Those of you who went from full coat to puppy/summer cut...any regrets? I know I want maggie in full coat but I have often thought about giving her a puppy cut just to get some of the puppy hair off of her. I really love her long hair but it isn't really laying very pretty at all and it is all i can do to keep it looking decent for more than 5 minutes. and I know it is because she still has so much of that puppy hair. I'm confident that when her adult coat grows totally in, it will be beautiful. so i'm wondering....if you have gone from full coat to puppy cut or summer cut...do you regret it??? do you miss the full coat?? i just dont want to regret it. i know i will long for the day when it is long and beautiful...but do you think i should do it????? |
I cant tell you to do it or not do it, thats up to you, I got dixie's hair cut short, dont get me wrong I like the cut, but all her black hair is gone, she is silver now where the black should be with black coming in under it......and I have no idea why :( her hair was pretty long when it was cut....I liked it long but I couldnt keep her looking nice either for very long......good luck with your decision. |
we accidentily (grandma's fault) from a VERY long coat... not full.... to VERY short... and after the inital shock.. i loved it.. EXCEPT it happeend in January and she froze... was always in a sweater... it is now 6 months later and her coat is about 2 inches long and i think in time for Fall we will shave her down again... the snow clumps too much with a full coat! i coudlnt' BELIEVE how soft she was when her hair was all chopped off! |

what do you think??? here she is with the very first puppy cut she got...at 16 weeks (i don't think they did very good and i like the longer hair on face and hair). and here she is now... |
I cut Zoey's hair and eventually her bangs also. I am not sure I ever want to let the bangs grow out again. I will let her hair grow though, it looks like one hair cut a year in the spring may be perfect. |

i have to get around hubby tho. i made him promise not to let me cut her hair...especially after seeing a beautiful adult yorkie with a full coat. that is what i long for...but we have to get around this puppy hair at some point. |
try a schnauzer cut ... it keeps the hair long on the skirt and shorter on the top ... just be sure to tell them how you want the bangs and face done .... |
I think they feel better with it cut short for the summer. Ally, in my avatar has only hair on her head, I shaved her down to nothing on Tuesday. 1/4 inch and she looks like a little rat! But such a cute little body under all that hair.;) |

Bless her little heart. She is so cute but she doesn't look too pleased with her new hairdo in that second photo. That is a cute harness that she has on- May I ask what kind it is & where you got it? :) |
I gave Reeses an almost puppy cut. Its not quite puppy cut but it is much shorter than I usually keep his hair. I keep it medium length where the tips of his hair is halfway between his body and the floor. It is now very short and I dont like it as well as the longer "hair-do" but his hair seems to grow pretty quick so Im not too worried about it. Lol. ;) |
I trimmed his face and I'm not really happy with it. I loved it long. His body never gets too long, so I left it - the groomer just cleaned it up a bit. The truth is though, I think he's better off. He's drinking more and his beard was always wet, it's raining a lot here, so he doesn't look so scraggly, and it's like having long hair or short hair on us in the heat. Short is cooler. Actually, the groomer said it doesn't make much difference since they don't have the second coat and their coats are hair, not fur. |
well, last night i sat down to trim the hair on her feet and was brushing through the rest of her hair and i just dont know if i can do it. i really don't. i love her long hair..i just wish it would lay better. i'm so torn :( |
It depends how hot it is where you live. It's easy to keep (I think) when it's all the same length, if their hair is silky, because it just falls back into place when they shake.:D |
I would love to have Sophie in the long coat, but it just doesn't grow out nicely and gets pretty tangled. She looks so cute in the puppy cut, but we try not to have her look shaved. She seems to be happiest when I don't need to bush her too much. She hates being brushed, and with the puppy cut it is easier to keep her tangle free.;) |

No regrets. I cut Teddy's hair myself cause 1. It was hot and 2. He had tons of knots! So I cut his body hair down and all the knots came out. I left his face long like Layla and his leg hair. It is so cute and he is incredibly soft and shiny too! |

I swore I would not cut Xena's hair, but after two trips the the ER and two shaved front legs later, I cut her hair so it would be more even. Not super short, but about 2" all around her body and left her head hair long. I have to say, it's soooo much easier to brush/comb now. I am convinced it was the puppy hair that made it difficult before. Her hair just feels much better. I will be letting it grow to full coat though.:p |

Slade never had long hair but about a month after I got him it was getting hot and he already had about 1.5 inches of hair so I thought it would be cute to shave his whole body but his head and give him a mohawk on his head. Bad idea. it looked cute in my mind, in reality not so much. Now Im letting him grow out. He's 5 mnths and has hair almost 2 inches now, but I wish I wouldn't have shave that first bit off. He isn't purebred so I'm really anxious to let him grow out and see how long he gets. |
I cut most of my dogs down and of course didnt have a clue of what I was doing. I dont regret that I cut them, just that I didnt figure out how to make a cute puppy cut and I jsut shaved them down. The one I regret mostly is Louie. I almost cried when I got done with him. I know they all feel so much better and my workload was cut in half so that is good. I know its only hair and it will grow back but it still makes me sad to look at them now. |
love the summer cut I groom my baby myself and have gone from letting EVERYTHING grow out to the floor to the summer cut and several in between styles... The long hair was beautiful, for a very short time! What a mess! It posed a hygiene problem first of all. We did a butt cut but still collected grass and fleas so I did the legs very short, still grass and fleas. (we live in Louisiana!) I did what I guess is called the puppy cut. It is about 2-3 inches long, legs are still short from the last cut. It is SO cute. I also trimmed the mustache short, it was always in her mouth! Left the beard long just shaped it nicely. I cant really tell the difference except there is no hair in her mouth. Butt is still CLOSE. I like to cut just the middle of the bangs short. She still has bangs but they stay out of her eyes. She doesnt like a topnot. Good luck. They are so cute I think you will like any cut you give her. |

techno challenged I dont have pics, could take some but I dont know how to put them on  Sorry!! |
2 Attachment(s) We went from really long hair to much shorter hair and I'll probably never go back to letting his hair get that long. I love the look of a full coat but for me I found it just too much work. I cut his hair myself in May. Here's a before and after. :) |
