Look what Hannah caught, now she is sick.. 1 Attachment(s) Hannah caught a snake! It is just a garder snake but now she is vomiting. She started eating grass shortly after catching the snake and then she vomited. She didn't bite it too hard because it doesn't have any broken skin. She and Heidi (the new kitten) was chasing and pawing the snake...( I guess Hannah and Heidi are fearless together, Bentley doesn't get into anything). |
oh my goodness i hope she is okay. What did you do after--take her to the ER/what did you give her? I hope it really is just a garden snake. I hope she starts getting better soon! I'm so sorry --what a scare!! |
OMG--that is scary!!!! I do not like snakes and I hope Emmy and Oscar do not like them either!!! I am so glad it wasn't a poisonous one! |
We don't have a er vet here and my vet is not in today. She has not vomited any more, I will watch her close. |
Did you give her some Benadryl? |
That's a garder snake? I always thought they were more black. Did it bite her? I think I'd take her in. |
What I want to know is how the heck did you stay calm enough to put the snake in a jar??? |
How is she feeling now? |

Scary!!! I thought garter snakes were black with the long yellow stripes running down on each side of it's body. I have had one of them in my yard this summer and I screamed when it ran out from a bush I was watering. Luckily, my Zachary has never seen it yet. You might want to look up snakes on google and compare pictures to see what it is for certain. I am glad your baby isn't throwing up anymore, it could have been from all the excitement of finding that ugly and scary snake. |

I think it is a young garter snake. There are a lot of different species and they look different. They don't all have yellow strips. Garter snakes also secrete a funky smelling fluid when they are scared so that could be what made her sick. |
I think it looks like a rat snake. They are harmless. They also can get HUGE!! Yuck, Yuck & Yuck!! |
It could be this: Checkered Garter Snake, Thamnophis marcianus. Maybe a young one. That's kind of what it looks like to me. They are native to the Southern part of the US. |
That is your new pet snake; her name is Heather! LOL :p |
awww...poor baby! garter snakes give off a smelly secretion when they're scared. that's probably what is making her vomit. |
Geez, I hope she is feeling better. What is with you acquiring all of these new pets all of a sudden? What are you going to name this one? |
:aimeeyork Our Garter snakes are also black with stripes. Never seen one that looks like that! |
The picture just made me quiver...I hate snakes!! I just want to know how you get it in a jar? I think the little thing would be dead if it were near me!! |

My initial thought is a brown snake based off the pics, but I really don't know. Creeps me out either way. http://www.kentuckysnakes.org/ |
Oh wow, I hope she's ok and just looking at that snake scares me. |

Maybe its not a garder snake but that is what I always called them. I do know that whatever kind it is it is not poisonous though, and that is all that matters.....:) . The biggest scare is that my nephew was sitting on the ground right next to them.... . I took Hannah for a walk and she is fine now. Her ususal rotten self...;) |
omg iam so glad she is ok, but i cant beleive you could put that nasty thing in a jar:eek: iam so afraid of snakes, i would of freaked, good for you for taking action:) |
i think snakes are super cool but i would freak out if my daughter or one of my doggies got ahold of one. but i would put it in a jar too :) so...you gonna keep it??? ;) |
Does it look like a baby or full grown? If a baby, do you think there's more? |
Whew! Glad she is feeling okay. Snakes are covered w/ bacteria too (or so I heard)....YUCK! Mojo found a huge garder snake here, it was in my flower bed, but my daughter seen it and snatched Mojo up. I tried to get it and that thing was HUGE...it was about 4ft long...black w/ yellow stripes. Never seen one that big. Garder snakes are all so different, I can't remember how many different types there are....and they vary is color, size, etc. |
I am glad that Hannah did not get hurt! Yucky snake...I am NOT fan of them!! Tammy |
