foster mommy! Wonderful! He was my rescue baby! So YES! I still keep in contact with them thru pictures and emails! But ther weren't his breeder. Just rescue families! Livvi.....NO.....I still do not have her papers either. She is registered with IBC. I was promised her papers, and lots of puppy picturs. And over a year later....NOTHING! GRRRRRR! Since I got her when she was a year and a half old, I didn't have her as a puppy. But she is a wonderful little girl! She is my princess! |
I've had 2 wonderful experiences with 2 different breeders. I couldn't be happier!! :) |
NO Absolutely not. Both mine are from same breeder. As far as Standard and pedigree goes YES they have wonderful lines....and are beautiful dogs IMO. But when I got Diggy, I realized how uneducated she is. He had a few problems in the beginning while waiting for diagnosis and and trying to figure out what was wrong she was useless...never offered to help pay for bills just simply wanted to give money back and take Diggy back. Well that wasnt happening so I sucked it up and did what I had to do. I know a lot of people are big into the "guarantees" but really...what good does it do? Unless it gives a time frame in which they will help with the medical bills then I can see it but a money back and returning of puppy may be okay for some for me it isnt. I wanted Diggy taken care of and a Diagnosis, never did I think to give him back for a healthier pup. Someone has to take care of the sick ones...and I am in a position where I can so that wasnt the issue. The issue for me was her lack of concern and her being defensive, and selling him to me at just 7 weeks 4 days...I know thats wrong but if I hadnt taken him and someone else would have and maybe they would not have been in a position to pay for the vet bills as I did. I see it both ways and I am NOT putting down anyone for their thougths, these are mine that's all. So al in all I don't look much into health guarantees as I dont believe I would ever return a pup for any reason. I can see where a person purchasing for breeding reasons may need a health guarantee and find it useful. Again ....I am not saying anything bad about anyone here...just my opinion. Oh I forgot to mention how flippin dumb my breeder is....lol She did not know what a Bile Acid test was let alone what its for, and argued with me that NONE of her pups had ever had a liver issues so this Bile acid test I was doing was a waste of money...now that ticked me off, as most yorkies owners know Liver Issues ARE NOT proven to be hereditary it can happen to the best most catious breeder in the world. He was having seizures, FULL BLOW, he pooed and peed himself, he drooled, and he shook and stiffened up....7 times in 7 hours! Now granite it ended up being hypo but still....If your pup seemingly healthy as can be wakes up in the middle of the night seizuring, pooping and peeing himself, he seems to have temporary blindness, he ran in erratic patterns whining....Think I am crazy for requesting a Bile Acid??? She actually said I was putting him thru unnecessary testing....ohhh I was HOT! With as common as Liver Issues are in this breed I would seriously recommend every yorkie owner to have one done as symptoms are not always present. Just some of my thoughts.... |
My breeder met my expectations regarding the contract and the majority of the transaction. She is young and has a long way to go on becoming a business person. For example, I would email her with a question and it would take days to get a response. She was helpful when she communicated. I would consider buying from her again, but might be more inclined to go with her mother who has more experience. Customer service is just as important when dealing with a breeder as it is when dealing with any other merchant, and probably more so, IMO. |
Good responses. I like to hear what worked well and what didn't. We often think of the could of, would of, should of questions after the fact. How about the rest of you? |
All the breeders I have gotten my furbabies from have been great!! They have met my expectations and I very happy with them!! I still stay in touch with them on a regular basis. |
Teddy's breeder did not meet my expectations. She never emailed me again after i got him, when i went to pick him up at the airport she didn't even call to make sure he got here okay, i called her. I think she had a puppy mill or something....at that time i didn't know much about breeders, now i know tons. London's breeder is really nice and i am satisfied with her. They were so sweet and i still keep in touch with them. |
I think I should have known more before I got Layla. I didn't meet my breeder before I picked up Layla, but I had my dad go out and check out the place and see her since she lived about a half hour from my parents house. Now, my dad didn't know a whole lot about Yorkies or breeding, and he told me it was a really good place. He said she had Layla and another bigger dog in the kitchen and they were running around and playing the whole time. So he put down a deposit for me, and I was picking her up 2 weeks later! When the day came and I drove out there, all I heard were barking dogs. She has a heated kennel outside where the puppies live. The bottom of the kennel was open so the dogs could see what was going on outside but it was the middle of december and freezing! We went inside and she had Layla in a little travel crate on the kitchen floor. She was so scared to come out! She was crying until I held her. The breeder explained to me the contract and yadda yadda yadda, wondered what hours I would be home with Layla, and told me to call her if I had any concerns! After a couple days at home I noticed that she kept biting her feet and scratching her head... she actually scratched so hard she had little scabs on her scalp! When I took her in for her shots I asked the vet about it and found out she had a bad yeast infection in her ears and probably a food allergy. The breeder had her on Eukenuba so that's what I was using. I thought at the time it was a good food! Knowing what I know now, I don't think I would have chosen this breeder. But I wouldn't trade my Layla for anything in the world! |
