thats cool... yeah i know its a given about the food section and restaraunts. but stores in general. i think they should allow it. i took mine for his first outing on the 29th. to pay bills.. we went in the bank, a furniture store and the cable company. but i dont know if our walmart and other stores like that will allow me to bring him . |
I don't blame the stores for having a no dogs allowed policy. Think about it. If they did allow dogs they could not discriminate on size, and there are too many large dogs who would love to establish territory by marking on everything, and look at all those clothes hanging down. Then there are fear biters, and with little toddles and kids in those stores, I'm sure the law suits from biting dogs would put them out of business. |
yeah thats true... |

yeah i didnt think it all the way through lol. big dogs gotta have the love too :) i guess what i meant to say is they should make more stores that all dogs can go into . LOL |

Sorry not in Walmart or any Grocery Store! I love all Animals, especially my 3 Yorkie's and I'm sure everybody loves their Pets as well, but if I ever see any Dog of any size or any Breed in Walmart or any other Dept. Store that has food - Target etc. I would report it to the Store Manager, I'm Sorry but I have to draw the line here I don't want any one's "Pet" near or around any Food that I may or may not purchase! Besides there are alot of different People that go to Walmart and not all People are "Dog Lover's"? It sounds foriegn to us since we are all Yorkie Fanatics. The thought of any dog around food does not sit well with me. What about my Human Right? All 3 of mine are bathed twice a week, and 2 of them even sleep with me. I take them every where except Walmart and Target for that very reason, out of respect for others. And if they were allowed in there I wouldn't take them and I would never try to sneek them in either, it just seems wrong and gross! But that's just my opinion and feelings sorry if anyone got offended, that was not my intention. Aloha |
This topic comes up entirely to often... It reminds me of politics. |
You have to think about the liability for the stores. What if they allow all dogs and one bites someone? What if some of these dogs haven't had all their shots or something? There's no way to check, unless they have someone stand at the door and check vet records that people would be required to bring with them. They can't have dogs peeing and pooping all over, and I sure wouldn't want to step in it while I'm shopping. Of course, you wouldn't want dogs around any food. There's so much to be considered, there's just no way to do it. And could you imagine the people who are not as responsible as others? It could end up being a nightmare, so I understand why they don't allow dogs in stores. |

i feel the same way, also alot of people are allergic or have pet allergys, i just wouldnt wanna take that chance |
Our babies right to go in stores Gracie has a Vera Bradley carrier that looks like a large shoulder bag. We take her everywhere in it--except restaurants (unless there is an outdoor seating area) and grocery stores. Last night she went to Borders with us and was quiet as a mouse and just happy to be "hanging" on one of our shoulders. Nobody in the store even guessed we had a dog. Wed. we went to a restaurant with an outdoor patio and she sat down under the table, in her bag, the entire time we ate and just slept. The waitress never even noticed her nor did any other customers. I have to say the carrier has the most comfy pad in the bottom and she just settles right in. |
sorry... you can delete the post if ya want.. i guess i should have put more thought into it before posting. |
Recently on the way home from the vet, I had to stop in at Walmart to grab some supplies. I stopped at the service desk and asked if I could bring Gizmo in with me. I explained that it was wayyy too hot to leave him in the car. The manager told me that they never have a problem with small dogs in carriers. They just have to STAY in the carrier and NEVER be put on the floor. If they start whining or barking, we would also be asked to leave. (That didn't happen - he was an angel). Different stores have different policies I'm sure, but in this case it was better than leaving him in a hot car. I could have gone home and then gone back to the store, and I would have if the manager hadn't been as agreeable. Most people didn't even notice him. |
Perhaps the original poster meant bringing her dog into a store while on a leash....I could see the problem with that. In a carrier, as people have mentioned, it doesn't seem to be a big deal. Then again, ours doesn't whine or bark. |
I just got back from Lowes and I took Hannah in with me. She stood in the buggy and several associates seen her and didn't say a word, actually 2 of them talked to her. I can understand why stores would have a no dog policy though. My daughter thinks that it should be ok as long as they never touch the ground. I think that there should be a "yorkie only" policy at stores......:D |
i understand now.. but i agree too Yorkie-only policy! lol |
I don't agree with the idea where dogs are allowed in stores. Maybe some stores but not all. I wouldn't want to bring home anything with another dog's pee on it. That would be gross! |
I take Lacy almost everywhere with me including work everyday, the mall, most stores, and even to the tanning salon (she's in her carrier so she doesn't get exposed to the light). I've never taken her into a grocery store and hardly ever into restaurants. She went into McAlisters once in her carrier and we've sat on the patio of On The Border several times. I wish we could carry our little dogs with us everywhere as well. So far as grocery stores - have you seen some of the nasty people that walk around and grubby kids?? I've seen a couple men before that look like they have been working outside in the hot sun all day, dirt all over them, nasty clothes, body odor to kill..look like they haven't had a bath in a week. I would absolutely much rather have someone's dog around my food than someone like that. I do take my dog in anywhere that doesn't have food for sell...if they ask me to leave I will and I probably won't go back to shop there. I used to take her into Target with me until they stopped it because they sell some food...now I don't go to Target nearly as often...I have snuck her in in her carrier before though. Walmart also doesn't' allow dogs - I don't ever go to Walmart because I hate walmart - not because they allow dogs but for quite a few other reasons. I'd much rather go to Target than Walmart, but I always try to stick to places that let me take my baby in with me. I've only been asked to leave a mall once (the one in my parent's small town that sucks..most big city malls are fine with small dogs) and Target once when they stopped allowing dogs in my town. Other than that, in our 2 1/2 years together, we haven't had any problems going anywhere. |
i agree... some of the people that i see in there are nasty looking. id rather have my dog in there then them ... lol i guess i should have posted it as i wish we could take our babies into all stores that would allow it or make more stores that are dog friendly! i caused too much of a stir up i think.. sorry it was just on my mind. |
if they are in carriers, then why can't they be allowed inside???? |
i live in a small town so all i have is walmart and kmart. and the common hardware stores which i dont go in there. we have a strip mall you cant even call it a decent mall. so theres not too many places i can take him w/me around here. but man he sure loves to ride in the car. he falls asleep in his car seat ... he is soooo cute |

Wal-Mart won't allow them in if it's a superstore, because of the food and what not. My friends always get a way with it though. They either have them hidden under their arm, with their little heads just popping out, or placed in their bag, with their little head popping out as well. |

i think that as long as its not somewhere that sells food and they are in their carriers its shouldnt be a big deal i could understand if the dog is barking and disrupting things than you should be asked to leave but other than that i think they should be aloud in stores. |
