How much do you pay for stool analysis? My vet did the first stool testing a couple weeks ago when Luigi was having a small case of diarrhea, and I found out he had some hookworms. He got some medication for it this week and I turned in a 2nd stool specimen yesterday for them to recheck if he still has the worms (now i'm just waiting for the results). I had to pay $50 for EACH test, even the rechecking one. I'm just wondering if this price range is normal or if I should be outraged haha. How much do you all pay for the tests? (i hope that's not too rude to ask :p ) I just hope he doesn't have anything else wrong and that the worms are freaking gone, because I don't want to cough up ANOTHER $50 for them to recheck his stool again! :thumbdown Thanks again ;) |
that's expensive! my vet charges $12 for the stool sample, but I always have to pay for the visit, so it's never just that |
$25.00 here. |
$28.50 (I am in California) It was done during a routine visit for puppy shots |
 I go to two different vets and its 12 at one vet and 15 at the other. If my kids don't need to get seen for anything other than that, I can just drop a stool sample by the vet so he doesn't charge an office visit. |
 WHAT THE CRAP? aw, i'm so upset now :( The vet is REALLY great, but should i just do future stool testing somewhere else? (like Vetco..maybe they're cheaper?) I'm in southern california, i thought maybe that had to do with pricing but i guess not? i can't believe i've dropped 100 bucks already for this crap (literally  ) if i do testing somewhere else (although I hope I dont need to do anymore testing for awhile after this whole hookworms thing), do i just bring any records/results from the cheaper place to my vet's office and then they can give meds/take care of whatever problem (if there is one) that they found through my dog's stool? blahhh!!! kasfkljlaksdfd thanks for alerting me though, everyone =) now in the future, maybe i can save money. |
That does seem awfully hefty. I know Ozzie's test were half that. I'd have to dig up a bill to be sure, but it seems like it was $14 or $15 before he was admitted and when they checked again when we brought him in for a follow-up it was like $10. |
I doubt that your vet would accept stool analysis from another vet. What I do is I have one vet that does shots and anything minor like suspected worms since he is very cheap and doesnt charge anything for office visits (Slade got his 3 rounds of puppy shot for less than $100) then I got to another vet for anything more serious (he charges over $100 for each set of shots  ) |
I pay $14 for it at my Vet's office. It's called a "floating" sample? Yet I have a friend who is a Vet and she charges $50....she says they send them out to a Lab because the results are more accurate. hmmm...sounds like her clients pay her and the lab. |
YIKES!!!! Our samples are a flat $18.00 (re-checks, too). |

I'm definitely going to be calling up different clinics (including Vetco again..where I take my jack russell terrier) and start comparing prices in the next couple days so I can get the best deals! Thanks again for the wake up call ;) |

The Vet School was over $100 EACH pup.... but I will do whatever it takes to get this over with.... 4 with the runs is NO FUN! My vet only charges $16 for normal samples but these were the "specialist" tests... . dont feel too bad.... |
I haven't found yet that having two vets pose any major problem. I keep a folder myself of all their vet records just in case. If anything major, major like cancer were to happen I would have to go to a 3rd vet in Savannah cause I don't any of the ones in my immediate area would be capable to handle it. |

All three of mine had the runs at one time and the floating stool tests were $16.50 but they also did a special test for Giardia (sp?) on one of the stool samples and that was an extra $30.00. I think the simple floating test tests for all sorts of worms so I think your vet is extremely high. My old vet charged $25.00 for the floating test. Doesn't it just chap your hide that vets vary so much in price?? I was getting so disgusted with what my old vet was charging that I started with a different vet. He is about half the price of the old one and he seems wonderful. I think prices vary by where you live too. The bigger city vets can charge a lot more than the small town vets. If I were you, I'd look around for a different vet. Good luck! |
Hi, I was just complaining about this the other day. We also pay about $50 here in MD and this does NOT include a re-check. :thumbdown This price is about the same with all the vets in my area. It sure does stink when you have four dogs and just want to have a basic stool check done. :( $200 to check four dogs poo, seems so not right. :thumbdown |
$50.00 per poo? I think Im gonna go into business. Start sending them to me ladies! Ill check them! HA HA:lol tears |

It's $16.50 here at my vet in S.C....and it was sent off to a lab also... |
These stool tests I get for $50 are (like i said before) sent to the labs and they check for everything...worms and even giardia included. But if y'all are getting the same tests done for much lower prices in fecal tests, then I'm hightailin' it to somewhere else :D I'm wondering if these fecal tests you guys get for your furbabies check for everything or just specific worms? I know sometimes the price goes up depending on what you want to check for. For instance, if you wanted to get heartworms checked, you just pay X amount. But if you wanted to check for heartworms and tapeworms, then you pay more. Is this the case for you guys? |
Mine charges $15 and I'm able to drop it off. I don't have to bring the kids in so I don't get charged for an office visit either. |
costs Id say it depends if your getting charged and office visit too...Fecal with office viisit here is 45 just fecal is 19.00 |
I just went and paid $18.50 |

heartworm is a totally different type of worm and requires a totally different type of test. Blood is needed for this test so it has nothing to do with the fecal. |

HAHAHAHAHA! Love that response ... here I pay about $35.00 a poop ... and if I merely drop it off, that is the price, if the baby gets seen, add $49.50 to that. |
My vet charges $8 for a stool test. |
I think it's about 17-20 bucks depending on what is done/tested for. |
My vet charges $10.00 for worm testing |