I received GiGi from a person other than her breeder but i did contact her breeder, Nancy Hoenig, to tell her that I had just received one of her puppies. She answer all my questions about mom/dad and her breeding in general. I was very pleased. She asks me lots of questions about GiGi and her health/personality. So even though it isnt exactly the same, I was very pleased. |
My breeder was wonderful and has great quality puppies!! I have been lucky enough to have been brought into her breeding lines as well. She is mentoring me since I have gotten into breeding Yorkies also. I started breeding in Northern California cause there wasn't alot of reputable breeders in this area and I just love my Yorkies. I would like to show some day and will strive to better the breed, temperament and such with my yorkies till the day I can start showing them. |
I forgot until this moment that I never got the AKC paperwork for my teapot yorkie. Some of my friends who are breeders are holding dog's registrations still waiting for proof of pups being spayed or neutered. |
I have been really pleased with Chewy's breeder. Right off the bat, she sent me lots of pictures of Chewy and of his mom. She answered a ton of questions. I also liked how she didn't say exactly how big he would get, she said she thought he would be 4 or 4 1/2 lbs., but he could be bigger. She also really described his personality, and when I got him, her description fit him to a tee. She went through a lot of effort to get him here safe, sent me lots of stuff that she thought I needed. Called me daily to see how he was doing, and to answer any questions I might have. After he was grown, she wanted to know what he weighed. All in all, I have been pleased and would buy from her again! |
I've been looking for reputable yorkie breeder for over two years this month. I've met some that I thought ok and some that really surprised me, acted nothing like their website portrayed. I have finally been put on a wait list for one breeder that I am comfortable with but am always keeping my eyes open for other. I never realized how hard it would be to find the perfect yorkie puppy for me. |
I did a lot of research before finding a breeder, especially since I didn't know all too much about breeders. Their website look reputable so after putting their names through a search engine to see if there were any bad articles & etc. on them, I decided to contact them. Fortunately, the breeders were really helpful & answered all the questions that I had. They were a husband & wife who lived in Missouri & seemed really nice. One of them even told me that the puppy who I saw on their website was a bit bigger than the rest of the it's brothers & sisters but I'm not picky about weight. Bobby's already 4lbs at 3 months, LOL! They said they mentioned it since they didn't want me to try & return him since he was bigger but I had no intention of that. I was just in love with his little face! After we finalized the sale, she kept in contact with me daily until I got Bobby, which was reallly good. She called & emailed me on how his vet visits & just to tell me how he was. I was going to fly out to go get him but due to a family death I couldn't & instead she came out herself with him. It was really nice of her! It's been about 3 weeks & he seems really healthy & VERY active. Bobby's such a joy to have around & I couldn't have asked for a better puppy. The breeders & I email each other back & forth still - especially when I take him to the vet or get him groomed. And although I received him without an AKC registration, I'm still pleased. :) |
From what I've seen on yorkietalk about many breeders, makes me real happy with Venus's breeder. She'd registered the puppies when she was supposed to. I didn't get Venus till she was I think 10 weeks old. And she gave me enough kibble to last a very long time! And she also gave me a brand new tube of Neutra-Cal, told me what it was for, and to give it to her those first few days. She even gave me some treats Venus loved, for the hour ride back home. I was very impressed with her kennels, although I have nothing to compare them to. They were all heated and ac, and each one had long runs for the dogs. She only breeded Yorkies also. I knew nothing about breeders when I got her, although I'd had Adonis for 5 years. I was much more impressed with where I got Venus from than Adonis. She's a beautiful dog too now! Long straight (not a cotton coat like Adonis) silky hair. I've had absolutely NO health problems at all with her. And come August will have her 1 year. I've read so many things about breeders on here, really makes me glad I wound up with the lady I had. Was much worth that hour drive to Pace FL. |
It says good things about this forum and the breeders and the members that both sides of buying, selling, and obtaining a puppy can be discussed. |
I am very pleased with Aubreys breeder. I didn't know much to ask her, but with me getting Dakota, I asked her a million questions.. should have told her I was a member of YT and thats where I got them all from :). I love the fact that Aubreys breeder allowed me to call her a couple times a week just to check on him, and she would talk to me for about an hour each time!! Shes wonderful!!! |
