This is a great idea! The phermones in these would relax him, if they work on him. |
You can also try Rescue Remedy drops. I got mine at Petsmart and they also help to calm them down. |
Hi ILuvLucy - I'm not familiar with those drops..will they make him sleepy? Or will he be the same just more mellow? |
You may need to really play with him so he gets all pooped out - then try to get him to sleep in his little crate where he can see you. I didn't use a crate with either of mine but Cheri screamed in her playpen - all she wanted was me to hold her. The second I brought her to sleep with me - she never made another peep. They do get scared and lonely...once you get into a routine he should get better but while he's a baby - playing with him right before bed should help tire him out so he doesn't cry I'd feel the same way - I got my 1st yorkie only AFTER I was laid off my job - but now they're super dependent on me so I really didn't do them any favors ... good luck - oh and maybe something you wear with YOUR scent on it will help soothe his fears |
Is there a chance that he might sleep with you? Four of mine do and they sleep all night. The 5th yorkie sleeps under the bed (her choice). We have very peaceful nights with them in the bed and they have never had accidents there. They also don't move around much once they settle in. They each have their own personal space. They just go to it and crash. You might give it a try.... |
Hi Red! Hi BDB! Yes, last night I finally gave in at 2 in the morning and put him on the bed...the problem is..he doesn't sleep...he runs around on the bed..he didn't fall asleep until 4:30 am. I watched him sleep until 5:00 am then got up. Of course he woke up..so I brought him down so he can potty and put him in his pen so that I can get ready for work..of course he flipped out again... |
Take V's advice and really wear him out before going to bed. Don't let him take naps in the evening when you are home. Play fetch or whatever he likes till you can get him on a schedule. Also, be firm with him when you put him in the bed (use your stern voice). Absolutely no playing until he has the sleep routine down. (Then you can introduce playing before settling down.) Two of ours thought it was a great time to play, but the above suggestions worked for us. Good luck! Oh... and keep him in the bathroom with you until you are ready to walk out the door. You might try running the TV while you're gone also. It keeps them company. |
Perhaps you have a towel or blanket that has the scent of your old home? Maybe you could put that in the crate with him. he is truly adorable by the way!! |
Aw, Gizmo is a cutie! Maybe he is just adjusting to his new home... maybe he feels scared... just play with him and show him it inst all that bad. :) |
