I'm so glad you're ok. I would be scared out of my mind. I'll just deal with hurricanes here in Florida. There scary enough. |
I'm glad to hear you're okay! Boy, I don't think I could live through those without getting a heartattack! Thank goodness I've never felt one down in Texas or I would have moved somewhere else! |
i live in NJ we get nothing here. i'm glad your all ok. i've never been in an earthquake or anything. the only things we get are hurricanes but they only last a few hours and knock down a few trees (when they acctually knock down anything) i heard about all the hurricanes in florida and stuff. my friend was cought in one down there on vacation. |
My family lives in San Francisco and that is what I always worry about with them. I will take a tornado any day, we have some kind of warning...like right now in the middle of all the nasty storms we have right now. |
No big deal Hey Villette, no big deal. I was laying on my bed reading the papers, and the bed started shaking (and my bed weighs over five hundred pounds, takes four guys to carry in the headboard, not counting the footboard) and I glanced up noticed my bird feeder was rocking and rolling, and went back to the paper. We are so used to the earthquakes, that you will stop what you are doing, say, oh, we just had an earthquake and continue on with what you are doing. I have been in all the "big" ones since 1955 and it is just a part of living in California. I used to work for a company that specialized in seismic damage and retrofit, when things got slow, we would say a little pray for a "little" earthquake, no deaths, just one to shake things loose a bit LOL. |
yes!!!Earthquake in California! Thanks for the concern Villette...I live in Burbank and it's like an hour and a half from the epicenter of the earthquake which is in Ansa...yes...5.6!!! My babies were running after each other like maniacs...which they always do...it was still early and we're just waiting for their Dad to wake up when all of a sudden I heard something rattling and shaking so I thought they were being so hyper again so I shouted for them to stop it and try to settle down for a while...but the shaking didn't stop and that was when I realized that it was an earthquake and not my little yorkie babies...it was short though but nevertheless scary...so we ran to our bedroom and woke up my husband... |

LOL!! :D I would love, love, love to live in Southern California, but my boyfriend is convinced that it's going to fall into the ocean one of these days because of an earth quake! I'll have to tell him about your post. How intense does an earth quake have to be to do some real damage? How often does that level of an earth quake happen? I'm always trying to think of one thing or another to convince him to move. I'm hoping one of these days I'll irritate him enough and he'll just give in! |

I've never experienced one and hope I never do - that has to be the absolute scariest thing - the earth MOVING beneath our feet - no way would I be calm....I'm so glad it didn't do the damage we always hear about - and I really hope that's the last one out there for a long time ! I'm so glad you all survived yet another Mother Nature Roar |
Really not that bad, but you do not want to live here I have lived through the 71 earthquake, barely effected us, I lived through the Whittier narrows earthquake, saw a few buildings fall down, no big deal, lived through the Loma Prieta one, no big deal for us here in SoCal, the Nrothridge one, I was about 40 miles north of it, no big deal, lost power for a day, believe me, it is not going to fall into the ocean. Have more trouble with rain, mudslides and landslides. But you do not want to live here, rents are outrageous 1 bedroom old apt = $1k a month, houses over $2k per month (these are old places too) new homes $650k for a 30-40 year old 1500 square foot house, traffic sucks, gas at $2.50 a gallon, to go 20 miles to work, an hour to an hour and 15 minutes, lines everywhere. Cost of a movie ticket $10, Disneyland $55 for admission. Dinner for two, no drinks at a nice, non-chain place = $200. I am getting to hate Southern California and am making plans to get out of here ASAP. And I have lived here for most of my life. Go to the Beach (if not closed due to pollution) parking spot takes an hour or two to find, people 20 inches away from you on the sand, go skiing, takes 4 hours to get there (2 hour drive in distance anyplace eles), wait in line forever to get on the ski lift, etc. etc. etc. Gangs are everywhere even in "nice" neighborhoods. I want OUT |
I'll take the hurricanes on the east coast to the earthquakes anyday. Stay safe on the west coast |
Bummer!!!!!! |

What does everyone else say? Any other Californians on YT?? |
I am from California and I love it here. I know it must sound crazy to most of you but I dont mind the earthquakes at all. I've lived in the San Fran Bay Area for 31 years and only experienced 2 earthqakes over 6 on the ricter scale (sp). Luckily both times no one I knew was hurt and my home wasnt damaged. Earthquakes come on as a surprise, as soon as your relized your shaking its over so its not that bad. They only last a few seconds and you go back to what you were doing. I know a lot of bad things can come of them, mudslides, injury etc. but thats not too common. We have small earthquakes a few times a year and I am not even phased by them. I would take an earthquake over a huricane anyday. With huricanes, tornados and the other natural disasters around the US you have days or even weeks to worry yourself about them and they can be quiet devistating once they hit. With earthquakes we never think about them till we start shaking, its over in seconds and thats it. They cause little to no damage most of the time, it seems like only once every 10 years or so there is a significant one that does cause damage. The odds aren't that bad ;) |
