edgar is getting better about running to me in the driveway instead of up the street and around the corner. but: i just got a gentle leader and it helps with the "pulling" so much. amazing how strong a 10-13lb dog can be when he wants to pee/sniff/sniff and pee/eat some crap off the sidewalk! |

My baby follows me everywhere in the house, he even sits on the carpet outside of the bathroom for me but the minute we are outside he turns into a little devil and starts pulling to the point where he is choking himself. It's terrible, and I have tried training but it never worked out for me. Does anyone use a no pull harness or something like that, that works? |
My babies are always on leashes. Once they are outside they go crazy. There is no way they would listen to us. Gracie got away and ran out into the highway once. Never again will we chance that. |

How did you teach him to sit OUTSIDE the bathroom for you? Susanah has to come in with me and sit on my lap, then has a fit when I put her down to pull my pants up so I end up holding her and trying to do it one handed. No, she's not spoiled. Not at all. Really. :embarasse I think I have to agree that even if I knew Susanah would stay right on my heels, I'd still leash her if we were outside the house. You just never know what may happen and I'd rather be safe than sorry. |
My abbie stays so close to me,my sister call her my little shadow whos spoiled rotten, But that why i got her for she is mamas baby girl. |
I doubt that we will ever be able to have ours off leash. The minute she finds freedom, she is like a shot out of a cannon!! Gone!! She is on a mission and nothing will stop her. She is the same on leash. She pulls to the point of choking. We use a harness if we are on vacation or taking a walk. |
I will never be able to let mine off the leash. Once they see the golden across the street they are gone for a play date without permission. For their safety and my heart I will walk them on a leash!! |
Mine would be on the opposite coast by the time I caught them! |
Hey girl, I feel your pain. Trixie and Snoot will just pull and pull. Oh and I just know Paisley is going to follow their ways. However, Pia won't leave my side for anything. I can't tell you how many times I've almost stepped on her because she's always under my feet wanting picked up. I guess we need training too. :p |
I always have Lillybelle on a leash- #1-she may not stay with me...she's not trained that well. #2-once a big dog snatched her right up into his mouth and I jerked her right out-----luckily she was on a leash!!!!!!---it happened so quick if she wasnt on a leash he would have run off with her! #3-another time we were walking, she saw a bunny and took off after it---once again lucky she was on a leash!!! To many unexpected things out there for me. |
We have a leash law in the County I live in and can not go out without Gin-Gin on a leash...Which I think is a very good thing...but I really do wish that if I accidentilly open my front door and didn't know she was beside me and decided to bolt, that I could get her to "come" to me...She is way to stuborn to listen to most anything I say...unless SHE wants to do it... Anyway, I have seen some small dogs follow their mommies and I do think it is so cute. the way they look up at their mommies--like "where are we going now, mommy" |
Lola and Avi would run and do their own thing, regardless of what I asked. Rory and Savi actually stick close, but I haven't gathered the daring to see if they'd follow me on a walk sans a leash. I don't think they'd run off though . . . I would say training is a very excellent way to teach your dog to obey and understand. Also, personality plays into whether your dog will do as commanded or simply misbehave. (Lord knows they get away with whatever they want) Lola would probably fail miserably at obedience classes, come to think of it. |
Maya my Pom stays right by me but I have her on a leash when we walk. On our property she stays right by me and moves so slow I could catch her. My Yorkies would be so far gone without their leashes and I'd never catch them. |
Jake follows me everywhere, and he's good on his leash. As good as he is with it, I still wouldn't let him walk free without it if we were out in public. You never know when they might see something and take off after it. To me, it's just better safe than sorry. |
